If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Place orders at multiple dealerships?

Just wondering if anyone has placed orders at more than one dealership considering a contrasting variation in wait times between dealerships where some say 2-3 months and others 6-8 months. Also, With the deposit being refundable why not place orders with a couple of dealers and pick the one that arrives sooner? And get a refund from the other.

Thoughts?

Nothing says you can't. Not how I'd prefer to do business but thats me. Even now after my dealer tried screwing us out of KIA financing and $500 rebate by changing my signed sold sales agreement after I had stuck with them for 8 months, clowns. But I digress, I still wouldn't put in multiple deposits, especially to a "good & honest" dealership.
Make sure you get it in writing that all these deposits will be refundable and an agreed on sales price (e.g. msrp no dealer markup) so that you know one of these deposits will provide you with exactly what you want. GL

Sorry to hear about your experience.

I 100% agree about being honest to a good dealership and I have openly stated in writing that I have an existing order in and I would end up picking which ever one comes first and if they were okay with that (which means they will have to refund my deposit). They appreciated the honesty and were confident that they would get the car sooner based on their current wait list and still want me to place the order. They will fully refund the deposit if I decide to back away, which is mentioned in writing and also they are charging MSRP plus doc and title fees of $204. No mark ups or add ons, with free shipping.

Sounds like a deal to me then. Thats a super low doc fee 👍 Think ours was like $650.

Yup, that’s the most tempting factor. Especially with the SUV being 50k already (because I’m wanting one with all bells and whistle), let’s save as much as we can on any additional fees.

Hard to believe nearly two full years out on the market and msrp is still a deal on these things. Nuts

I know! on the flip side I’m hoping this would help retain good resale value 3 years down the line. I’m switching from a highlander so it would be amazing to retain value same as a Toyota.

Maybe another way to get one sooner is to call a dealership that already has an allocation/VIN in production and on its way to the dealer. Versus waiting for multiple dealers to get you on a waiting list and into KFOS.

That people do this make a case for non-refundable deposits.

Yes, thats exactly how I ended up in this situation because there would always be something missing in the one they have coming from what I'm looking for.

May be that would be a good thing, especially considering we have seen multiple cases where they have taken a deposit but sold the car to someone else who offered higher price. There is always two sides to the coin, if the dealer is keeping their options open then so does the customer but if that's not acceptable then both need to enter into a binding contract.

I can see it both ways, I wasn't sure if anyone has done this and had a luck so thought its better to socialize and ask.

Not sure what your issue is. I have two Tellurides on order with two dealerships. They are happy to take my order as it looks good on them to Kia. The more orders the higher the volume. They both know that I ordered with another dealer and are fine with it as they sell them as soon as they get them--often over MSRP and it is hard to get their hands on a fully loaded one. Oh, and I gave them an interest free loan of $1000 that can help them with their floor plan.

If anything, I'm an ideal customer even if I don't end up buying from them.
