If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Prestige Package - worth it ?

Air Grabber induction and the AM radio with 8 track stereo tape player. Only someone from my era will appreciate this.
I must be from your era! My first "new" car, a 1974 Mercury Capri, also had an 8-Track player. I still remember the first tape I bought to listen to in my new car - it was The Moodie Blues - a compilation of their Greatest Hits up to that point.

I don't find Nappa Seats more comfortable than the non nappa leather seats or even the pleather seats for that matter. The seats are comfortable but they are not that comfy as compared to pther vehicles Ive opened. As far as heads up displays go. If you never had one you'll never miss it and at no point in your life will you wish you had it unless you had it before. But at some point you might NEED that other seat. Also in Canada only the P comes with LED tails they look so premium vs the non led. They light up and function completely differently.

I've had HUD in my Corvette for years - Once the novelty wore off, I could take it or leave it.

The feature I absolutely need to have is Top View Camera which a regular SX will have. With this said I still bought a SX with Prestige because I do not want to have the "I should have" feelings know there are other Tellys out there which have more features than mine.....the $2000 extra over the life of my 4 year car loan is nothing, seriously.

BTW just received another compliment about my Telly from a guy at an inspection station while getting my annual inspection sticker. This Telly is almost a 2 year old model and still getting all the attention is simply amazing. May be the Prestige package plays a factor ;)

You keep comparing your Corvette HUD to the Kia....curious to know what details/info your Corvette had compared to the KT now.
I get that you're generalizing the capabilities... but I'm gonna roll the dice that the HUD on the KT is a lot better (more info) than your Corvette.

Yep, If you know what an 8 track is you can relate! Great muscle cars and great times! I have a rack of those 8 track, mostly for nostalgia but they might still play in the Roadrunner. They tended to get wound up in the pinch rollers.

I know the Kia has more info, no doubt. My Vet has just the basic stuff: Speed, Fuel level, Oil Temp, Coolant temp, Odometer, Trip milage, etc. I've seen what the Telly has and it's just a personal choice that it's not something I care about. As long as all the necessary info is available in the instrument cluster, then I'm fine. HUD is a fun thing but personally not something I care about one way or the other.

I really wish they would allow those of us in Canada to have the the SX with the nightsky package. Rather than having to upgrade to the SXL in order to have the nightsky package. Cos for me I can easily do without the HUD and the second row seats are gonna be with car seats for at least the next 5yrs. So don't really need it.

IF that's your definition of fun, then I guess so.

But I don't think manufacturers market this capability as a fun feature or a novelty. Line of Sight when it comes with instrumentation is always good option to have.

Me personally...I like the fact that I dont have to look down as often or to the side (for navigation) when everything is right in front of me (line of sight when driving).

If it's something that someone wants then by all means they should get it. I'm not knocking it - it' just not something I care that much about personally.

Does one ever need a fully loaded, top trim model car to drive?
Of course not. A car would serve its purpose with the base trim for any vehicle.

Why get prestige package?
Because it is the best the Kia has to offer for its flagship SUV. If you can afford it and don’t need the middle seat for the second row why not indulge?

Is the prestige package package in general overpriced for the added feature you are getting?
Not really. IMO.

Why can’t KIA make the individual features of the SX and Prestige package available a la carte on lower trims?
Probably to keep their manufacturing process more simplified and streamlined. Also really sets the top trim apart from the lower trims. Pricing options is simple, a Prestige package or not. Versus luxury brands with all their complex package options that eventually double the car’s price. (ie cold weather pkg, tech pkg, convenience pkg, etc)

I didn't get Prestige (called Limited in Canada) because the options didn't appeal to me and because I wanted a bench seat (which you can get on an SX here). But this all makes total sense to me. The fourth point is so true. The few times I check out another car brand and have to keep adding individual options to get what's on the SX, the $ just keep adding and adding until the final number is just nuts.

Way back (+ 10 years ago) you could a la carte options which is great for the consumer but it’s a hassle for the manufacturer. Then they started grouping popular options into packages and it all went downhill from there

I don't know if you have ever purchased a BMW or Porsche, but its mind boggling all the a la carte options they have. I actually like that the KIA only has a few options in the SX, the Prestige being one of them. I usually buy preowned and I purchased a BMW 550 sedan that had everything I could imagine, even soft closing doors. It wasn't until I got further into it that I realized whoever ordering this car got everything but just kept the standard crappy audio system. Since I like music, it was a bummer. When I look at buying preowned cars like BMW's I need to see the window sticker or the factory build sheet before any decisions. The Kia was easy!

I haven’t purchased a BMW or Porsche but I can see how these luxury brands would allow consumers to do that with options.

I didn't get Prestige for two reasons. First, the additional options were not that important to me now that the kids are out of the house, and also I really wanted the Butterscotch leather - the only color leather, as far as I know, than comes with a non-Prestige black headliner, which I really like.

The did say that the suede ish headliner for the Prestige cuts down on cabin noise which I could see it doing. I've got no comparison but the noise isolation in the Telly is great!
