• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Rear AC question

We just ordered a model S today. There is a 12 week wait where I live. I am confused about the climate control options. It seemed like the SX was the only one that had dual climate control but is there actually a way to control climate on other models? I'd like to be able to control driver, passenger, rear separately. Is this possible on the model S?

NO can control Front and rear only

Have a parallel issue with the EX, where the rear zone does not come on when I push 'Sync'. Rather I have to push 'rear' on the console, then go to the screen and adjust which I normally just put on Auto and Lock screen. Then once the car is turned off and back on, I have to do that all over again every time. Dealer said he has heard of the problem and asked me to bring it in, so I have a Friday appointment.
Mine acts the same way and will "sync" after its on but will be off again after I leave and start the car. I just assumed this is how its supposed to work.

Did you get a resolution on this? We are baffled that you have to turn the rear air on every time you get in. We have two kids and need it on constantly. Very annoying to have to manually turn the air on each time.

They really should have tied the rear occupant alert sensor into the hvac to turn on the rear. Disappointing. I have to hit 'confirm', rear, then hit auto to turn it on every morning and afternoon for the baby in the back. 3 button presses before moving the car just to get the AC on.

We have the SX Limited (Canadian version of the prestige I understand) and have the same issues. VERY annoying I have to turn the rear air on every time I turn the car on for my kids. It’s also- more than just one click to turn it on, bc it doesn’t even remember my last settings so I have to click back to the desired temp/auto or power level each time too.

In addition to not remembering my rear air settings, the car also turns the driver’s vented seats on every time I restart the car, and always turns the auto start/stop button back on. So basically I have 6 or so clicks I have to make each time I turn the car back on. ARG. Haven’t had a chance to look through the drivers manual to see if there is something to resolve these issues... Would love to know if anyone else is having the same issues or has figured a way to resolve them.

You can go into settings and set when you want the cool seats to come on

This has got to be a software glitch. It is hot in Texas so I like the rear air on sometimes even if it is just me, it seems to cool the car quicker. The rear air setting is always just how I left it.
I have an SXP. Not sure if this quirk is model specific.

Not mine. I have an EX and my rear ac always defaults to “off”. I can turn it on and select “sync”; if I shut the car off and restart within about 30 minutes or so it will still be on, but if the car is shut off longer than that the rear ac will invariably be off when I restart. I’ve brought it up with my dealer before and asked about it again last week. He said they were “well aware” of the problem (implying numerous complaints) but said they hadn’t received any information from Kia yet about the situation.

I have the SX when use the Sync on and turn the rear on auto the rear air remains on even after turning off the engine and restart a few hrs later. But leaving the ignition off for over 4hrs+ then start the vehicle the rear air remains off. The Sync will not work if you set the rear air at different temp. or fan speed then the front. In sync the driver, passenger and rear remains same temperature and fan speed remains in sync. therefore setting a different temperatures for either of the 3 will not keep rear air setting on at start up.

Thanks for the info- I’m going to look into it!

I hope they figure it out.

I’ll bring it up to my dealer too, hopefully the more of us that comment on it, the more pressure they’ll have to look into fixing it.

Five months after the first report of this problem and still no resolve?!?

Same issue On my Telluride. It's **Super** annoying but I'll resist going into detail about it because most of you are already experiencing this. I was coming here today to try and find a solution. My car has been to the dealer twice now to try and resolve this issue. -Nope. All I'm told is "it's functioning as it's supposed to" which leaves me explaining (to the guy at the counter) in great detail how crazy it is and has him completely agreeing with me after sitting in the car and trying to wrap his head around it. If anyone gets a solid fix for this please let me know. I can at least tell you it's been reported twice to my dealer for what that's worth.

I wanted to chime again to tell you the specifics of the issue. I have an LX. My car does not have a sync feature BTW.

  • When I start the car the rear fan is on and it's always on one particular temperature setting and one particular fan speed.
  • I have to manually turn it off every time*.
  • *If the car is sitting for only about 5 minutes it stays OFF if I've turned it off for the previous drive. It's only when the car has sat for 20(ish) + minutes that the computer resets to "it's own default" of being on.
  • It makes no difference if someone has been in the back.
  • It makes no difference if I have used the rear climate control OR if I've turned it off manually for the previous drive. It resets to it's own default of being ON.

It is simply always on upon starting the car and always at the same fan speed and temperature. I've tried EVERYTHING. I agree it's a software glitch and it is something that MUST be addressed and fixed by KIA.

One annoying part of it is that if it happened to be 100 degrees outside then the "default" constant setting would be blowing warmer air than my AC choice for the front. If it were 20 degrees outside it would be blowing colder air than my heat in the front.
