• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... New member to the forum here, but have been browsing a while. Have done plenty of research as well, so figured I'd just post in here.

We are in the market for a new vehicle. I've researched and researched the Telluride, and it sounds like you get a lot of vehicle for the money!

I have browsed these forums and came across a few things on Facebook, how many of you out there are having substantial issues? I know buying a first year vehicle there are always issues that can arise, but those that went from a Sorento to the Telluride, do you feel they are of the same quality and build? I'm not worried about it being in the shop occasionally for recalls. Our current vehicle, 2012 GMC Terrain was in the shop a LOT for oil consumption analysis.

Figured it would be best to ask before we pursue. We live in the Midwest, where the roads are cleared and we live in town, have a crew cab pickup and only a family of 4, so no intentions of this going off road, so we are looking at purchasing an SX FWD. From a quick search on here the AWD have a vibration/pulsation between 68-72 MPH?

Who is the gentleman on here that has over 36K on his (last I had checked) I'd love to see who that is and crunch their brain!

All in all, it looks like a great vehicle, and I think the one for us! Just want to hear it from most of you that have purchased them. We are intending to buy from local dealer that is 40 miles from home, incase we have any issues they will at least be close.

Thanks!

For the data point:

I have an SX AWD for about 3.5 months now. It has been into the dealer once to deal with (2-3) defects.
1 - The driver seat cover was not manufactured correctly and was not staying clipped onto the seat. Replacement has been fine.
2 - The passenger side door upper aluminum trim was 'bent' so that it did not line up with the rear door trim. Replaced by dealer after parts ordered.
3 - Paint chip potentially from vehicle shipping on a pillar was repaired pretty flawlessly. Can't even find the spot anymore.

All issues were resolved easily. No other complaints/concerns with the car.

I have an EX AWD that I custom ordered in late March and was delivered in early April (23 days order-to-delivery). Since then, I have logged 5,000 miles. In that time, the only problem I have experienced was with the well-documented Bluetooth connectivity issue that was resolved with a software update. I do not have the vibration that a few others have experienced. The Telluride is my third Kia — previously I have had two Sorentos. One was made in Korea, the other at KMMG in West Point. Both were fine vehicles that gave me over 150,000 miles of trouble-free service. The Korean one met a bad end in a severe collision with a utility pole after I lost control on ice in a freak sudden hailstorm, but it saved out lives in the process. That fact prompted me to immediately replace it with another, which I still own and now has 175,000 miles on it. In those over 325,000 miles, I had to replace front wheel bearings on the first, and an alternator on the second. That’s it! My expectation is that I will experience similar results from the Telluride. Just one more thing. Of the three, the build quality and attention to detail on the Telluride is unquestionably the best of the three. In fact, it is the best of the many vehicles I have owned in 50 years of driving.

These are the things I like to hear. As far as the Bluetooth connectivity issue, my work vehicle is a 2018 Chevy Silverado that is Apple Car Play Accesible, it works about half the time, and will just stop working all together. Trailer brake quit working while hauling an amount I will not list as it was over weight... Radio quit one night on way home from vacation, for no apparent reason what so ever, finally worked again the next morning, was tough to stay awake the rest of the evening though! Altogether it's been a good truck, just small, inconvenient issues.

As far as complaints group, have found a group on FB, but majority of complaints coming from one person. I'm assuming they got a lemon, or after further reading, I think some of it, is just operator error, or being blown out of proportion. That's just me reading between the lines.

I think a lot of it is the electronics on these are so integrated into everything. I work in the Ag Industry, and I see it with the new equipment coming out, just what we have to deal with from this point forward.

Safety is a big concern, and this vehicle seems to fit that bill, not to mention proven drivetrain and engine, I can live with a couple of malfunctions here and there..

Appreciate all the input so far!

I've had my stinger gt2 over a year and 21,500+ miles with minimal issues. Nothing big, serious, or expensive.

At about 5,000 miles on my SXP Telluride I've had no issues. So, zero, zilch

I also have an AWD EX and haven’t experienced the vibration issues. Based on the last few replies in that thread, it seems like they’re getting closer to determining the root cause, so hopefully it’s resolved soon for those experiencing it.

I would definitely take anything you see in the Facebook groups with a grain of salt. It’s a small group in comparison to the total amount of vehicles sold and issues tend to be exacerbated because of that. The two issues that are discussed most frequently relate to windshield chipping/cracking and paint quality, neither of which is unique to the Telluride.

I’m only 2500 miles in since May but haven’t had a single issue with mine so far. The safety features and technology continue to impress me daily and it sure doesn’t hurt that it just looks cool😎 honestly, this is the best vehicle I’ve ever owned, and it’s not even close!

I purchased an SX model in April, have driven 6500 miles and have not experienced any issues with the vehicle. It has been a joy to drive since day one and I still get that "new car" feeling everytime I get behind the wheel.

I have been, I’ve read through them, and yes, a small group. I have tried to search these forums as I feel the information is a little more accurate. More positive reviews than anything!

We have our current vehicle “sold” just waiting for money in hand then we are putting a deposit down on a Moss/Gray FWD SX!

I agree. I have read through quite a bit of those posts and have come to that conclusion. I have tried to research on here as much as anything.

We have our current vehicle sold, and once we receive the money we will be getting a Dark Moss/Gray SX FWD. We couldn't be more excited. They sure are a sharp car.

We traded a 2018 Sorento EX for the Telluride FWD S model. Had no issues with the Sorento (18K miles) and no issues with the new buggie (4.5 K miles) so far. Have no vibrations at any speed and averaging 28.4 MPG (mostly highway miles). Very happy with fit and finish of both vehicles. Only reason we traded was to gain some additional storage and better access to the 3rd row seats. Biggest surprise has been the fuel mileage. I use a mileage app to track driving statistics and so far the Telluride is beating the Sorento by a whopping 4.6 MPG. Very happy with the Telluride so far. Nice quiet and comfortable ride. No regrets!!

SX AWD. 3800 miles over 11 weeks. I had an issue with gas gauge that was not moving fast enough to the full position after putting gas in. That issue happened only once as it was resolved itself.
Other than that, I've had zero issues. I love it.

SX FWD here, modest 1000 miles. I have a huge problem that is affecting my marriage. Everytime I drive my telly people keep stopping and talking to me about it, " Is that a KIA?, "wow, nice car", and "Are you married because I need a man like you in my life". This vehicle is ruining my life. Aside from that, I have not had any issues with performance, technology, or craftsmanship. My previous car was a BMW, and I will not be going back.

I think you need to stop worrying. All vehicles have defects. You just got to roll with the punches and let the dealer figure it out. Relax and but your car, everything else will work out.

I know! It is irritating isn't it. Just yesterday I was accosted in the parking lot of McDonald's by two strange women wanting to ooh and aah over my car. It is the only issue I have had in my 5000 miles. I did have a seatbelt assembly that had to be replaced but I consider that a minor initial build issue and not a vehicle flaw. "Telluride can cause more social interaction' should be a prominently displayed warning!

I have had several similar experiences— in the grocery store parking lot, at the hair salon where my sister-in-law works, even at the Kia dealer!

Lol! While I haven’t had too many people actually stop me... I do get a kick out of watching people stop and back up in parking lots to check it out. I even had a guy go about 85 on the interstate to get past me and look at the front. I just smiled and waved. It’s definitely a head turner.
To answer the post, I have 2,500 miles on mine with zero issues so far.

I'll admit to walking around a white Telluride in a parking lot yesterday for a couple of minutes, only the second I've seen in the wild that I could look at up close.

Unfortunately it had a nasty crack across the windshield, a line with kind of an S shape at one end. Immediately thought of the previous reports of cracked windshields on Tellurides.

Is the solution simply getting a replacement windshield, like from Safelite? I've had insurance cover that once on a Toyota. Or are the cracks also happening on replacements due to something other than the windshield itself?

Bought the car late March 2019. We are nearing 10k miles. We are averaging 2k miles per month. Gas mileage range from 21 combined (sport mode) all the way up to 31mpg combined on long 600-1k+ mile trips. Gas mileage is pretty amazing for a big peppy V6. Zero defects, just a lot of heads turning and asking for the make and model of the car.

Big shortage of telluride in SD. We stopped by the dealer and they luckily had 1. Test drove and fell in love. You will too. Trust me. You won't regret it 👍

This is all great to hear. We have definitely made up our mind! Insurance has been slow to get check out to the party purchasing our vehicle. We hope to have it today, and the Telluride we are after is due in Friday!

We actually test drove a Palisade, couldn’t get our hands on a Telluride to test! One of the employees had an SX at the local Kia dealer we were at least able to go sit in and walk around. We can’t hardly wait.

Thanks for all the responses!
