Seriously Disappointed!!! Oil CONSUMPTION

I'm at 67,000 miles on my 2020 SX. I'm getting oil consumption as well, and I'm monitoring it monthly. We also have a 2.4 Sportage, that has oil consumption, and it went through the consumption test about 3 months ago, but Kia told me that 1 Qt of Oil in 1,000 miles is normal. On that car, if my math is correct, that's 1ml/oil/mile. The Telly has had the intake cleaning done when it was in last, and that's when it seems the oil consumption started/got worse. From what I've read, the problem is that the rings on the pistons are "chattering" up the bore when running, causing blow by. Eventually, even after you are adding oil to keep it topped up, the oil will eventually clog the Catalytic Converter. Some people are taking Berryman B12 cleaner and pouring through the spark plug holes, letting sit for hours, sucking it out (if it hasn't seeped through, changing the oil and freeing the rings). Really can't do that on the Telly because of the intake manifold over the plugs. However, my next oil change is 500 miles, and I'm going to try the Liqui-Moly Engine Oil Flush with a double oil change, to see if it does anything to slow/free up the rings. Worth a shot, but who knows. It's ashame as overall the car is great, but these Kia engine issues is just mind boggling!

You must continue to monitor and go to Kia each time the dipstick is dry... I also emailed corporate abd called them to complain. After all the back and forth visits they are replacing my 82k mile bs engine. They will however warranty it for 1 year 12k miles....
They have my Tellurude now since January 19th. It's now Feb 13th... Still waiting. They gave me a loaner for now

Conclusion: They replaced and gave me a Refurbished Long Block Engine. After all the grief I went through first. Kia guidelines won't replace the engine unless it is "consuming more than 1 quart per 1000 miles" ...It finally failed the oil consumption test and engine was replaced. So far so good. Engine doesn't sound great anymore but it will last...
My advice to all Telluride owners: Sell it!
Get rid of it!!..Say goodbye to KIA forever!

I haven't had any problems yet. 23,000 mi I think. But I change my oil like every 3,000 mi because it's easy and now I'm kind of paranoid about this...

Keep checking that dipstick. Once you hit 60k plus watch out !!

My guess is the new engineering. Low tension piston rings. If I was keeping my car, I would maybe try going to 40 weight. My catch can traps a lot of oil. Too much in my opinion.

Our green 2020 FWD S had 60k miles when my wife told me that it was sounding "junky!" I took the Kia out for a short drive and not only did it sound "junky," it was loosing power and missing. All symptoms were worse on acceleration and making turns.

The first thing I did was check the oil as the "junky" sound was valve chatter. There was no oil at all on the dip stick. I ran over to the parts store and bought 2 quarts of oil, and put them in the engine and rechecked the oil level... Still nothing. I went back and bought 3 more quarts. It took a total of 4.5 quarts to register oil on the dip stick. We called the dealership Rusty Wallace Kia in Louisville, TN. They had us come in and started an oil consumption test. There were no lights or warnings to let you know that the engine oil was critically low

The oil consumption test consist of the service department making sure the engine is full of oil, they put seals on the dip stick and oil fill cap. We drive the car for 1000 miles and they recheck the oil level to see how much oil was consumed. Our Telluride used 0.8 quarts the 1st 1k, 0.9 quarts the 2nd check, and 1.2 quarts on the 3rd check.

On the third check Kia kept our car for a couple weeks, changed the spark plugs and the PCV tube. The service department resealed the engine and after rechecking the oil , they found that it only used 0.7 quarts of oil during this 1000 miles. Kia them said that this is normal and within normal consumption and closed the case.

This engine is not leaking oil. It is consuming the oil, which could also be said that it is burning the oil. All that burnt oil is in the engine as carbon deposits and in the catalytic converters which can cause them to clog, not to mention the damage that was done to the engine when driving it when there was nearly no one l at all in the engine. I now have to purchase and add oil in between oil changes as not to further damage the engine which only adds to the cost of ownership. I called Kia consumer affairs and they said that they can not do anything about our situation either.

What a real disappointment! I will sure let everyone I know and anyone else who is interested in a Kia to run far away. So much for the JD Powers rankings. Not only is the Telluride a poor choice, the customer service is lousy too.

Same thing happening to mine currently! I have a 2020 Telluride and I have failed all 3 consumption tests. I'm waiting on instructions from them. It has my nerves tore up.

Same problem with a 2022 Kia telluride.

Same with my 2020. Dealer told me I needed a new engine. 10k. Warranty was denied bc I could only show 5 of 7 oil change receipts.

I am just hitting 60,000 miles with my car and I didn't have the opportunity to take the car in when it first ran completely out of oil - no lights, no warnings, no signs other than the skipping and driving junky. I have no other way to describe it. I filled it up and when I took it in to Kia they treated it as I've had an oil change some place else and ignored the problem. I complained about it cutting off and took it back in the shop a month later I only had a quart of oil in the car. so now they are doing the oil consumption test. Just went in for the 1K check and I was quarter of oil short. The guy told me that they have to take the engine completely a part to find the piece that is flawed, contact Kia, and have that 'one piece' replaced. Not the entire engine. and that Kia may not pay for the rental that I'll need while they are taking my engine a part
