• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Simple Radar Detector Hard Wiring Instructions to Rear View Mirror for SX

Hello fellow Telluride owners!

One of the first additions I do to all of my vehicles is a hard wired radar detector. Since I did not see any instructions for this here, I decided to take step by step photos to help everyone else through the process. It's very simple and only takes a few minutes and keeps you from having to run a long power cord from the windshield to the outlet or down the A-pillar and into the fuse panel.

As a side note my Telluride is an SX with the Homelink equipped rear view mirror. So I cannot comment whether the mirror wiring will be exactly the same for LX, EX, or S models.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Items needed:
1) Radar Detector
2) Mirror power cable compatible with your brand of radar detector:

Example: Amazon.com: Xislet 15" Radar Detector Hardwire Power Cord Mirror Wire Plug Tap Compatible with Escort Valentine One Uniden Beltronics with Inline Fuse Mount RJ11 - Set of 3: Car Electronics
Example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I1XF4XU/
3) Zip tie
4) Optional: rear view mirror radar detector mount compatible with your detector

The Dam S only has the Fview camera harness. Pretty sure could still tap in but not to sure which wires I should tap. Gonna go buy a tester today. I just moved to Texas so had to get tools again. If I cant get it to work I will just hardwire tap to my dashcam already installed. SMH

I wanted to post a follow-up on this post. For 2022 owners, the mirror plug that the two pins go into are to small to allow the pins for the power cable to go in because the pins are to big. So, back to hardwiring the old Escort. 😫

I got a 2022 SXP Nightfall and when running my R4 I am now getting 24.138Ghz alerts....I think it is from my BSM I need to pull some fuses to test. When I turn on with the switch nothing changes. Very odd I drove for two days with zero alerts. I know it is my Telly since I can move my R4 to my Cadillac and it is quiet. I am hoping Uniden gets an update this winter to do better K filter or one with more BSM updates. Now looking at mounts and hardwire.

I just bought a '23 SX-Prestige and want to wire up my Uniden R3 with the push in pin power cord to the 12v supply to the digital mirror. Has anyone successfully done this, or is the connector too big for the small connector, as another poster mentioned with their '22?

Has anyone wired up a '23 with the push in pin power cord? As mentioned in post #42 above, the '23s can't use the push in pins due to the smaller connector. See the pictures below from my Digital mirror wiring.

Any ideas on how to connect using the mirror power, or are we stuck with direct wiring?

Thanks in advance....

Great post! I learned a lot. I do have a need for a USB-C end. Is a “Mirror Wire Plug Tap to usb-c” possible and available?

I have and it worked great. It was a little hard to push the pins into the socket but you can if you use the smallest pins. Below is the RJ11 power cord I bought. It comes with 3 different sizes. I used the smallest one.

Berryboy808,
With your 2023 model does your mirror look like mine? If it does, I can get the radar mount to work but have no adjustibilty with the mirror due to the short stem and small area behind the mirror. Just curious if your mirror design was similar and if you had a better method for this setup to work. Thanks

Sorry so late my man. I been super busy. Here is a pick of mine:

Stem is for sure a lot longer than yours.

No apologies needed as I completely understand. I appreciate you sharing your side view which now makes sense why your setup looks so good and aligned due to the longer stem. Thank you again very much!

You just saved me a lot of time. Glad I didn't have to bust out the volt meter. Thank you.
