• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I love my Telluride SXP AWD Nightfall. It is an amazing SUV. Kia really hit it out of the park with the Telluride. I like it better than all of the high end luxury SUVs that my family members own. However, these markups on the SXs, and especially the SXP Nightfalls are ridiculous. I knew about about $5K-10K markups around the country being standard, but the people in California are really getting screwed. I guess the law of supply and demand always wins out. It will be interesting to see how much Kia raises the price on the 2022, or will they let their dealers keep making insane profits on these Tellys.

Is the norm in Cali. I saw a markup of 16k at one of the SoCal dealers.

Yup.

Wait until you see the latest prices for a gallon of gasoline in California.

Insanity.

I’m incredibly happy to be moving on to FL and SD soon enough 😂

Are people actually buying them at these prices though?

This overpaying for everything phenomenon is pervasive in California.

It’s like being in a cult and repeatedly chanting the same tired chants over and over as a form of self-hypnosis:

Some common examples:

“I’m willing to pay for quality of life.”

“Westside for life!”

“I’m here for three reasons, man: the weather, the weather and the weather.”

“Yo be real, it’s just money. Would you want to live anywhere else?”

I contacted close to 10 dealerships in the Philadelphia (PA) region. Two were selling at MSRP, while the others were selling for $1500, $3k and $5k over. Most were in the plus $3-5k.
I’ve bought a few new vehicles in my life and never paid MSRP. That said, I was pretty happily to be paying MSRP this time.

100% with you lol

The dealership out here in Gilbert, AZ told me that someone paid a 15k mark up on a SX NFE. Said they don't last more than a day on the lot and if you don't buy it then someone else will later that day.

These times are definitely not normal, but it too shall pass.

Once supply catches up with demand, prices will normalize, and reality will hit those folks who paid over MSRP.

Absolutely insane to pay that. Buy it elsewhere. Take a nice long drive home in your new car.
That's what I did. From CO to LA.

The way things are going, that’s going to be a while... at least a few years.

If anything, things have gotten worse. I noticed a few dealers here in NJ that were charging MSRP initially now have huge markups. Hope the dealer I purchased from doesn’t follow suit.

Sadly it's not just CA or NY or any large metro.

$18k Adjusted Market Value? Shame on them. I would never buy a vehicle from that dealership.

Cali people just getting what they deserve. (y)
Not nice. Why do I deserve this just based on where I was born? Wish we supported each other more, especially in these times. Hope you and everyone else stays safe an gets their Telluride at MSRP or lower.

I was ready to buy months ago, went to local dealer, saw markup, then found this forum and a dealer that sells at MSRP. Worth the wait.

Same

I think the poster is mostly kidding. What’s really not nice is the dealer trying to rip you off. It’s not really that hard to find MSRP. All it takes is perseverance and creative thinking.

I get that dealers are “cashing in” while they can. But the price gouging by some is excessive. A dealership selling at MSRP is already netting $2-3k per vehicle. And anyone with a trade after receiving delivery either accepts s low-ball offer, or drives home 2 vehicles.
