Telluride LX Headlight Replacement

Based on previous suggestions on this forum, we installed the Sealight S3 Series 9005 bulbs. Amazon link:

These bulbs are plug and play, 6500K color temperature, and bright. No projector adjustments needed. These bulbs have a good beam pattern but not the best.

A better option is the Auxito 9005 Led bulbs. Amazon link:

These bulbs are plug and play, 6500k color temperature, brighter than the Sealight S3 bulbs, and have a better beam pattern.

Thank you! That is where I am struggling. I guess I just assumed that the $80 pair is better than the $50 pair. However, if the the $50 pair works just as well, why pay the extra $30? Based on the link you attached, it appears that the "cheaper" bulbs worked better?

Today I installed the new LED bulbs in my S. Unfortunately, today it was very foggy in Central PA and I was unable to get "before and after" photos. I installed the bulbs in a friends garage, and although I haven't had the opportunity to drive the car at night, it is quite evident that these "bright white" LED bulbs will perform much better than the "warm yellow" factory, halogen bulbs. (Based on the appearance of the brightness shining on the wall before and after). As stated in other posts, the install is rather easy. After removing the dust cap, the bulb was a bit tight to remove, but after some persuasion it came out. It helped to look at the placement of the slotted pieces on the bulb when you you remove the factory bulb to simplify your hand placement when putting in the new bulb. (The area is a bit tight and hard to see when you are putting the new bulb into the slots). You must carefully place the remaining wire and driver plastic piece into the bulb housing before reinstalling the dust cover. It does fit! The other posts are correct. Relatively easy and plug and play! I will post again after I have driven the car at night.

I havent driven the vehicle at night yet, but based on the comments on this forum, many people were happy with the bulbs performance. (The reason I made the purchase). Anything has to be better than the factory bulbs. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge can respond. However, standing in front of the car, the bulbs appear to be super bright.

In the Telluride application, dark spots are created by the thickness of the board the chips are installed on. Our original bulb replacement used the Sealight bulbs which had a thicker board and had the chips somewhat recessed from the board surface. The less expensive Auxito bulbs have a thinner board and a better beam spread.

That makes sense. I went with the Twelvolts with the pie shaped tip because I was worried about dark spots, but the width of the board along with the placement of the chip would definitely make a difference.

I tried unsuccessfully to remove the drivers side bulb on my EX today. After getting the plug off, I could not get the bulb to move more than a fraction of an inch. I gave up after putting as much force as I dared . I just could not exert enough force to push and turn the bulb, very limited space. Then the problem was to get the wire plug into place and get it "snapped" onto the base of the bulb. I needed a paint can opening tool to pull the plug back into position. All in all, a frustrating experience, I really didn't want to break the base of the bulb off.

I agree it’s pretty tricky. I tried to take a video but the space was too tight. It required about a 1/8 turn and then slide directly back. There is only one way that they go in a lock and when your figure it out the second time is easier.

I had to really work one bulb on my Telluride to get it to come out. It took me maybe an hour of off and on turn from different positions to get the bulb to loosen. It's held into the metal housing so as long as you're turning the right direction, feel free to use as much force as possible (assuming you're using your hands and not a tool to twist).

I totally understand. I struggled too. I took the Telly to my friend who is a mechanic and getting the bulb out was initially a challenge.

Early this morning (no traffic!), I had an opportunity to check out the bulbs that I installed yesterday. WOW! What a difference! There is no comparison to these bulbs and the factory Halogens. I am attaching a low bean, high beam and the front of the Telly. If you look at the high beam photo (#2), you can see the spray of light on the tree limbs and the brightness in the distance. Thanks Scooterskater for the recommendation.
