Telluride sx lift and larger tires

Hey, folks. Question for folks that have 2" Truxxx lift kit and/or outfitted their Telluride with 17's.

I purchased the kit, took it to a local 4x4 shop, and they were a bit concerned over the lack of caster/camber adjustment. If I understand correctly, there is a risk that when they do the alignment, the won't have all the typical adjustments available to them to bring it back into proper alignment. They weren't saying it would definitely be an issue; just that it could be an issue.

First, has anyone had any issues getting proper alignment after getting the Truxxx 2" lift installed?

Second, I'm looking to replace the 20's that came with the Telluride with Black Rhino Arches (17x8) and Toyo AT3's (265/65/R17) based on other comments on this thread, inclusive of my need for a capable snow tire in the winter. The shop also indicated I should be cautious of brakes not fitting properly if I'm dropping to 17's, and potentially even resulting in overheating or other issues. If this is a valid concern, I'd prefer to just go with 18's if there's any concerns that 17's will be unsafe in any way... but candidly I just don't know enough to understand or assess the tradeoffs.

My goal is to just get a bit better approach/departure angles, and also ditch the 20's that came with the car with something that is more reasonable for driving on USFS roads when we go camping and hiking.

As always, any thoughts/suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

The 17" arches fit over the brakes with no issues - other 17" wheels might not, depends on the wheel. Did you tell them you've researched this and there are dozens of other people on the forums running this same setup? Concerns about over heating are they serious? it's not a race car. The only time you should be concerned about over heating is if you are going down a steep grade. Don't ride the brakes, drive like an intelligent person and you'll be fine.

In terms of the alignment nobody has reported any issue so I wouldn't worry about it.

Has anyone run the 265/65/17s on 8.5" rims? There seems to be no issue on 8" rims; however, I wondering if the extra width will cause an issue, and if they'll work OK without the lift.

DrewD520: I got the truxxx lift awhile back then copied your tire/wheel setup ... But it's rubbing slightly a full turn! It's just barely rubbing, not sure if i should try to exchange or not. looks great
Your tire is only an inch taller, but the Black Rhino wheels have a 30mm offset vs. 50mm from the factory.

For those curious what your Telly would look like with chunkier tires without a lift, here you go. These are Toyo Open Country A/T III 265/50/20 on stock Nightfall wheels. Really digging the way it looks, especially with a nice little layer of dirt/sand on the tread, and the extra 20mm of width looks much better than the stock 245s. If you are wondering, I didn't do a lift because it's a lease and I will probably swap these back out for the stock rubber before returning or selling it. Didn't want to change anything mechanical.

Do these rub at all?

I believe the Nightfall wheels are eight inches wide. Do you think an 8-1/2 inch rim would still provide adequate protection against scuffing against curbs? Thank you.

No rubbing even at full lock
Awesome - how is the ride compared to the stock tires? I'm mostly interested in upgrading over the stocks due to the poor snow performance, and occasional offroading.

Not sure if you meant to reply to me or not, but my non-expert opinion is that a narrower wheel causes the tire to bulge out a little more, all other things being equal, thus protecting the wheel itself from scraping on curbs. Said another way, if you put a 265 section tire on an 8.5" wheel, it would stick out less than the same 265 section tire on a 7.5" (stock) wheel. Again, not an expert by any stretch of the imagination.

I honestly don't notice a difference at all after driving with them for a month. Definitely no "womp womp" noise going down the road that I hear on crazy offroad tires on all the lifted Jeeps around here. I guess you can notice a tiny bit more noise when going around corners and leaning more on the tread, but you have to be listening to hear it. Also take that with a grain of salt because I didn't intentionally listen to the noise on the stock tires before I swapped them out so they very well may have made the same noise on curves too.

Great looking ride! How much noisier are these on the open road than the OEM's?

These look great, thanks for sharing. I'd love to have this look and the extra off-road grip but I'll wait till the second set of tires because I don't want to take the hit on my wallet. I'll let the stock wheels run their course then probably go 265/50/20

Just installed! I kind of nicked the paint rim around the rear emblem as you can see in the picture but I figure just a little sanding and touch up paint later? Black Wheels next!
Hey Firesurf, what grill is that?

sick!(y)(y);)

FYI For those of you that upgraded to 265/50/R20 with no lift.. they rub. Quite a lot. Now sure how people here are having no rub but the Toyo Open Country ones I bought rub on the back side of the wheel well even with moderate turning.

Would they maybe work (and not rub) with a small wheel spacer?
