• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... The truth about gasoline direct injection | How to care for your GDI engine

“The fuel induction service is not a part of manufacturer-recommended maintenance, but it might be helpful to a degree in some high-mileage engines. Of course, it is not a universal solution for all cars; read more below. This service is often recommended to clean the intake valves and ports in engines with Gasoline Direct Injection (DI or GDI). Repair shops and dealers may call it GDI Induction Service.” Here is a link to this excellent article for more perspective on this issue: Fuel Induction Service: does your car need it? | Testing Autos

Do you use this preventatively? If so how often?
i plan to, yes...i plan to do this every other oil change going forward...this will be the first time i do it though

Look into BG intake cleaning at your dealership. They use a tool and chemicals to clean the intake valves. I just had it done at my dealership while getting a recall done.

How much did your dealership charge you for the carbon cleaning? Also did they provide before and after pictures of the intake valves? That would be very interesting.

That’s it? What does that include? Do you know what they exactly do to clean?

I watched a YT video on bg prod channel, where they took a ton of parts apart top of the engine to expose the intake and were going at them with chemicals and agitating with brushes. Seemed time consuming.

I asked them this isn't something that they pour in the fuel tank and they said no it has to do with upper valves where they hook it up to a machine and was a 2 step process.
The product they put in to it breaks down the buildup on the upper valves for GDI engines .
I know on the Turbo form for Kia's. There is a way to do-it-yourself but you have to be careful because you can hide or lock the engine. That's why I chose to take mine to the dealership and have them do it.
I did it at sixty thousand miles.

I always use top tier fuel And if I haven't been able to use it I put in the Techron additive , Also after winter I add a can of Berryman B12 this helps because of the Winter blend of fuel to help the system clean itself up .
I use it in my turbo 2015 Optima sxl and when i had my 05 Outback XT as well this product is highly spoke of is the Is subaru fourms too .
The type of fuel you use doesn't a lot to help fight this carbon build up.

Using top tier fuel and additives are always a good idea. I’m sure it helps keep injectors and other fuel system components clean. But it doesn’t/can’t do much for intake carbon buildup because gas never makes it there. If anything oil additives such as stiction eliminator has a better chance of helping as it’s mostly oil fumes that are passing through the intake.
