• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I know it's cutting it close and going over weight, but has anyone towed a small sports car to the track? If so how was the experience?

I have a 2021 SX-p with the towing package (self leveling shocks). I’ve towed my Miata to the track multiple times with a U-Haul trailer. The U-Haul trailer weighs about 2200lbs and my Miata weighs about 2400 lbs. It’s close to the limit of towing capacity but the Telly does just fine. I’m actually going to buttonwillow this weekend again.

I’m towing my brothers Miata in this pic. My Miata is the montego blue(now turbocharged) and his is the black one(supercharged).

Even with the self leveling shocks I feel the rear squats a little too much for my comfort especially when carrying tools, gas cans etc. so I added some “airlift1000 airbags” for the rear shocks. I’ll be trying those out this weekend. It should help level the rear out even more.

I've towed a 911 for years to events and eventually bought an all aluminum trailer. Difference was 800lbs to 2200lbs.

I know it easy to tell someone to go out and buy a trailer for $$$ but if your really into the sport it's by far the best way to transport a car with an suv. Saves on wear and tear, gas, and the performance of your vehicle. I bought mine used, drove it around the Eastern US for 10 years and sold it for more than I paid used. The U haul ones are so heavy! Meant more for dedicated car haulers and trucks.

I agree, especially with watching the weight, trailer may be the way to go. I have a MKV Supra, that's just under 4k. So something lighter that can transport would be better, lol...

I know a couple people who tow 944s … they swear by the all aluminum trailers. 944 is about 2,500 pounds, so probably more than a Miata but less than a Supra.

Self-leveling shocks are not intended to level the load of a trailer. It's been discussed extensively on the forum that if you are towing over 3500 pounds, you should use a load leveling hitch. When towing close to 5000 pounds, the weight is biased too much to the rear and makes it dangerous for braking and turning because of the lack of weight on the front wheels of the towing vehicle. The extra load on the self-leveling shocks will eventually cause them to fail.

Yes, an aluminum car trailer is only around 1200 pounds so it makes towing a car a lot easier.

Midsize Sportscar Trailer (CT-7551). close to the one I used. Mine actually weighed around 850lbs. They seemed to have gotten heavier
You're right, I was thinking of a Featherlite trailer with the shield, full floor, tire, rack, etc.

I wanted to tow my GTR to track days but I think that is out of the question due to the Telluride's capacity.

A 3000 pound car and and 800 pound trailer, that is well within the towing capacity of the Telluride.
