I don’t know if there is a consensus, but if the 2500 lbs is fully loaded weight, and more to the point if your hitch weight is in the 300 lb range, you will get some sag without the self leveling suspension (or some sort of spring assist), but it is serviceable in my experience. I do keep the 3rd row folded and only haul light weight things in the back while towing.
I would prefer to have the self leveling suspension, but I’m not sure if it is worth the $795 or not. Probably is if it includes the hitch and wiring, too.
If your hitch weight is 350+ or if you plan on hauling some weight in the back while towing, the self leveling suspension (or some other way to address the sag) starts to become necessary. Driving at night (headlight aim) tips the scales in that direction even more.
If you are towing 50 miles a Couple of times a year? maybe not worth it.
To be clear, I don’t have any experience with the self leveling suspension on the telluride, but I’m assuming it does what it is supposed do.
