• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hello all. Just bought a 2021 Telluride and I am pretty sure that the Navigation has never been updated. Is there is anything special I need to do other than go to the web site from Kia for nav updates, enter year/model, download, transfer to USB and then update in car? Anything special to know or avoid? thanks!

Most important thing to know is if you don’t yet have the October 2020 navigation system update (the one that brought the purple theme and Nixie tube radio interface), your system will increment to that version when you update first, then immediately restart and update again to get to the current version. Lots of people don’t realize or understand this and they think they’re done and pull the USB stick out. Then they have problems. So make sure you choose “quick update” when you start, and get ready for a long, two-stage update.

This update is painstakingly long if you upgrading from stock like me. It got stuck at the end of 1/5 for at least an hr so I gave up. Will try again tomorrow with a faster usb stick to see if that helps.

So do you leave the engine running the whole time?

If you’re updating from an old version, yes, you need to leave the engine running (or be hooked up to a battery tender or something).

If you are updating from the April 2021 version or newer, you have an option to update with the car off, but that will depend on the state of your battery.

Might as well just go for a nice drive. Just bring some entertainment, because you won’t have your car audio system.

Thanks for the help. This went well enough, though it did take almost two hours... It seemed to go through the process twice... All if good now thanks for the help fellow community members :)
