• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Thinking of pulling the pin on a SX-Prestige X-Pro, possibly as soon as this upcoming Friday. I guess I have a few really serious questions after owning a Hyundai.

Does the Telluride have any of the following problems that seem to have plagued several years of the Santa Fe;

  • Catastrophic engine failure
  • Hard shift from first to second
  • Just deciding to downshift from 6th to 2nd when it feels like it
  • Headlights suck, I mean a flashlight would really be better than what I have in my Santa Fe really.
It would be really nice if the Telluride did not carry on any of these traits especially in the drivetrain area,
BUT, are there any other severe issues with a 2025 Telluride I should be aware of before diving in head first into the deep end.

I'm going to retire this year, hopefully this will be the last call I buy, I would like to have found a used one but I can't find anything low enough mileage, so I have to go new and drive off the depreciation myself.

Thanks, Bill

Not having owned a 17 Santa Fe, I'm not able to fully answer your questions. The only time I drove a Santa Fe was in 2022 on a work trip from Anchorage to Valdez and that one was fine. I bought a 24 SXP X-Pro last year in March and have a little over 12K miles on it. I have totally loved the car. You can search the forum for information on engine issues, but the majority aren't seeming to have the issues on the forum. Most of those on the forum are looking for help and guidance with problems and sharing problems with dealers. I've been on other forums that were highly focused on DIY and upgrades. This one is more focused on experiences.

Shifting is great and I have no complaints, no hard shift from first to second (my wife's Lexus has that on the current version of the ES FSport) and I've never had a downshift like you're asking about. The shifting is more aggressive in Sport mode, but nowhere that aggressive. I drive the majority of the time in Smart mode. The headlights are much better than average and better than my previous Infiniti Q70 which was all LED. The best headlights I've ever seen in a car are on my wife's Lexus ES, which has the 3 LED headlights on each side. The headlights turn with curves and light up the road like no car I've ever driven. I rent cars all of the time when traveling for work and have driven hundreds of different vehicles. The Telluride is better than average in my experience. The only time I've complained is on very dark mountain roads in heavy rain in the middle of the night.

Traded in a 2019 SantaFe on a 24 Telluride SX Prestige X-Pro....( Santa Fe was it's top trim level )
I had no issues with the Santa Fe, just liked everything about the Telluride, looks & reviews.
The 24, ( ordered ), is 14 months old, has had 2 oil changes & no issues.
I was very happy with the 24 & when someone offered to buy my 2017 F150, I ordered a 2025 for me.
The 25 is 5 months old, getting ready for it's 1st oil change next month, & no issues.
You would be hard pressed to find another vehicle that offers so much for the money !!
