  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Thanks to @mitchkramez there have been some updates to the VIN Lookup Site! Here are some highlights:

  • The load times should be lower now as we are only pre-loading the last 60 days. If you want to view all the car data, click on "All Cars" in the menu system.
  • Apple devices should now be able to use the main car table
  • More fail, less cats.

Nicely done, load times are much improved! (y)

And on a somewhat unrelated note, here are production numbers year to date courtesy of the raw data from FailCat. July was the biggest month ever, and August still managed to top it significantly:

No production yesterday? Or is the tool offline?

@DruKe any idea why the tool took so long to update today? Is it still working as only 219 VINs showed up.

Thanks again for all your work on this.

I had a server issue on my side. I let it run longer than normal and it just had 214 to find today. Maybe more will be picked up this evening. Maybe they made 214 yesterday. Shrug.

Interesting. Hopefully more get picked up this evening. Thanks.

If the VINs have been getting thoroughly scraped this week, then TellyStats seems to indicate that (Edit: US) production is fairly anemic this week with levels less than half of previous weeks so far.

I will reiterate what has been said before - failcat only picks up US productions numbers. The plant builds Tellurides for other countries. US production may be down because they are being built for other markets. That does not mean total Telluride production has been reduced.

But it failcat has always been the net after production from other countries. So the point remains - that volume is down. Significantly down.

It should also be noted that its the week before Labor day.. they may be on light duty based on vacations. Who knows.

This is a likely situation.

I don't think it's down as much as you think. Take the difference in VINs on a given day - it was 374 the other day when the US VIN count was only 200 something. That was Monday. Then the prior Monday, nearly every VIN was consecutive. Which means those were built for the US. So, the mix to countries does matter. A count of records is not sufficient to understand full production.

I think everyone needs to chill the hell out. There's nothing hand-wringing is going to do. Take it for what it is and try to enjoy your day.

To be fair though... you already have your wheels 😉 But for real, no amount of complaining here is going to make anyone's car arrive faster, or show up on failcat any faster - In fact, my coworkers S model that arrived last month, never showed up on failcat at all, she just got a call from the dealership out of the blue... that'd be a nice surprise!

It also wouldn't surprise me if there was a major month-end push to try to meet certain production goals, and that things taper off a bit afterwards to potentially let parts inventories or shipping logistics to catch up.
