VIN Lookup Site

Should be, from what I can tell, there is no designation in the original code. So when they hit, they should show up. I noticed that the spelling for 20 and 21 gray/grey switched and the site automatically picked it up.

What? 22GB of traffic per month for a text site is too much? Yeah it's on the to-do list as well as shorting the preload of the data to the last X amount as a default. Just need to get some time. I seemed to remember you are also handy with coding yes? If so, hit me up privately. I might employ you (same offer I got - gratis) to assist if you want to help.
The potential handing off of the baton.. will be number four to take over. We should have a hall of fame for the forum to honor those who put in work on the Vin lookup site and general site information.. @Telluride Forum

Unless things change over here I don't plan on passing it off, just needing help. :)
So I'm #3? I thought I was #2.. as in second in line.. not #2

Yes @Michelw did A TON of work and got things going here first... then @foresterh came in and they worked together and eventually took over Then they handed the baton off to you.

You all deserve recognition here for long term viewers imo..

Agreed!!! The Telluride Lookup Tool is visited by many here every day. For me...I always look at total production, production for my dealership and then by trim to see what is leading on any given day. Safe to say - I am an Lookup Tool addict!!

It is funny - in the past I always looked up to see if my trim was available anywhere near me. Now I am looking for my vehicle! Fun to be at this stage of a long process. Looking forward to the day when @StephenCantrelle calls me to tell me it is in transit.

@MarcinTexas How’s Production numbers been this week? I’m on vacation and only have access to an iPad and failcat doesn’t work on it..... since your checking every day 😀 Thanks

Still strong - but down slightly from last week. 2,341 cars produced in the last 7 days. Amazingly - the plant has produced 9,324 cars in the last 30 days. Well above the 100K/year target they had set back in the spring. Wish my car wouldn't keep being pushed out.

Another interesting observation - SX AWD production has jumped up quite a bit in the last month. I remember about a month ago someone on this forum said SX demand was overstated by the "enthusiasts" on this site. That the real world didn't want as many top trim models from KIA. Well - given production numbers - clearly KIA knows something that random poster didn't know. People can't get enough of the SX AWD Telluride. I am one of them...

Also - of the 20,253 SX AWD models - 19,287 were a combination of Prestige and Prestige w/tow. Just goes to show how strong demand is for a fully loaded Telluride.

Great info. Thanks @MarcinTexas

No new VINs today? Someone talk me back from the edge because there's a logical reason, right?

I was wondering the same as I'm now looking everyday for my VIN to pop up.

That was me. As I've said before, I'm not saying the SX is not a popular trim (I am picking mine up tomorrow - yay!) nor does it not have demand. I am (was) saying that this particular forum skews toward the higher end and inflates this sense of demand, that other trims are equally popular, and back when we had this convo - Kia shouldn't pour all its effort into just cranking out custom SXPs because we were banging our fists and angry about the wait. Compare this forum to the FB group and you can see that the audiences are wildly different - that this forum skews higher end/fully loaded/anti-Nightfall, and FB is a much more representative cross-section of overall demand (lots of non-SX, pro-nightfall folks). And the fact that dealers are selling out of these things at all levels reinforces that the Kia's approach to the Telluride is much broader than the folks we see chiming in here.

You and me - we're the enthusiasts, and yes we want nice top level (or in my case, near-top-level) things. But the majority of buyers and future buyers are just people who want a good-looking SUV with value (defined up and down the price spectrum) and are going to go for many of the other trim levels. Kia is building for that full spectrum of demand.

Also - of the 20,253 SX AWD models - 19,287 were a combination of Prestige and Prestige w/tow

And not to be nit-picky, but this is just...wrong (with a hint of cherry-picking).

Of course there's a high prevalence of Prestige when you narrowly slice the data to look at just the SX AWD trim, because that's the only way you can get it. But even then 95% of SX AWD including Prestige is incorrect. I'll assume you misread the data (the site doesn't make it easy) so here are some real stats:

* 12,809 SX AWD have Prestige. This is about 63% of SX AWD, so yes this does suggest that the majority of SX AWD units being produced are getting Prestige.
* BUT including SX FWD adds another 7142 units. So across the overall trim level you're down to only 47% of SX units having Prestige.
* And all of that is out of 96.5k Tellurides counted by tellystats. So SXPs are 13.2% of all Tellurides ever made. Yes this is a non-trivial number, but the other side of it is 87% of buyers doing something different.
* Several other slices of this data show more units made than SXP - examples: S AWD (14.5k), S FWD (14.5k), EX AWD (15.9k) etc.

Finally, this is a fun exercise but it isn't a real way to interpret customer demand. I don't think anyone here would say "Nightfall demand is through the roof" because Kia prioritized that recently, or "No one wants towing" because we didn't see towing packages for a while. We should be careful about interpreting Kia's production patterns which are likely more due to supply chain issues, marketing investments (both things I've also mentioned in the past), or operational efficiency by producing in blocks (mentioned by others), rather than any perfect estimation of demand. It's fun directional analysis at best.

So first off - it appears you are correct about total Prestige trims - I made the incorrect assumption that if you filter by P and then by P/T it was two distinct group of units. After going back and looking at the tool - it appears it isn't truly set up to distinguish in the sort. A flaw if you ask me...but anyway. Yes - Prestige demand is lower than I thought. As for your final point - I think we can all agree that we all know that Nightfall production is not the same as current Prestige production. Nearly all prestige production is presold at this point where the NF trim is being produced as part of KIA's ramp up of 2021 dealer inventory. As far as demand goes...many people are picking up a NF and ditching their other order just because they are tired of waiting. In some cases they like the NF - and in other cases they are settling for a good second choice.

Either way you slice the data (and it is a fun exercise) KIA is currently making the choice to prioritize customers that haven't been waiting for upwards of a year - just to have cars to fill their current marketing campaign. If it had been me - I would have delayed the Nightfall introduction by another month given their current production rate - and cleared the insane backlog that is driving customers crazy. But that is just me.

The more I observe things here the more I believe that these long wait times are attributed to dealer “lines” and/or dealer negligence and not the fault of Kia (other than for making a hit car).

COVID aside (because I know this universally delayed everyone), it seems that Kia has done a decent job of managing allocations and being reasonably fair to all dealers given production constraints. It also seems like the KFOS to delivery time isn’t unusually long. The bigger waits seem to be from getting into KFOS in the first place.

And from that perspective I have a hard time having too much sympathy for someone who chooses to get at the back of a very long dealer line knowing it won’t get into KFOS anytime soon. I think it makes a false narrative about long wait times being Kia’s fault when actually things aren’t that bad.

I'm sure this has been answered in this thread but I haven't found it via search. Let say I have an expected ETA from a dealer on October 1st, when would I expect the VIN to pop up on failcat?
