In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Was in a car accident with my Telluride😔

I'm with Stat Farm, the body shop is not doing what they suppose to as far as keeping State Farm informed. Until I called State Farm and let them know what was going on, now they want to be on top of it.

I would contact State Farm and find out if the body shop that your vehicle is at is approved by State Farm. If not, this will not be an enjoyable experience for you. State Farm has authorized body shops that they work with. If they don't work with State Farm, then they may not be able to perform the work and your project will just be that much further behind. My wife worked for a State Farms claims office for many years.

State Farm has agreements with the approved body shops that expedites the processes, because there is some sort of agreement in place regarding what State Farm will pay for specific repairs. For the Telluride, State Farm may not have this in place yet due to the newness of the vehicle.

Again, good luck.

Yes, that's one of the body shop that State Farm provided for me.

I thought if the air bags went off it was considered Total. Guess I was misinformed.

That’s a good rule of thumb as most vehicles that are involved in accidents resulting in airbag deployment are typically middle aged and airbags are expensive themselves, not even considering the additional body damage that resulted in airbag deployment, with that being said, most new cars, like this case, still have a lot of value left and the airbag and damage won’t be enough to total it out.

Sorry to hear about your accident and glad you’re ok, thanks for posting this!

Typically, Most insurances will give you a shop they recommend aka get kickbacks from when you bring the vehicle to that body shop. It’s great for insurance cause they fix your car as cheaply as possible and quicker than other shops would (risking attention to detail.) great for the body shop cause they get the kickback, and bad for you as your car has now been fixed cheaply, although not likely in your case as the vehicle is so new, they don’t have aftermarket parts, typically aftermarket parts don’t hold up in an accident as the original manufacture equipment (OEM) parts do, don’t fit right, and paint peels. With that being said, by law, insurance can only suggest what body shops to go to. You have the right to take it to your body shop of choice. In this case, I would’ve taken it to a Kia dealer with a body shop and requested all OEM parts.

I’m sure they’ll fix it, like you said, they’re trying, but with that type of damage, it’s safe to say it may not drive the same, I’m just assuming here and going worst case scenario, but I would’ve pushed for it to be totaled if it’s not too late. Just my $.2 and again, glad you’re ok!

Also- I know you stated the driver cut in front of everybody but did the Telluride still not detect the slowing vehicles in front of you? Usually, vehicles can sense it before you even can. Do you remember if it even tried to brake?

I tried to tell them that if they can't fix it that they might as well total it out. No from what I can remember the truck did not try to stop, it happened so fast. I'm going to wait and see what this week brings, hopefully the insurance company will let me know what's going on by Wednesday.šŸ¤žšŸ½Thanks for the advicešŸ™‚

I’m not sure who you use to service your Telluride but Maybe this is something you can bring up to a Kia dealer next service? Or more importantly speak with Kia Affairs? I know there’s ā€œblack boxā€ type info in an accident that’s anonymously sent out to Kia to help see how safety features (including auto braking) performed in an accident and since it’s a new vehicle, I’m sure they’d like to hear, if that’s something you’re interested in? Just a thought tho.

Good luck with the car and keep us updated!

I will, Thanks for the advice, I will surely ask.

As a few others here have stated, this type damage will not total the vehicle. It would have to be 75% to 80% of the actual cash value (ACV) of the vehicle for State Farm to agree to pay you what the vehicle is worth (taking depreciation into account). What the insurance company is trying to avoid by totaling a vehicle is ultimately paying more for repairs than the vehicle is currently worth. This can happen when hidden damages are discovered while repairs are being made and the repair cost increases so they just opt to pay you the full ACV instead of taking a chance of paying more later. I don't know how much a vehicle depreciates after a few months but I assume you could look it up on KBB.com. What you do need to do is make sure State Farm also pays you Diminished Value (DV) in addition to whatever the repair cost ends up being. This additional money is a theoretical amount that the vehicle will lose in value in the resale market because it has now been in an accident. There is not a standardized formula for determining DV, but the 17C formula is one that is sometimes used if you want to get an idea as to how much you should ask for during settlement negotiations.

Glad you were not injured and I wish you good luck getting this resolved through State Farm and your body shop.

Thanks

Well that's not too bad compared to my truck and hopefully you didn't get hurt. I'm still waiting on parts and as of today it's been a month since my accident and I'm still in a rental. So for your truck it shouldn't take that long to get fixed, maybe 2 weeks for the parts to come. The collision shop said that a lot of my parts started coming in but they just waiting on one big part to start fixing it. It will work out for you.

I had a small front/side hit while parked only took 5 days to be repaired (Fender, Front Bumper, Head light and a bunch of other small pieces) Body Shop call me today will be ready at 3:00PM Will post pics and hope it looks as beautiful it was before the incident. Nothing was repaired all parts were replaced and since this is a very first year model no Aftermarket parts available, just be aware that many parts used on eBay can be used for unfaith body shops, My headlight looks intact but when inspected some tabs were broken Well hope al of you get your Tellurides soon

Well today is a great day for me, Got my truck backšŸ¤— It looks good, the body shop did an excellent job. Will post pics later. I'm happy everything worked out for you.

Good evening everyone, I just got my truck back TodayšŸ¤— Caliber collisions in Essex Maryland did a wonderful job. They made my Telluride look the same way as when I drove off the lot with it four months ago. The first four is what the body shop fixed, the last one is from the accident. Good luck for those who get in an accident, since this is a new vehicle sometimes it takes time to get the parts in. Hopefully no one has to go through this.
