I would contact State Farm and find out if the body shop that your vehicle is at is approved by State Farm. If not, this will not be an enjoyable experience for you. State Farm has authorized body shops that they work with. If they don't work with State Farm, then they may not be able to perform the work and your project will just be that much further behind. My wife worked for a State Farms claims office for many years.I'm with Stat Farm, the body shop is not doing what they suppose to as far as keeping State Farm informed. Until I called State Farm and let them know what was going on, now they want to be on top of it.
Me too.I thought if the air bags went off it was considered Total. Guess I was misinformed.

I tried to tell them that if they can't fix it that they might as well total it out. No from what I can remember the truck did not try to stop, it happened so fast. I'm going to wait and see what this week brings, hopefully the insurance company will let me know what's going on by Wednesday.Sorry to hear about your accident and glad youāre ok, thanks for posting this!
Typically, Most insurances will give you a shop they recommend aka get kickbacks from when you bring the vehicle to that body shop. Itās great for insurance cause they fix your car as cheaply as possible and quicker than other shops would (risking attention to detail.) great for the body shop cause they get the kickback, and bad for you as your car has now been fixed cheaply, although not likely in your case as the vehicle is so new, they donāt have aftermarket parts, typically aftermarket parts donāt hold up in an accident as the original manufacture equipment (OEM) parts do, donāt fit right, and paint peels. With that being said, by law, insurance can only suggest what body shops to go to. You have the right to take it to your body shop of choice. In this case, I wouldāve taken it to a Kia dealer with a body shop and requested all OEM parts.
Iām sure theyāll fix it, like you said, theyāre trying, but with that type of damage, itās safe to say it may not drive the same, Iām just assuming here and going worst case scenario, but I wouldāve pushed for it to be totaled if itās not too late. Just my $.2 and again, glad youāre ok!
Also- I know you stated the driver cut in front of everybody but did the Telluride still not detect the slowing vehicles in front of you? Usually, vehicles can sense it before you even can. Do you remember if it even tried to brake?

I will, Thanks for the advice, I will surely ask.Iām not sure who you use to service your Telluride but Maybe this is something you can bring up to a Kia dealer next service? Or more importantly speak with Kia Affairs? I know thereās āblack boxā type info in an accident thatās anonymously sent out to Kia to help see how safety features (including auto braking) performed in an accident and since itās a new vehicle, Iām sure theyād like to hear, if thatās something youāre interested in? Just a thought tho.
Good luck with the car and keep us updated!
As a few others here have stated, this type damage will not total the vehicle. It would have to be 75% to 80% of the actual cash value (ACV) of the vehicle for State Farm to agree to pay you what the vehicle is worth (taking depreciation into account). What the insurance company is trying to avoid by totaling a vehicle is ultimately paying more for repairs than the vehicle is currently worth. This can happen when hidden damages are discovered while repairs are being made and the repair cost increases so they just opt to pay you the full ACV instead of taking a chance of paying more later. I don't know how much a vehicle depreciates after a few months but I assume you could look it up on KBB.com. What you do need to do is make sure State Farm also pays you Diminished Value (DV) in addition to whatever the repair cost ends up being. This additional money is a theoretical amount that the vehicle will lose in value in the resale market because it has now been in an accident. There is not a standardized formula for determining DV, but the 17C formula is one that is sometimes used if you want to get an idea as to how much you should ask for during settlement negotiations.
Glad you were not injured and I wish you good luck getting this resolved through State Farm and your body shop.
Thanks for the advice, I will talk to State Farm. Thanks
Well that's not too bad compared to my truck and hopefully you didn't get hurt. I'm still waiting on parts and as of today it's been a month since my accident and I'm still in a rental. So for your truck it shouldn't take that long to get fixed, maybe 2 weeks for the parts to come. The collision shop said that a lot of my parts started coming in but they just waiting on one big part to start fixing it. It will work out for you.I've had mine almost a month and some lady rear end me but no major damage just the bumper and the tail pipes
Yell I was told the parts was order and the bumper assembly in a week and the muffler tail pipes in 3 weeks so hopefully I'll have fix in a month.
