What did you pay for your KIA Telluride?

SX Prestige, nightfall, tow package.

Paid $1600 over MSRP at Kia Manahawkin, reserved a vehicle from failcat with $1000 deposit. Took around 3 weeks to come in.

Just know what your anticipated interest rates are in advance (purchase), or the depreciation and money factor if leasing (can get from Edmunds' Kia forum).

As a business owner, I leased... Money factor was initially too high, but because I knew the numbers from Edmunds forum, I brought it up and they corrected it without any fuss.

How do you reserve a vehicle from Failcat? With back orders, aren’t most of those vehicles already reserved with deposits?

Most of them are, but occasionally you get lucky if you jump on one quickly enough.

Youngblood Kia of Springfield MO is charging MSRP --they are using their allotment for customer orders. I was quoted 3 - 5 month, but looking closer to 7 weeks....

Chris Tate is my salesperson and he has been AWESOME!!
How do you know it’s 7 weeks out? My salesperson said they have no idea how long it will take (quoted me 2-4 months ~2 months ago) until the order is picked up in Kia’s system.

Yup! I25 offered me a full loaded dark moss SX p/n/t coming June 29th that‘s not spoken for. I don’t want DM and NF so I didn’t get it. Probably still available since it was just yesterday.

So I ordered mine 6 months ago and put down a deposit. It's now at the dealer, but the MSRP has gone up by $300. Went from $44,090 to $44,390.

The dealer is demanding $44,390, since that's the current MSRP, even though at the time I paid the deposit, the car was cheaper.

What's the right course of action?

My understanding is that the deposit locks in the price.

Just bought a 2021 Telluride LX AWD White in Orange County, CA. There are almost none anywhere in southern CA. Paid $39K with a manager friend and fam discount, a couple k over MSRP. Many of the higher trims are currently selling for 8-13K over MSRP. Nuts. I just purchased the 2" body lift kit from Truxxx. Do All Terrain Tires with Black 18" wheels look solid with that? It sounds like I should keep to the same 245/60R18 tire size for LX for the new All Terrain Tires I want to buy and put on right?

If you agreed on MSRP, and the MSRP increased, you will need to pay the new higher amount. The dealership has no control over MSRP, it's set by KIA. They probably won't care if you walk either, they know they can easily sell to someone else. I don't think you have much leverage.

Not true. The deposit is to hold the vehicle. I’m guessing there was no detailed contract signed at that time. All prices and financing are at the time of delivery. When the 2022 models eventually come in, the MSRP will be $1500 higher. That is the price we will need to pay.

I was told immediately by my sales rep that if the price went up before the VIN/Window Sticker was generated, I would have to pay the higher price. Luckily, I beat the mid-year price increase, but had I not, I would have paid the higher price.

I’m cheap, but it’s $300, and the price increase is not due to the dealer film-flamming you. Is the fight over the $300 worth it to deal with the hassle of finding another MSRP dealer, waiting 6 months or more, and having to pay a price increase anyway for a 2022 model which will likely be essentially the same as the 2021?

Mr T’s lunch costs more than $300. I’d pay it.

They’ve also added the carpeted floor mats, which I didn’t request, and are saying that they come with the car and they won’t take them off.

Kind of annoying.

Others have had the same experience with the floor mats as well. Unfortunately with this vehicle being so in demand, there's just not much you can do right now.

That bugs me too since I will be buying the all-weather mats. That’s a $200 scam right there.

Exactly. Already ordered my mats.

I noticed that on my order, they added a $50 PIO CN. After looking it up, it’s just a $50 cargo net which doesn’t bother me much but just wonder why they had to do that. After reading about “sold order” I wonder if that is their way to get the order filled fast. The way I underst about “sold order” from reading the posts here is that if dealer order the exact car that was already sold from their allotments, the ”sold order” get priority. But then PIO is port-installed option which has nothing to do with manufacturing the car. Someone please explain if I missed something.

You could try selling them here

The dealership had no control over Kia price increases. I ordered Dec 2019 and then went thru delay after delay with Covid. Kia increased prices in the midst of NOT producing cars. Kia Of Muncie told me that was a possibility. Then I was told I was getting a 2021. My deal was based on MSRP. So MSRP went up by a few hundred dollars like yours. You need to honor your deal that was based upon MSRP. The dealership DIDN'T raise prices, Kia CORPORATE did. They will sell your car to 20 other people who want it if you don't. You aren't going to hurt them if you walk away. You just won't have a car and will get back in line to order, and for sure the price will be higher by then. It's lose-lose proposition for YOU and a win-win for the dealer. Your call. Don't pass this vehicle up over $300. That a putz move.

We have our new Kia Telluride and we signed a buyer order for x price. We added the all-weather mats in the order, but decided we didn't need them as the had to order them and we requested to take them off the final price to finalize the paperwork with our bank. Reviewing the paperwork the dealership informed me that the finance person didn't calculate the taxes properly and that the final price needs to be increased by $500. The dealer should not be honoring the price of the buyer order signed?

We just have our new Telluride SX-N-T, we love the car. We are finishing the paperwork with our bank, and signed a buyer order. We requested all weather mats in the order, but they didn't have them, so this morning we requested to take them out, and the manager informed us that they didn't calculate the sale taxes properly in the order and that there is a increase in the final price of $500 due to taxes. Does the dealership should be honoring the buyer order signed and cover the difference on the taxes?

Where are you in the Dealers order line?

Has the order been accepted into KFOS? Dealer should tell you this has occurred, with initial ETA.

Once accepted, a VIN is generated by the factory and production started.

Then, looking in Failcat, in your Dealers allocations, you should find your vehicle/build that matches your order.

With VIN contact @StephenCantrelle to confirm order/ETA... VIN, with your initials.

@DarkMossJustin throws down a good explanation of the ordering process.

● A deposit gets you in line to order with that Dealership.

● Then it's a waiting game in (Kdealer) until your dealer gets an allocation (only a certain amount are given by Kia to each dealership every month). [*My add on] *Generally, this occurs every month between 15th & 17th.

● Only then is your actual order picked up by the Kia Forward Ordering System (KFOS).

● Your order now becomes reality, production happens, everything moves a lot faster and Kia will post your VIN and window sticker online, listing everything that was able to be put into your order (Not all options/accessories are available at all times, but you can order most everything else OEM from the Parts department, or go for third-party aftermarket stuff if you want WeatherTech Floorliners HP, Husky Liners, ToughPro, Tux, Smartliners, etc.)

● After the car's built, checked, tested around the test track plus all the usual inspections it then goes out for transport. When it finally comes off the truck at your dealership, you'll then get the call you've been waiting for. Take delivery that day or the next if you don't want car shoppers sniffing around your new ride or accidentally leaning on your quarter panels. Fun stuff if you're patient for that initial wait in line behind possibly many other customers before your order gets in the system.
