• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... What is the point of Android auto?

Lol. I have an S10+. I'm not thaaaaat basic. I just didnt see the value in Android auto. If I didn't know the diff b/w apple and Android, then I would be beyond help
I agree I didn't need android auto for my Telly SX. I also just had an update to infotainment system done for free took 2 hrs downloaded via USB it was well worth it. I have the Harman Kardon system. Bluetooth improvement, audio has a better surround and I get the outside temperature instead of that cloud emojis and it doesn't say searching for HD Radio, just when first turned on then change to temp. If there is no HD station.

Where did you get the download from?

How were you able to do this?

I'm assuming this was done from dealership. But here are a few interesting things which are possible with our entertainment system.

Phone Mirroring

Engineering Mode for head unit (this is how the dealership updates firmware)

I have not tested these at the moment, but I'm sure there would only be 2 main options. One system for Navigation and the other would be for Non-navigation. Getting into test mode usually stays the same unless a big update come out. I have seen Honda and Acura share the same options to get in to the test mode. This is my first Kia, so I am not familiar with the head unit at the moment. But if anyone can confirm it is the same on other model Kia's then this should work fine. I would assume if they are the same OS for the Navi, maps should be compatible as well from one car to another.

Let me now how your test come out. Suppose to get a new rotor as my rotor was getting eaten into with only 300 miles. In addition, my tire PSI was all set to 50+ Almost 15-20x the recommended PSI. I addressed my concerns to the dealership. Safety was my main concern. Higher PSI could result in uneven wear and tear on the tires, and even leaving them more prone to exploding. I had a tire explode on me last Memorial Day while going the speed limit which was 70MPH. It is not a pleasant feeling when your front tire blows out on you. In addition, I deflated and inflated my tires just a week before this happened. The tow truck person thought it was unusual to see a tire with so much treads blow out like this. He even stated it was the first he saw with so much tread blow out. Luckily I steered away from any cars and was able to pull over with no one getting hurt.

They usually ship from the factory with 50 psi - the dealer is supposed to let them out. I would be irritated at my dealer over that. - and I bet the ride was not very good!

Thanks for letting me know. Yes the ride was a bit hard compared the the Palisade.

Got a call from Kia Canada to have it done at my dealership. It actually took about 2hrs to upload and 2hrs to download. My vehicle was there from 8:30am done by 12:18pm while I waited. The dealership and I didn't expect this long, but I was the first Telluride to have it done. We joked about I was the first guinepig ha ha.

Engineering mode worked for me. This is where you would flash the updates. I have non Navi, but sure it's the same as the Navi. I'll test on the Palisade. Also noticed its running on Android 4.4. Anyone else conserned that there could be security issues on an older Android version?

So when your connected with Android auto and playing music off the phone is the sound getting to the head unit through the wired Android Auto connection or is it still being transmitted via Bluetooth? I'm not sure about this because my phone still shows the Bluetooth is connected even when I'm using Android Auto?
If it's going through the wired connection then the audio quality should be noticeably better unless the telluride Bluetooth can do apptx hd or similar but I haven't heard one way or the other on that and I assume if it could It would be advertised.

Okay so who is going to try this hack out first? Lol not gonna be me

I found no difference between Android Auto and using Bluetooth for audio quality.Just using Bluetooth now for all purposes either for phone or other music apps. Such as YouTube or Stingray. Therefore I had no needs for Android Auto App. Using Navigation from the infotainment system is excellent incl. POI or other navy. needs. How you set up your infotainment system is key. I do have a degree in electronics and Optics it was easy for me to set it up. I keep my dealership in touch with some of my new findings so it's past on to new owners.

Can you post version numbers? I asked at my dealer about a Entertainment FW update and they said one was not available.

I will post the version as soon as leave my lab later today and verify the #'s. I do not wish to mislead any one in this excellent forum.

Infotainment systems update July 2019
SW:
on.can.55_W.V001.002.190508
Firmware: on.can.292.190125MICOM.0
Navigation:
STD5W.NAM.KMC.190124.815f9790
Map:
NAM.12.41.51590.208.3
Now this maybe different for the U.S. vehicles! So check with your dealership. All I can say is that the update greatly improved my system Bluetooth connection speed and Media on my smartphone ect.Never had any issues with the Map, POI and Navigation, very accurate. So I realy don't need Android Auto or Google Map. Hope this is helpful.

I also don't need to connect via USB

Non-Navi
SW Ver. ON.USA.SOP.V102.181218
Firmware Ver. ON.USA.291.181218.MICOM.D

I was told this was the latest version from the Kia dealership. Can anyone else with non-navi check theirs? Also not liking that that the head unit is based on Android 4.2.2. I am on the latest version of Android version 9 on my phone, but have to give permissions to a device that is on 4.2.2. Feels like having a Windows 10 computer and giving a Windows XP machine full rights to my phone. I would be less concerned if the head unit was not connected to the internet and was standalone as then my phone would be the weakest link. But having Android 4.2.2 on the internet that has full control over my car is a bit concerning.

Unless you have a Google Pixel device, you do not get your updates immediately. Your cell phone manufacturer must update the device for your cell Android phone, then that is given to your cell phone provider which must update and push it to your phone. Does anyone know what Kia is or other car manufacturers are doing for system updates? Are they pushed OTA like cell phones? I doubt that. but it in something these car manufacturers should look into.

Not yet. Not sure if my device has a root for it. Will have to look at another Android forum

I am kind of on the fence of rooting the phone..... not sure why though :))))

I'm on the fence about rooting my pixel 2xl because apparently rooting it wipes the phone which means I have to reinstall everything:cautious:
