• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Posting here as im out of ideas. I noticed this about a week ago, it was all over the front honeycomb grill and bottom bars. Took it through a car wash, didn't help much. Washed It myself by hand and still was there, now ive taken it to a car wash and used a high pressure soap spray and its improving but not gone. I cant imagine the car is rusting after 4-5 months.
I am located in Canada so we have had some snow/salt roads, etc.
Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Perhaps try an SOS pad or Brillo pad on it. I’d hate to think the car can’t withstand the elements after 4-5 months.

Have you take the Telluride to be inspected at the Dealer????? Please let us know if you find what's causing that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was really hoping there was a reasonable explanation on this one... i may try using something a little tougher on it, and then take it in. I cant imagine what kind of debris or other it could be.

I don't know what that is, but it is NOT rust.....here's a picture of mine and that area is PLASTIC so it cannot be rust. That being said it looks horrible....as if something "acidic" got splashed on it!! So sorry....

I'm sure you see something, but the honeyomb grill is plastic....How can that rust?

I'm thinking some kind of metallic residue made its way onto your vehicle which then rusted. Was your vehicle around someone cutting metal for example? Parked outside some kind of factory?

That sounds like a possibility.....

Have you hosed it down? 💦💦💦

Never mind, I re-read the post. Hope this works out for you, that's not rust. You probably ran over some liquid that has acidic qualities.

Would professional detailers be able to take a run at it? Would that be recommended?

I would climb under and see if anything is rusting or leaking from the back side of the bumper to rule out if it came from your car. If that is clear then it came from an outside source. It could have been something that let loose from a car in front of you.

Don't use anything abrasive, start with a clay bar and detail spray to get it off.

Please for the love of God don't use a brillo pad or steel wool on it.

I'd almost try iron remover that is safe for all surfaces (Adams, Chemical Guys, etc.). Then why not try a clay bar and lubricant (soapy water or quick detailer).

Thanks - i'll take a better run at cleaning this and see if it can get it off. Its the fact that it looks like its oozing out from the colored part to the silver part that concerns me. It also seems like a gritty substance (as you can see on the driveway). Seems sandy.

Could be as one other person stated, something behind that panel/up under the car rusting. Could also be something from someone else's car, vomit, or some crazy winter cocktail the municipality is throwing on the roads ahead of icing (they throw some soy sauce liquor type concoction here in my area before snow storms).

I didn’t know what that was until you said the “drive way”. It’s not rust, I don’t think any amount of rust will cause it to leave a pile of “rust” like that. Looks like some kind of dirt.

Did you try washing with hot water and soap?

You might want to check with your municipality and see if they are using beet juice for deicing the roads. I know many states are switching to this because it’s not corrosive. I believe it gets mixed with sugar, that could be your grit.

Whatever you ultimately find......please let us know. I think if I were faced with this, I would try to find a pro car detail outfit and see what they say.

I think the product required is called Rustex ...................I'll confirm

EDIT its called Iron X

I would try something very mild like GooGone spray gel and just let it sit a few minutes then wipe and hose it down then see if it comes back. I have to believe that was splash up from the road.
