What did you pay for your KIA Telluride?

Hi. I have been Planning to purchase an EX, yet initial offers from local dealers in California are $3k over MSRP if I order (there aren’t any EX available at a dealer within 100 miles). My questions for all is if this pricing game considered the norm as of now? I never pay MSRP for a car, let alone more than MSRP. If this is a trend to expect with the Telluride, I just need to know so I can move on from this vehicle and on to another. It’s not that I can’t afford it, it’s the principle. I have an Optima EX and I love it. I also really love the Telluride and Kia as a brand overall, I’ve been a Kia cheerleader for years... but this leaves me feeling like they’re playing us, which turns me off from the whole brand. But, maybe I just have to extend my search to more dealers and over-MSRP pricing is the exception rather than the rule?

Many dealers don't charge over MSRP, you just need to look around I guess. It isn't Kia doing it, it's dealerships. I'd hold off on the EX for now, if you can wait till they get the bugs worked out, I would.

What bugs? I have an EX and have zero issues with the car whatsoever. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned.

Are the bugs you refer to defects with the vehicle, or defects in the purchase process?

I'm glad, you seem to be one of the lucky ones. I bought mine and I didn't immediately realize it, but my infotainment/radio/nav/overall vehicle system doesn't save anything after every shut down of the vehicle. It's probably one of the most frustrating things I've ever experienced in a vehicle. If you head over to the technology forum you'll see our topic under the heading "bluetooth". Thus far, it seems only EX models that seem to be affected.

What do you mean “save anything”? Like radio presets and temperature settings? I’d find it pretty odd that only one trim, that happens to share the exact same infotainment unit as another trim, would be impacted. I am not suffering from this issue at all but can see how that would be frustrating. What is the dealer saying about it?

Head over to the topic if you'd like more info.

I guess I don't find it that odd. I was a bit worried about it to be honest from the standpoint of working in IT for the last 25 years. The system is the same found in the SX minus many of the extras, so there's a lot of software modification that is needed to make it work properly. This is a new vehicle and it would seem they haven't quite gotten this figured out yet.

Imagine in 2019 if you had to get into your vehicle everyday and it welcomed you as if it were a new car with none of the settings you programmed the day before. The worst is your phone not being added and the only way to re-add the phone is to be in park and go through the sync process.

Oh and oddly enough, radio presets and temp must be part of some different system as they actually do save :)

I will reach out to more dealers, but I guess the ultimate question is, assuming I can find a dealer not asking for thousands above MSRP, what are the chances to negotiate at all (outside of any Kia rebates)? I’ve gone through the posts here, but can’t find any that discuss an actual “deal.” I also went through USAA car buying just for kicks and the USAA discount on this is a measly $200, but with the added $3k over sticker, still $2800 over MSRP 😡

I got 1,700 off msrp, plus 2500 in rebates, plus a really good trade in of 2000 over KBB top end value. I'm in Ohio. Others have gotten the same here. Just depends on location really.

I stated I got $3k off MSRP with $500 or so in dealer discount and $2500 in rebates and 1.9% for 48 months. I also posted in vivid detail how anyone can go and do the same.

Where in Ohio are you getting below MSRP?

I’ll forgive you for not reading all 550+ posts in detail, but as has been said before, there are indeed deals out there. Many of which have been posted in great detail. I don’t know how many times I’ve shared that I got mine at invoice, I saw another at $1500 BELOW invoice, and countless others aomewhere below MSRP but above invoice yet.

The caveat is that these deals seem to mainly be in the Midwest. It appears as though the coastal markets are doing most of the price gouging, for whatever reason.

There’s definitely cultural and economic forces at play there. The fact that people are willing paying the markup on the coasts says all you need to know. Us simple Midwesterners would probably burn down the dealership before paying over MSRP for a KIA. When my salesperson told me the car was too hot to make deals on I said “Ok see ya later” and then all of the sudden we were back to negotiating. Look at the TrueCar data showing the average for all trims is $1500-$2000 over MSRP! Knowing some are getting good deals the markups people are paying have to be really high to skew those figures.

People here in the Northern Virginia area are loaded and supply is low. They don't take any of my "reasonable" offers because people are paying "unreasonable" prices anyway. That previous crazy deal I listed where an EX AWD was 43k OTD including $2500 rebates sold the next day. I can only imagine the people who bought it did so for around that price.

Nope, you just need a VIN as stated earlier, or add it to your insurance.
This is incorrect. To receive the Competitive discount you have to be the register owner to qualify. We run what is called a TWIX that shows you are the register owner and submit that to Kia with the paperwork for the rebate.

If you have a family member or friend who has a competitive car that is 2012 or newer then they would have to co-sign and be on loan.

I am looking... no need to split if he can work with me and possibly get a deal. Thanks for the info
Justin Cavey? He is a good friend of mine.. great guy.

I am in California and am not willing to pay MSRP let alone over. I haven’t lost perspective: It. Is. A. Kia.
As mentioned, I will walk away from the telluride if I can’t find a reasonable deal.
I have now seen some reports of good deals, it was a lot going through over 500 posts here. But are there any first-person reports paying over MSRP here, or are all of these reports second-hand? Again, are we being played? 🤔
