Good Dealer Dealings - List Your Good Dealer Experience

Hello there! This is my first post in this forum. I decided to ask you since I too am in Florida (Miami) and interested in a new Telluride. I wanted to understand the ordering process, how long it's taking and what a good deal is these days up huge markups and then, I found your post. Can you please provide more details on this? I am not a Costco member or familiar with this benefit you mention, but certainly willing to pay the membership if I end up saving thousands of dollars. Can you please provide more details? Reach out to Lucas where? You can PM me as well if you prefer. Thanks!
If you have a membership to any of the big warehouse stores, they all might have an Auto Buying Program. But, I used the Costco program to confirm Muncie Kia did participate. Not all makes and models of cars are in the program. Not all dealers are in the program. Some just elect not to participate. I tried so many Florida and other area zipcodes to shop for a dealership closer. But, alas, there were none. Currently, with supply chain issues, Muncie is quoting about 8-10 months plus. You might find another dealership you can work with. But, I ordered from Muncie Kia for the second time. Under MSRP. Lucas Boehm, Internet Sales Consultant, Phone: (765) 381-8306, Email: lboehm@kiaofmuncie.com, Kia Of Muncie Staff - Muncie Kia dealer in Muncie IN - New and Used Kia dealership Yorktown Noblesville Fishers IN. When you talk to any of the dealerships, always ask if they offer the pricing. The $60 membership is well worth the price if it can save thousands. The last time, I ordered, waited, flew one way to Muncie. They picked me up and drove me to the dealership, processed the paperwork, and I enjoyed a Kia Telluride learning journey home.

Amazing! I ended up figuring out who Lucas was yesterday. I contacted him and he replied today. He can still offer this price, but the wait time now is 10-12 months. What this pandemic has done to this and other industries! (Let alone people, families.) Thanks for your response!

Would highly recommend Vadim at Lupient Kia in Brooklyn Park, MN. Picked up our Telluride this morning. Excellent customer service and was able to purchase at MSRP. Liked that their deposit was refundable and that they kept you updated throughout the whole process. You can tell the man cares because he drives a Telluride himself.

Wanted to chime in with gratitude for this forum as my first post. My Ford Maverick has been delayed long enough that we decided a Telluride was a better fit for our family. I was *shocked* to find that walking into an Atlanta dealership with the cash to buy one at MSRP wasn't even close to enough to work.

Thanks to you all, I connected with Bryson Green at Gossett in Memphis. I'll have to do a little driving, but I got exactly what I wanted and didn't overpay.

Placed an Order in December but a unit with our exact specs became avail. Initially they told me 6-7 mos which was fine.
It's interesting they quoted you 6-7 months. My salesman at the same dealer is holding with his 4 month estimate.

You are in good hands. He took care of me and we got our telluride shipped to Atlanta.

Ordered from Halleen Kia (in state pricing @ MSRP for advance orders) in Sandusky on December 15, 2021, picked up Feb 12, 2022. Super easy experience, low pressure sales on features. The sales rep talked me out of the rear seat entertainment after asking me about the age of my kids, he said if I regret saying no they'll be happy to install them later but he didn't think I would.

FYI they quoted us over MSRP now. YMMV.

Congratulations. Did you already receive your Telluride or when are you expecting it to arrive?

Wow. You ordered in December and it arrived in February? Did they have a cancellation of another order that matched yours? Your order to delivery time frame is unlike anything else I've seen on this forum.

22 AWD Glacial White Pearl Exterior/Black Interior SX/Prestige/Towing/Mats/Mud Guards
Ordered 10/07/21 @ MSRP w/$500 refundable deposit
KFOS picked up 2/09/22
ETA 4/29/22
VIN TBD
Failcat TBD
Picked Up TBD

Spoke to a dealer and was told that the current wait time for new Telluride orders is 12 months. That's a lot longer than what people are reporting on this forum.

Did anyone else experience the same?

Was told 10-12. After specifying S AWD was told it might be significantly shorter.

Hello All,

I found this forum to be super helpful when I started my Telluride search a few days ago. I wanted to give back by providing some information to all the folks in the Tristate area (NY,NJ,PA) with the most updated information (as of 2/19/2022). This WILL save you guys some time and will overall summarize what my experience has been like in my search.

During my search I reached out to over 120+ dealerships within a 4-6Hr driving radius from NYC.

NYC - Don't bother looking in the 5 boroughs/Long Island, you will be faced with generally a 7-15k markup on these vehicles.

NJ - I want to give a shout out to Tito @ Sansone Kia (Woodbridge), he has been a straight shooter. They are selling incoming vehicles @MSRP but there is a mandatory package that comes to about 3k~ which includes a lo-jack device, interior protectant/warranty and VIN Etching with a 699 doc fee.

Upstate NY -
I decided to purchase my vehicle from Duchess Kia, ask for Joe Ossipo 845-462 - 7700 EXT 24 joesepho@dutchesscars.com. I put my deposit down on a Wolf Grey SXP Nightfall with 3k>MSRP from Joe. He is also a straight shooter and their doc fee is $222.50 and the specific vehicle had a lower MSRP which made sense for us since we didn't want the tow package/running board that was offered elsewhere.

PA - If you looking to place an order, give Ernie Kemper @ Sunbury Motors Kia a call. They have a relatively short list right now ~15-20 last I checked and they are taking orders @MSRP. I was quoted 6-8 months but jump on this as I believe orders will come in once the word is out.

The other dealers in the tristate areas that were previously mentioned here have been pretty saturated and orders are closer to 10-12 months. I decided to pay >MSRP to secure a 2022 model year because the released photos of the mid year refresh on the 2023 model did not appeal to me. I know there is a group of people here that would agree with me and I think once people realize this the new 2023 refresh people will scramble to snatch up the remaining 2022s. I would strongly recommend reaching out to Joe if you are interested, has another black on black SXP nightfall coming in. I hope this helps save you guys some time and my way of trying to give back to the community.

I spoke with Duchess, they soured me on the fact that their mark up is $2k but would be $3k for me because I’m on Long Island. I just can’t go for that on principle. Here on LI I still have not even been able to get a price quote. They literally won’t divulge what the mark up is over email or text. The best I found was in Rochester with a $1500 markup but they won’t sell out of market (I would probably register to my in laws house upstate if I went that route).

i have my order in with Muncie but I’m still searching. If I can do $1500 and get the carvana quote I have for my trade-in I would pull the trigger, but I don’t see that happening, so the wait is on.

Best New Car Buying Experience I've ever had at Classic Kia in Waukegan IL (Chicago) Just purchased a 2022 Kia Telluride with help and expertise of our Sales Guy John Plewka. John and the guys at Classic are straight shooters. We ordered through John and Classic after seeing good reviews on this Blog when we experienced other dealers trying to up-charge from MSRP by $10K. John Placed our order for exactly what we wanted and communicated with us every 2 weeks throughout the waiting process. 4 months later (better than most other dealers based on the other thread) we got our car.

2022 SXP AWD, Glacier White, Nigh Fall, Tow, Napa Dune

The quick and dirty: Finally got a Telluride on Saturday, had an overall good experience with Arapahoe KIA in Denver, CO. My salesman was primarily Jim, only way I can explain him, is that I felt like I was buying a car from my dad. Shawn who recently started helped out as well. Both these guys were outstanding to deal with and I would gladly buy a car with either of them again at Arapahoe Kia. Not overly happy with the sales manager, but in the end we got a Telly for MSRP, minus 300 veterans Kia Rebate, and a 699 dealer fee in about three months so we are grateful for that.

The full story:

I ordered a Dark Moss EX with the premium and nightfall package, black interior, no other options back in Mid-December for the wife. Jim said to expect a 4-5 month wait. He took the time to answer all my questions, concerns, including dealing with our trade in. He explained I would know about a month before the vehicle arrived and I could get an appraisal from them for trade and look at selling privately or using Carmax or Carvana as a back up with plenty of time. Jim provided an update mid January that we were picked up in KFOS and would have an ETA in about a month (that was quick).

Feb 19th, I got a call from the dealer, expecting it to be Jim with an ETA (Nothing in failcat yet). To my surprise it was Shawn. He explained that they had an order come in very close to ours except a gray interior and tow package. The vehicle was for my wife, she was not sure about the gray interior. We decided to head in the next morning to look.

I went in as prepped as I could, including an online offer from Carmax for 29300 for our vehicle we needed to sell/trade before getting a Telluride. The wife ended up really liking the gray interior. Jim was slammed, as they sold / delivered four Tellurides before 12pm by my observations. Shawn was dealing with us in the mean time, what a super guy.

They came back with our trade in offer at 21k. 8k under blue book, 9k under NADA value. I obviously explained that just wouldn't work. Shawn took our Carmax offer to get the manager to do better.

This is where I was a little irritated. I get the sales manager should be the bad guy, I get it, but he put all the blame on Shawn. He explained Shawn was new and should not have offered me the vehicle at MSRP, I should be paying their markup. (I don't think any employee should be thrown under the bus like that) Further explaining the only way to get MSRP is to order and wait, but they would sell at MSRP to me due to "Shawns mistake". I explained I had ordered, had been waiting, and should have an ETA any day. I figured we were helping each other other considering their buyer cancelled and they were still getting my vehicle I had ordered with a more desirable interior color. They called me to see if we would settle on a different car. The manager explained they would not get anywhere close to the Carmax or blue book value even with my tax savings of trade in (I would have taken less knowing I was saving on taxes). Carmax was less than 10 minutes away, I said fine we will go sell the car the right now, I will be back in 1-2 hours with a check. The manager responded with, I cannot promise the Telluride will be here. I offered to leave him with a 5000 dollar deposit in good faith and he refused. My wife asked if they were really going to let us risk selling our car and not having anything and the manager agreed it was their policy. Sorry, but not sorry.

I agree these are hot cars that will sell fast but we had been there now for 2-3 hours with two kids, Money in hand, less the trade in issue. Further we had been extremely patient and understanding with how busy they were. I felt like the manager was trying to get rid of us so they could sell the car with a markup by low balling us on the trade.

Fortunately Shawn put us at ease that it was getting later in the day and the Telly would still be there. We agreed I would call him to double check before finalizing with Carmax we were a go. Carmax was a breeze, we were out in 90 minutes with a check for the exact amount they offered us online, sight unseen.

Shawn and Jim had our Telluride prepped and in the delivery bay by the time we returned. Jim worked hard to get us in to finance and giving the wife a run through on her new car features in a timely manner. No surprises in finance, typical up upselling on warranties, protection plans, ect that we declined. We were able to get the Military/Veterans incentive with no issue from Kia.

Over all we had two outstanding salesmen and got a Telluride a few hundred under MSRP. I would recommend them hands down, just be prepared with your trade in.

New to the forum - located in Charlotte, NC and the dealerships in this area are absolutely smug about charging no less than $5k market adjustments, plus the other customary add on garbage..I am so frustrated.

Looking for a wolf gray / nightfall EX or SX. Willing to order and wait a reasonable time.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Search these forms- i think there is a dealer in Cary someone mentioned, and one in south west VA. People are traveling up to 4 states away or paying for shipping For MSRP.
