• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... November update available for download

maps, for one.

Many people aren't interested in factory navigation (relying on Carplay or AA instead). Is there anything else worth upgrading for?

I love the Telly and I enjoy showing it to friends. But I think the new Barney UI is awful, borderline embarrassing. I don't want to look at it every day and I really don't want to find myself rolling my eyes to friends, staring at the strange vacuum tube radio display, and describing the whole thing as the one head-scratching and unexplainable aspect of the car. Even Kia's own dealers have Youtube videos expressing disappointment with it.

That's your second turn from where you are currently. So it looks like you're going to be turning right in 6 miles, followed by a left turn in 0.2 miles after that. It's especially helpful if you have situations where you make one turn and then almost immediately follow it with another, you can anticipate what you will be needing to do.

But the number in that box doesn’t change, at least the 2 times I paid attention to it.

In the photo you provided, the little box would stay frozen at "0.2mi" until you've driven 6.0 miles and completed that first right turn.

My first trip home I remember it never changed until I started another guidance. This second time I didn’t pay attention at the end but I’ll next time. Thx

I have never done a single update to my Nav system since picking up my Telly from Lucas at Muncie. I have no interest in the horrendous purple tube appearance of the updated system I've seen posted here. I use Waze daily for navigation and listen to music or podcasts from my phone while driving.

Just want to know if I am missing anything "critical" by not doing the Navigation system updates 2 years later?

Also I reset my maintenance schedule in the vehicle to 7500 mile reminders so I ignore the dealer's recommendations for 5k mile oil changes. With today's synthetic oils, I don't think this requires oil changes every 5k miles. I drive 70 highway miles RT to work everyday.

Would love feedback...

There are still some that feel fine using Windows XP today. ;) Your probable not missing much. I don't have the interest to deal with the minutia of what every update fixes or corrects. I imagine its map updates mostly for those that depend on it. I use Waze and Spotify, sometimes XM. I still do the updates because I want the best performance that is out there, despite the purple tubes.

You are right! 🤣🤣 My hospital's medical records system just moved us out of Windows XP about 2 years ago. We are ages behind in the computer world at work!!

So when you use Waze and Spotify, what do you see on your screen that others are claiming is so offensive? Do any purple tubes show if you have Waze running and say the compass on the 1/3 of the remaining screen? Maybe I would not see much change after all. You bring up valid points.

The funny thing is my computer knowledge ended with XP. My son is a software engineer and after win7 he took over all the IT work and I went into old man, new computer mode. Basically calling him in to fix any problems each time becoming more and more ineffective. As far as the Telluride, I think the triple screen and the tube is most of the problem. When is that next update?

Rewind in the thread a little bit to see some of the non-maps things that have been updated over the years. You can decide if any of that is important to you.

If you’re pretty much exclusively using CarPlay, I don’t know what you even have to be worried about. CarPlay is CarPlay, so it will be the same no matter what. The Kia compass does have a purple tinge to it, but if you move to having CarPlay take up the full screen, you’d never really ever see the Kia interface outside of startup.

And for anyone who has a problem with any of the purple stuff, grow up.

Some folks just want to complain just for the sake of complaining. I guess some of the these "issues" for other folks don't really bother me that much and I just move on.

On another note, I actually like the native satnav system in the KT. If you don't venture out of cell phone range/coverage...then just keep using waze, gmaps via AA and CP.

We went to Rocky Mountain National Park and couldn't search any places/directions from phones. Thank goodness for the native nav in the KT.

This sums up the major differences. You will get over real fast unless you are OCD about infotainment UI.

As mentioned by others above, if you primarily use Carplay when driving your Telluride, these UI changes will have essentially no impact.

One reason why you always want the latest maps is if there have been ongoing construction in a metro area, you would want to know road closures and new routes.

"Grow up".... to the late 90's? Or do you think vacuum tubes are an example of a sleek and modern media interface these days.

Thanks. All good input. And you all make solid points for upgrading. It's not that bad looking actually.

The radio screen vacuum tubes aren't purple. I was talking about the many people who shoot down the modern purple home screen and the purple accents and other neon design in the icons by referring to them as being "Barney" or juvenile or feminine.

Would it be my first choice if I was the designer and I was trying to come up with something that was classy and neutral? Probably not. But it's not the end of the world. And for people who use CarPlay or the factory navigation primarily, you never really see any of this stuff.

I don’t have the system that has the built in Nav in my Telluride from 2020 so I use CarPlay exclusively. I will say that IOS updates to the phone sometimes create or reveal bugs in the infotainment that have to be fixed with an update. So it may be worth it to do updates just to make sure your phone projection works well. You don’t want to be looking for the next direction in traffic then have a problem with the smartphone screen projection.

Anyone else getting a "Decompression Error" when trying to download the update? I haven't been able to download since they released it again the other day since it stops around 2% download with the error. I also tried downloading the Hyundai update for my wife's Tucson and get the same error. Using Mac OS not windows.
I'm getting a decompression error when downloading the most recent update. I have tried numerous times, wifi, hardwire, deleting the files and updater. Nothing seems to work, contacted customer service who know about the problem but only solution they gave was try another computer of purchase the update for $25 plus shipping.

Wondering if you ever found a solution.
