I have a Telluride on order. Ordered 1/25/2022. Was so excited and couldn’t wait for it to get here. After following this forum, I am getting nervous because of the windshield issues and transmission issue (vibration at higher speeds). My question is: do these issues hinder anyone else from loving their Telluride? Are these isolated incidences? Don’t want to make a mistake in my next car as it needs to last me a long time. Thank you for you patience with my nervousness! I want to love my NaniRide when it gets here!
In my opinion, you can't do much better than the Telluride, and this is coming from someone who for years owned Volvo's exclusively.
We just returned from a nearly two month trip that took us from the Philadelphia area, to the Sierra Madres (northern CO), down to the Sangre de Cristos (Taos, NM) to the Wasatch/Unita ranges(SLC/Ogden, UT) and back. More than 6,000 miles in all. The car performed flawlessly, even in the very cold (below -20F on many days),in heavy snow (38" in 24 hours one day) and often very high winds on the highways. The Telly was a pleasure to drive with its automated controls, and has a sound system that is quite good (not really up to the Volvo Dynaudio system mark though). The car is quiet and comfortable as well; its seats are very close to those of Volvo (generally con sided the best in any car.) More importantly, we always felt safe and in control, even during the harsh weather we often encountered.
I'll also mention that we used the Telly to tow our T@B 320 this past summer, and again can't say enough good things about its performance. Not as many miles as our winter trip, only about 2,000 or so, but more than enough to report that it is a great tow vehicle. Roomy, quiet, comfortable and with enough performance to easily tow a 2,200 lb camper while getting decent mileage.
As far as transmission issues, there were/have been none. With regard to the windshield, we got pelted with road grit and stones on several occasions; one hit was enough to make a barely perceptible mark that when I brought the car in for service upon our return, the dealer it is far too small to even consider repairing, and told us to not worry about it. The only substantial flaw is the lack of protection in the front of the car. The stones and debris that did not damage the windshield did make more than few dents in the condenser. I intend to get add some mesh or expansion metal protection to prevent any further damage.
There's a reason why Car & Driver, Motor Trend, Edmunds and Consumer Reports all rank the Telly the number one mid-size SUV (for three years running.) If you read CR, you's see that the only other car in the Telluride classs that even comes close is its cousin, the Pallisade. CR rates the Telluride reliabilty overall at 5 out of 5 but in case you're still worried, the Kia warranty is 10yrs/100,000 miles. Folks are waiting months and/or paying well over list for the Telluride, and while that's something I wouldn't do, it does make a certain kind of sense considering the quality of the vehicle.
I think I can safely predict that you will love your Telluride.
