• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I dropped an earring into the air vent in the center of my telluride dashboard. Any ideas on how to get it out?

I don't even want to ask how you managed to do that! LOL

I put them on the dashboard in a hurry to fasten my seatbelt and my husband started driving before I was able to grab them! LOL So they slipped into the air vent in the center of the dashboard that almost touches the windshield. I looked everywhere online and it seems like i am the only one in creation that managed it! LOL

If you can see it, you can retrieve it. Not sure if this would work and if the opening is big enough. If you see it, would have to come up with a plan, either magnets or something sticky. Happen to have a surgeon around that's good with non invasive surgery?

Shut all the vents besides the one the earring is in. Turn the fan speed to full blast.

I seriously doubt if a magnet would work on what I assume is mostly gold? Anyway, what you need is something really sticky and I suggest you go get some Gorilla double-sided tape. Wrap a piece around something like a thin screwdriver, or tongue depressor, or long toothpick, and carefully go on a fishing expedition.

If you still can't retrieve it, then you have a decision to make: If it is valuable or has great sentimental value, then bite the bullet and let you dealer get it (won't be cheap). They'll know how to remove the dash. If it is costume earring then just forgetaboutit!

Thanks so much! I just ordered this camera, which has a retrieval hook that I can attach, also a magnet which will come in handy because we also dropped a screw in there from the grill we removed ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00. The earrings are gold so a magnet won't work, but I also ordered this sink snake tool ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00. I am hoping when the tools arrive tomorrow, I will be able to retrieve them. Thanks for the idea! I am sure this will be cheaper than going to a mechanic! Let alone a non-invasive surgeon! LOL LOL LOL

We tried that first, and nothing. Thanks for trying though.(y)

LOL Thanks. If the camera and sink snake bring no results, I will def bring it to a dealer. They are valuable, so i need to retrieve them. 🙏

Let us know how it turns out -- and good luck!

I cannot see it, I am hoping to see it when the camera gets delivered tomorrow.
Do you have a small mirror like a dental mirror?

That's a good story, and I'd stick to it if I were you. Let the rest of us imagine what you and hubby were doing!!!!!

I'd try the long flexible stick (extra long plastic zip tie would work) with duct tape or Gorilla tape firmly wrapped around the tip sticky side out please.

Oops, i see you've already ordered a probe camera. good luck getting them.

It sounds like a tricky situation, but don't worry; you're not the first to face such a mishap! Here are a few ideas that might help you retrieve your earring from the air vent in your Kia Telluride dashboard:
  • Before you start poking around in there, make sure the car is off.
  • If the earring hasn't fallen too deep into the vent, a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment might be able to suck it out. To prevent the earring from getting lost in the vacuum cleaner, you can secure a small piece of pantyhose or a fine mesh over the hose's end with a rubber band.
  • If your earring is made of a magnetic material, you can try attaching a small magnet to a string or a flexible piece of wire. Carefully navigate the magnet into the vent to attract and pull out the earring.
  • Wrap some sticky tape (with the sticky side out) around a flexible stick, such as a bendable straw or a thin, long dowel. Gently insert it into the vent and try to stick the earring to the tape.
  • There are tools designed specifically for retrieving items from tight spaces, such as a flexible grabber tool or a mechanical fingers tool. These can be found at hardware stores and are quite effective for reaching into narrow and deep spaces.
  • If all else fails, you might need to remove the vent cover to access the earring. This can vary in difficulty depending on the car model. For the Kia Telluride, the process might require some disassembly of the dashboard components. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, it might be best to consult a professional mechanic or the dealership's service department. They have the tools and expertise to remove parts without causing damage.
  • If you're not confident in attempting to retrieve the earring yourself, or if the above methods don't work, consider taking your car to a professional. A mechanic or a dealership technician can safely remove the necessary parts to get the earring out without damaging your vehicle.
It's an unfortunate situation, but with a bit of patience and maybe a bit of creativity, there's a good chance you'll be able to retrieve your earring.Good luck!

Some people just don't bother to read the conversation before commenting.
