• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hi everyone, have a bit of a strange one. I've searched through the forums as well as on-line and haven't been able to find this issue with the Telluride. I'm assuming its not common.

We have a 2022 SX-L (Canada) picked up in April. It was parked out in front of a store for about 15 minutes. When we got back to the car, it was full of white smoke. Opened the doors and saw that a small section on the back of the passenger seat was burning/melting. We were able to quickly put it out.

Went straight to the dealer, assuming it was caused by the seat heater. Although it was parked and off. Dealer inspected and feels that it started from outside the vehicle, not from inside the seat. The windows were closed so nothing was thrown in. They feel it may have been a freak accident caused by a magnifying glass effect through the windshield. Hard to believe IMO. Either way, its all being covered under warranty but I was wondering if anyone has heard of this happening on the Telluride before.

Thank you

The seat heater would not be on if the vehicle was turned off. Sounds like a freak incident.

Can you provide a pic looking through the hole? Want to see if the heating element is actually behind there. Curious.

Thanks.

There was a video showing that if you leave a clear plastic water bottle inside of a car and the sun is bright enough, it will start a fire, like a magnifying glass. I couldn't believe it when I saw it !

Thanks for the pic. Somewhat inconclusive. Hard to tell if there's a heating element back there. I would check the fuse for the rear heat seating to see if is has blown. (if indeed it operated correcly in the case of a short / malfuntion) That may help to diagnose if it was the heating element. (again, only if the fuse operated as intended in the case of an element malfunction. Otherwise, it's going to be hard to prove it was the heated seat function defect)
