• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... It doesn't do anything that the vehicle's infotainment system doesn't do. All Android auto does is lock out all of the other cars features. It gives me my call list and my music...... But I can't find an advantage to using it. Does anyone actually use Android auto and if so, am I missing something here?

In states like Ga where you can’t touch your phone while driving it allows access to things like maps and podcasts on the infotainment where you can touch that. I use CarPlay on a daily basis and it’s a must have in my next vehicles

I use Waze throught the phone instead of the built in navigation. the advantages are updated maps with no need to pay to update (KIA pay attention) and Waze includes notices of current road closures, trafic info, road hazards, and displays POPO's (police). on-board GPS can't do that and you still have to pay to update maps.

Ah, I can see the navigation usefulness. Don't use Navigation often but I will use carplay for that. Otherwise , it's kind of useless to me

AA also allows you to hear and reply to text, SMS and messnger messages hands free. It doesn't lock out other radio functions as you can go back to the radio screen, set your station you want to hear, then go back to AA

This is why I come here! Thanks for the info.

Hmm I wonder if the issue is just that you don’t have a android phone. If you are using an iPhone then yeah Android auto serves no purpose at all. its Either or not both of that makes sense. If you have iPhone then use CarPlay. If android phone use android auto. They both essentially serve the same purpose.

I second Waze - saved me from a ticket just this morning. I also like the 'album covers' that come up when using Pandora - you don't get that from Bluetooth - only Android Auto - to bypass when connected if you use your button to see all running programs you can click on another program while it is running - voila you are not really locked out - it just fakes you by disabling the Home button without initiating an 'Exit Android auto" .

Also - I think you can initiate a text through bluetooth - just click on the assistance top left of steering wheel controls and say "Text john doe' and she will prompt you from there. I don't think that Texts come through the screen when sent to you unless you are connected to AA though when sent to you.

Texts do come in without AA. I haven't used AA much (only to give it a try) and I get texts on my screen, and can choose to have them read to me. I was looking forward to the wireless charger pad and the freedom of not having any wires in my console. I guess I will play around with it more. I may just jump between the two depending upon my needs (AA for navigation). I also get album art through spottily when using bluetooth

Yes, texts come through bluetooth but you can't reply. Messenger messages do not come through bluetooth though. Those do come through AA and also let you reply to them.

By Messenger - I assume you guys mean Facebook Messgenger? I don't use Facebook. I could use Skype though!

If you have used a Google Home, you can interact with your phone and Google Assistant. So you can do things like interact with your smart home (like talking to Google Home). I have a Nest Termostat, so I can say Set Upstairs thermostat to 70 while I am driving home just by pushing the button to interact with Android Auto.

You can do Spotify, Pandoroa, IHeartRadio and control it on screen or with your voice.

Waze of course

First problem is you have an Android

I kid, I kidddddd 😬

For me, Waze is totally worth it. Also, with a premium Spotify account, you can have your music downloaded locally so you aren't limited by data limits or signal strength. I used it this weekend in a rental for work and it was very useful.

I third Wazes. Then though they are bought out by google their crowd sourcing data for traffic is great. In addition, accidents are updated immediately by the Wazes community. I was leaving the dealership and i heard a loud. Loaded up Wazes and it was reported within 2 minutes.

Waze is worth it 100% for me, no doubt. 2nd, I can reply to any text message in full sentences via google assistant, rather then KIA's limited response options.

Haven't tried using voice to send text messages. But I have noticed that in one of my message app, when I accidentally press the voice button, it saids saving to your Google email account. The app is not owned by Google but find it a bit intrusive that Google still saves my recording. I've only notice this after accepting all of the Android Auto terms and agreements. For privacy avocates this could be a concern.
