Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

600 over invoice vs 6000 over msrp... the math explains everything done by this stealership.

I think you should’ve contacted Kia before asking for deposit back and demand agreed upon contract before.

And this goes to what I sad in the beginning of this forum, you have dealers active on forums and on FB pages jacking up the prices and justifying charging over MSRP, when in couple of months this all will be forgotten and they will be happy to sell to anyone. Nobody will give premium because you paid over when is time to trade or sell the car, and nobody knows what they’ll be worth in 3y anyway. Kia is so shady and should step on dealers greedy hands!

So, I’m currently out of the country on business and been informed my FWD SX is scheduled to arrive on June 21st (10 wks later) day before I return. I’m been trying to finalize paperwork remotely to make a quick exchange. Now, Carriage Kia of Woodstock is attempting to add over $1800 in addendum cost for the following,

2 oil changes
2 tire rotations
Ding repair for a year
Key replacement of a year
Polyester repair for a year
Life time loaner

During order placement I paid my $1000 deposit and agreed on purchased price of MSRP, less and incentives at the time of delivery.

Qualified for $1500 cash back, plus $1000 loyalty rebate.

I asked multiple times for an official Financial documentation for the agreed price and dealership would not provide. I raised my concerns multiple times via email and in person and was verbally guaranteed and shook hands with both sales representative and sales manager I would not pay a dollar over MSRP.

Is this legal? I highly question the ethical and legality of this bait and switch tactic.

I’ve sent emails to upper management and currently waiting there response.

Can any shade light on this matter.

Yeah my wife had an unpleasant experience with Kia in Irving Tx Clay Cooley.. She made a call to the dealer and asked about the telluride. She wanted a white S, well the sales men said “your in luck and if you come down we can start the paper work”. She asked “are you selling for MSRP” lol.. The guy said ‘well yes”, so we drove an hour down there and then was told they had another couple there now filling out the application. It was literally a race too get it first well we actually completed first and the deal came back with a 5k dollars up charge. We said “um you said it was MSRP’ he said “I never said that”... lol we got up and called him a liar and left. We left a bad google review then 8hours later we get a text from the sales men saying they have another S but AWD and they would try and get us into that one. We said well we wanted the other S because the AWD was 2,500 extra and 3 weeks out. We gave it another shot and I went down there to start the paper work, well they came back with another up charge of 1,500.00 the manager then comes in and makes comments of us writing a poor review and that they did not sell the first Telluride for 5k over that they sold it for 1,500 over like me. He literally admitted it to me and I lost my mind and said “so you originally told me 5k over then I complained and left then you sold it to the next couple for 1,500 the one I wanted and now I have to wait 3 weeks for this AWD”. I told him ‘You sold it out from under me”.. He turned to me and acted stupid and was like ‘I don’t understand what your saying”..I sat there and explained it again, he did not get what he just said and finally I got up and said forget this he said well ok and as I was leaving he ran his mouth and said so your going to write another review I said probably, he then said how about I take 500.00 off and look at some incentives. Do what you must but it’s a freaking Kia in a year there will be a Telluride on every corner like a Ford Explorer... Come to find out that Mr. Clay Cooley monitors the reviews and they got there asses chewed out for the shenanigans they pull. I literally saved the previous couple the up charge like they did me originally. Clay Cooley the owner is in my opinion a owner that runs his dealerships very well and am pleased with the outcome and I say use your voice on reviews and in my case the dealership is not at blame just the people In charge. There at the Kia they have been called out and put in place by the owner, so they should act right..

Something to think about - Dealerships use the "non refundable" deposit as a ploy and probably receives an ordered vehicle and sells it to the highest bidder and keeps the customer, with the deposit, on the hook. Ensuring a long wait an maybe you get the vehicle or you move on. Lesson learned on this one, no more non refundable deposits (major red flag).

Unless you need a car or your lease is up why would you put up with this nonsense? To be the first on your block? and it seems some people are trading in two-three year old vehicles to get into a Telluride when they definitely can wait a few more months not to deal with the dealer BS.

It's like when I see people waiting outside a new sandwich shop or another food joint to get lunch for 20-30 minutes. Just shake my head and move on- in two weeks there won't be any lines.

I pretty much visited all the KIA dealers in Columbus OH when I was in town for a day and found most very straight forward. They would add me to a list and call. Only one asked about leaving a deposit. Did not check about markups. Same in Cincinnati. Seems that dealers will post that they have one in stock, but really do not. I did find one in Louisville KY and found they wanted 4K over sticker. I said no and hung up. 3 minutes later the manager called back and removed the up-charge.

Time to add Jeff Wyler Kia Fairfield to the list of bad dealers. I ordered an SXP on 4/22 with no deal in place. Well, they come out with their initial offer of MSRP 48,400 with 800 of theft protection, 1900 for paint protection and 5000 market add on. Also on that vehicle it has to be 3.9 for 60 for 1500 back. Well, I laughed a them and said give me my trade in key back. I have bought 8 vehicles in the past from this dealership and have my service all done there. Well, the manager comes running out saying he didn't know it was me. He agreed to go down to 2.9 for 60 and drop the theft protection and paint protection. Still wanted the extra 6500 even if I asked him if he's willing to make a few thousand now to lose a lot more later (my future sales and sevice) . well obviously they do, they wouldn't come down anywhere near MSRP and said nobody in the country is. I am no longer going to do any business there.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I know you’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival. It sucks they would do that to you on an ordered vehicle. It’s one thing if someone else backed out and it was up for grabs but that’s ridiculous. I got my SXP from Sweeney Kia in May and they treated me right.

I was really amazed myself as I didn't expect that. I would expect that if I hadn't bought so many vehicles from them in the past, but I guess they don't value customer service like they used to. I bought both my Stingers from them when they were hot and they gave me good deals on them..even under MSRP when they were selling for above at some places. I guess their sales model has changed.

sorry about your deal. What're you going to do now?

When you fill out the Costco membership info it asks for your phone number. Does this go to the dealer? Email is one thing but I don't want them to have my phone#.

I don't know, the dealer is supposed to call me tonight. He said he does all the costco stuff, I just have to have my number. I would say it would go to the dealer.

I was always amazed by customer service and taking care of customers when I moved to USA from Europe couple years back! I never had any issues with anything, and I dealt with online, in person, Home Depot, Acura/bmw dealer, returning items, insurance, cable, I mean everything. I argued wit customers service but they always let me win, only Cigna is an a** company, but to treat you like that is so messed up and greedy. I mean you bought all your cars from them, cmon. Still considering ascent, those can be bought at invoice and dealership near me is heavenly, still have to go to Kia and Hyundai to take a look and I’m dreading it.

Good for you to walk out and stick to your principles, that’s all we have sometimes!
