• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 2020 Telluride AWD rear end jerking thumping and vibrating

I am thinking the rear driveshaft vibrating off the vehicle at freeway speeds would be pretty catastrophic

Jun 19 build date, 1300 miles, SXP AWD, I sat in the front, second and third rows on the highway today, radio off, and I don't hear or feel any vibration as described. The third row felt a little bumpy in the seat back at times. How noticeable is the vibration? Where do you hear it the most? Do you feel it?

Since this thread has over 270 posts it seems this is more than an arbitrary problem "for a couple of bad luck Telluride owners."

I am giving the benefit of the doubt that the problem exist for some, but not all 270 posts are about people have the issue. Many of them, including myself, are reporting they have no vibration issues.

We have two clues, out of balance driveshaft and/or defective transfer case. Since the rear driveshaft was taken off one vehicle and the vibration went away, this is a pretty significant development.
Solution: Inspect any AWD Tellurides with the vibration problem, and repair/replace these defective parts as necessary.

In order to do that, they must first identify the exact source of the problem — shaft, U-joint, transfer case, or other — and if the problem part came from a single or multiple vendors, and then identify a source for good replacements and get enough inventory of those replacements to repair the affected vehicles. It’s not an easy or quick process.

I picked up my EX AWD the Saturday before last and noticed the same vibration and low pitched hum at 70mph as soon as hit the freeway. It was too late to take it back that day and I wanted to investigate further myself having been a noise and vibration engineer in a previous life. Dropped it back at the dealer yesterday and am now in a Sorento loaner while they diagnose. I'll keep you updated as things progress. Build date was July 18 by the way.

Is this vibration felt or only heard?

Also, how do you determine build date?

Albert Ruiz - Any updates from Atlanta??? Not heard from you here in a while.
Im Actually compiling a list of all on this forum who have the same issue and what has been done. It seems clear that it is an issue in the Transfer Case. I am dropping mine off tomorrow night for a Tuesday appointment. I was very much hopping this issue would have had an easy fix. I will give this info to my service manager. If not resolved soon I too will be looking for them to replace it with a new one or a refund. Our Lemon Law in Georgia is 3 tries to correct the issue.
I will keep you posted.

I was just catching up on the tread. At the same time I was compiling a list of all that have this issue and what has been done. It is pretty clear that it’s a Transfer Case issue.

Albert, sorry to hear it's your transfer case as it was with mine.

Albert, how soon after purchase did your vibration start? How many miles did you put on your Telluride before it was determined the transfer case was shot?

With mine, the vibration was there from day two when I first had the truck up above 60MPH. Because I was away for five days, I didn't get the truck in to the dealer until after I put 800+ miles on it.

Thanks...

Albert, what is the breakdown of owners on this thread with the "vibration/transfer case" issue?

My wife drives it and she noticed it during the first week. She wasn’t sure if it was the road condition doing it. I noticed it a few days later during a road trip we took to Orange Beach. This will be the third time to the dealer for this issue. They have not determined the Transfer Case is bad on mine yet. I have suspected it to be in the drive shaft and after reading all that you guys have been through I’m pretty confident I will have the same issue.

It seems like 13 for sure. The number might be higher. There were some others that had vibrations also but they didn’t seem to meet the criteria of being AWD and between around 65 to 75 mph.

Plus the other bad trucks the dealers have found since we've brought attention to it. Again, mine has at least three more on their lot plus my truck they did not know about.

Other posters' dealers have found more bad ones in their stock as well.

This forum has been the driving force behind the discovery and, hopefully, the cure.

Thanks goes to Albert for starting this thread!

I just hope we are all able to get this issue resolved in a way that makes everyone of us happy.

in regards to the vibration issue, there are some AWD's without issues. I have SX AWD that now has 35,000 trouble free miles.
Ah, another unicorn! Lol. Rebel, what is your build date, please? Thank you.

***End of the line for me***

So the service manager and the dealership's owner took the truck I tested Saturday out this morning. Now it had the same exact noise and vibration at the same speeds as my original, etc. Even my sales guy felt it and said he'd never buy or sell a vehicle with this issue.

The service manager and owner both told me they felt nothing, it drove great and when I mentioned the salesman felt it, the owner said, "he doesn't know anything about cars." So I am a liar as is the salesman??? My wife knows nothing about cars and she felt it in ours. Is she a liar, too?

The owner told me his Kia rep has zero reports of this problem. My dealer has at least three bad trucks in his lot, but the only one he now acknowledges is the one I bought.

I'm furious over the stress and wasted time and energy I've put in to this. Oh, and then to basically be called a liar by the owner and service manager was the icing on the cake.

My wife and I will be going down today to cancel the sale, get our money back and our trade-in.

Run away from Kia if you are having this vibration issue. If you have a solid Telluride, I hope you have years of trouble-free motoring.

Also, don't forget my truck's transfer case was toast after less than 900 miles!

What a shame, because we truly loved this vehicle.

ColMo - I spoke to Sue in service at your dealer (before I spoke to mine this morning). She was great and informative. I hope they find someone to balance your driveshaft.

I spoke to the driveshaft shop out by me. As long as he has the chucks that will accommodate the ends of a Telluride shaft, he can balance it. He won't know this until he has a Telluride shaft in hand.

Unfortunately, I'll never know.

If it comes down to your dealer having to ship the driveshaft out, the shop's information is:

Mr. Driveshaft
5134A West Hurley Pond Rd.
Wall, NJ 07719
(732)938-4128
Speak with Joe.

They've been around forever and know their stuff.
