Dealer Markup

I have an idea, that by Mid January they will be begging you to buy

It's August and I've been waiting for my purchase since early June. I called every single KIA dealer in the Dallas / Fort worth Texas metroplex and I was told I'd have to place an order. Some dealers were asking for a non refundable deposit of $1,000 -- others wanted a credit card refundable hold deposit of $500. I finally ran into an honest sales person who explained to me what is going on. He informed me that their dealer does not mark up the price, they do not cash your check (the refundable $300), and that once you build one over the phone or in person, your order gets sent to Kia. I build an SX Prestige AWD snow white. Once my order had an estimate of October, I was told that if anyone canceled their order that they would call me since I was now on the wait list. Come to find out that my lucky day was August 9th. Donovan had called me and informed me someone backed out of an SX Prestige AWD that was also snow white. I came in, got my vehicle appraised in less than 10 minutes, and I signed all the paperwork. I received a nice incentive that discounted it off the MSRP since I leased 36 months/15K miles. My daughter loved my car and she wanted one as well. I reached out to Donovan and told him that I would be interested in a base model and that I would be financing this one. He informed me that they have a sangria one and I am currently on my way to purchase it. I wonder who else is getting that AWD Snow white prestige that's coming in October from Donovan over at Huffines Kia Corinth since I canceled mine?

Great dealership, I agree.

All the dealers in the SF Bay Area and LA Area are charging anywhere between $2k - $6k mark up above the MSRP. I called a dealer in Houston, TX and they are not doing that. CA is the only state that it is charging extra for this car. I guess is the law of supply and demand.
Nope New Jersey is doing it also even our surrounding states ! I was willing drive 4 hours! Now I will be driving 10 hours to Muncie sad part is I hate to even use these dealers for service at this point but Muncie will be too far for that! Lol My dealer that I have bought 3 cars from is marking up so I certainly will not even use them for an oil change! They are not thinking long term for their business it will leave a bad taste for their loyalty customers. I have been driving Kia for years and waiting for this vehicle for at least 2. Thought it was working out my lease was up and am planning on buying now I have to extend lease till mine comes in. They kept calling me every time something similar to mine came in . Then I got desperate and was willing to settle only to find a markup! I said no way and started looking at other vehicles nothing compared even the palisade that is supposed to be just like the telluride..then I found Jason from Muncie ......no I have to just wait it out.

I had ordered one from a local dealer here also. One I had bought 6 cars from in the last 8 years. Always got a great deal. I waited 4 months for my vehicle and when it got here, they put a 10K markup on it. I said no, the manager came out and said, oh, we didn't realize it was you, so he went and lowered the markup to 6500, I laughed in his face and said I'll go elsewhere. They have lost a customer for life and now Muncie has gained one. When it's time for another, Muncie will get first dibs on my business.. my local dealer may have made a few grand extra on this one sale, but have lost any future sales and service from me, so they have lost in the long run. Some dealers are short sighted and go for the quick buck now, and others are looking for long term clients who will sustain them in the long run and those are the ones I prefer.

I would have walked as well. Not to hijack the thread but how do you like your Stinger GT2? I have a 2009 Pontiac G8GT that has over 100,000 miles and I have been mulling over selling my Pontiac and and an a rare 1998 1LE SS Camaro and buying a Telluride and a Stinger. I have driven the Telluride and it will be mostly my wifes car but I have not test driven a Stinger. My G8 has 368hp so they should be similar in performance.

I love my Stinger GT2.. The tech is awesome of course, has most the same stuff as the Telluride. The 8 speed is very smooth and helps it shoot like a rocket. So far, I haven't had any problems with it besides the rotors pulsating which they replaced under warranty. The rotors and pads are the only weak part of this car and will probably just go aftermarket and get some performance pads with drilled and slotted rotors anyway. I have the AWD and put some all seasons on it for the winters here and it does very well in the snow. As far as the power, it is similar in numbers for the Pontiac, but the torque comes earlier and is a wider curve.. the book says it goes from 1300-4700 RPMs but I find it closer to 2k-5k it pulls like a scalded dog. The launch control is ok, but could be better. There is a $10 mod out there that can let you launch on more boost and cut that 60 down by a bunch, but don't think I want to do that until the warranty is closer. Usually I give in before that happens, so we shall see...lol I have a Mustang as in my pic, she's mostly looks as she's a FBO 6, but keeps up with most GTs. Being a convertible though makes her our weekend fun car.

Thanks for the detailed reply. I have had rotor problems with my Pontiac as well over the years. I am gonna go by a local KIA dealership and drive a new Stinger GT1 RWD. Also want to listen to difference between HK and Base Stereo on the Tellurides. Are the Harmon Kardon stereos the same within the Stinger and the Telluride?

Stinger has a 15 speaker system with subs under both front seats... The HK sounds extremely good in the Stinger..one of the best stock systems I have ever heard. Don't know about the Telluride as I haven't heard it yet but has less speakers, so the sound might not be quite as good.

I went to see the Telluride for the first time today. The dealership I went to, which will remain nameless, didn’t use a standard markup, but added over $3,000 to the MSRP with items such as security system, nitrogen filled tires, and a paint/fabric protection. Needless to say, I won’t be buying from them if they don’t remove those charges. I can wait another 2-3 years when my next lease is done to take a look.
Hello us here at Barnett Kia are not marking and wont be marking up our Tellurides. Please let me know if i could be of any help?

Cerritos CA marked the Telluride SX $12k. They were going for $55k
All the the ones at Cerritos Kia are marked up the lowets being $41k and highest like you said 55k, nice car wrong price lol smh

maybe not the dealership you shopped in Houston but I dealt with a Houston dealer who tried to up charge the base SX by $10,000. All over the State of Florida they are marking up the vehicle as well. Definitely not exclusive to California
We can’t find a dealer in FL who doesn’t have a markup less than $1995 PLUS a few thousand more for things we don’t want. May go with a VW Atlas as they seem more interested in earning a new customer.

I have an Atlas, super car, no problems, limited interior colors it seems, I have a white with beige, very nice, you must go top of the line to get ventilated and heated seats, not sure about retracting mirrors and memory seats, mine is the 4motion w/tech and it only has heated seats and the power seating is only for the driver

If we can be of any help ordering a Telluride for someone please contact via email. Below MSRP through the Costco Auto Program.
