AC Leak. AC Issues

I had a Subaru that also had a rock take out the condenser. Kia should be responsible for their poor design. It's not a new revelation that rocks can get kicked up.

Can your auto insurance pay for it if it was indeed a rock that damaged the condenser? I would still imagine a deductible is still unpleasant, but better than the full repair costs.
I'm currently in that process. Not cool on KIAs part still. I'm hearing that some folks insurance companies have denied this same claim. We shall see how it goes. Escalating this also since I was not satisfied with their response.

I am curious if there is a specific place that it is getting though if something could be fashioned to take the impact.

Can someone post a picture of the front end, showing the condenser? Thanks.

I want to start off by saying my wife and I really like this SUV. We waited and did our research before we bought the Telluride S model. Well, we have 400 miles on it and the AC started blowing hot air and gray smoke came out from under the engine and it smelled like Freon. Well its been at the KIA dealership all day and they got back to me saying there is a leak in the AC and have to wait for the KIA engineers to get back to them. It's new and we understood there might be some issues but this sucks. We only had it for 7 days. My question to you is: Have any of you had issues with the AC? Thank you in advance I will keep you up to date.
Be careful. I was told that my condenser was cracked due to a rock hitting it. They want $1400 to fix it. I refused to pay and filed a grievance with KIA HQ. I also called my insurance and made a comprehensive claim which will cost me $100. Much better than $1400. Good luck!

We were just told a rock put a hole in the AC line and it is not covered on the warranty so it will be a $2,000 fix. It's been driven on the Highway, granted there rocks on the highway. So frustrated!
File a comprehensive claim with your insurance like I did. A $100 deductible is better than $2000. Also file a grievance with KIA HQ’s. They need a recall on this to better protect the condenser. Good luck!

Same battle in my end. My insurance covered it under a comprehensive claim. I am waiting to hear back from KIA HQ’s before I use my insurance. This constitutes a recall and redesign. Don’t give up, they owe us as owners.

I recently spoke to the Consumer Assistance Center about my claim on my 2020 Telluride SX. It took 3 days and if I did not call them, I may of never heard from them. I asked for a possible recall to reinforce the condenser since this seems to be an ongoing issue with other consumers. KIA did not even request the part to further investigate. I believe the warrantee should cover this sensitive item. In advance I filed a compressive claim with my insurance. GEICO will cover the damage. No one at any level during this process even suggested filing it with my insurance. They must fix this issue. I am tempted to give my vehicle back and hire an attorney.

guys,
Kia has released a great car and to beat competitors at a price they have to squeeze somewhere, save. Here is a striking example - thin aluminum that easily breaks through. As long as the Kia decides, install the mesh in the radiator grill to protect it.

Update on the AC issue, so after 3 rounds of talking with KIA Consumer reps, I was told that since it was caused by a rock puncturing the condenser, it is not covered under warranty and it is my responsibility to pay 1400 to have it fixed on a vehicle less than a year old. I informed them that others are having the same issue, they said they were not aware. I told them that they have a recall going on the windshield since they crack if a pebble hits it, why isn't this the same? She hung up one me. Damn....I really liked my Telluride til now.
They have started behaving like GM..hmm

File a comprehensive claim with your insurance they covered mine and it’s a lot better than paying $1400 I even had a case number at corporate try to fight it and they denied it

My A/C condenser (2000 Toyota Sienna) was replaced last July so when it didn’t work this spring I took it back in. They noticed the freon (or whatever the coolent is these days)had leaked out and assured me that if the leak was in the condenser it would be replaced under warranty. They found a hole in it and claimed it must have been hit by a rock and therefore, though the part would be covered, I’d have to pay labor and for the freon, almost $500!

So my NX stopped cooling a few days ago (air blowing, but not cooled).

Brought it into the dealer and basically there's a huge hole in the AC condenser and all the freon leaked out.

Service advisor said that it's damage and so not covered under warranty.

She went on to to say that a rock or piece of cement probably flew in through the grill and smashed into the condenser.

She said that it's not common but she's seen it before.

Anyway, the repair/replacement cost for the condenser, freon and labor is going to be upwards of $1400

My 2nd Fit...love the car...or did.

2011 LX. 1760 km...I turn on the A/C for the first time and nothing but warm air. Take it in...service rep tells me, before it even get's into the bay....might be a rock in the condenser, not warranty. Okay, I'm apprehensive...every car I've ever owned has had AC...never heard of this before.

Sure enough, apparently 'something' has caused a small ding in the front of the condenser...sitting right in out in the open, nothing to protect it. I can stick my fist through the bumper/cowling...just nice big gapping holes. Brilliant.

So...what happen's when I pay 800.00 to replace and then a month later have the same thing happens again?

I just wanted your opinion. So it's been hot the last couple of days so I turned on my A/C. Well it was blowing out hot air. Took my camaro into the dealership and they said it's not covered under warranty due to a rock causing damage to the condenser and will cost $1200 to fix

There's plenty more with a simple google search. Seems like it's not a Kia issue, but just a bad luck issue. Good luck though in your quest with your attorney. I think it will be an uphill battle.

Custom grill is an interesting idea. Would we need to make three separate grill covers or is the condenser only on the upper/lower portion? I wonder how much mesh covers would disrupt air flow for proper condenser cooling as well.

better to close everything. but you can only middle and bottom, I'm 99% sure that all the damages were at the level of the bottom slot. cooling: I’m not a car engineer, I’m an aircraft engine engineer, but I can say with great confidence that it will not affect. behind the radiators there is a fan that turns on / off, or stands on the couplings and constantly turns depending on the engine speed (I don’t know exactly which option is in telluride). and so, if the free stream is not enough, which I doubt, the fan will help.

I am having some fabricated to minimize this happing again. KIA Corporate was no help and refused to cover the $1400 the KIA services quoted me. I took this issue as far as I could on the telephone. I asked for a look or possible recall to protect future investors in the Kia telluride.

I really like Kia and Hyundai. They should surely do a recall for this issue. They simply need to put a mesh to cover up the open parts.
