• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Remote start

I sent them an email to see what they might be willing to offer. Suggested a coupon code for forum members to make it easy.

I'll post their reply when received.

Registered just to post that if we all can get in with a group deal, I am down! I’m curious how well the smartphone app works compared to uvo though.

My biggest complaint about the UVO App is slowww. I watched couple videos about the phone app they sell which is carlink and smart start. They both have some pretty cool features. I might try it for a year and see if it is worth it. Still thinking about it.

Dumb question. Is there third party software that you could replace UVO with that does the same thing?

I looked last October when I got my telly and I didn't find anything. All I found was no way. I did find on older Kia's to install third party apps.

Was wondering the same.......I mean given today's tech savy folks and the fact that the vehicle is capable of receiving a remote command that WILL start it, I am pretty sure somebody could analyze the system and produce a device that would replicate the signal.

I hope to goodness you are wrong. If a third party can start your vehicle, what's stopping a curious person from starting your car?

Exactly. Nowadays, we cant trust anyone when it comes to things like this. Advanced technology may seem great, but it comes with a whole lot of bad, too.

Btw, do you guys know if paying $600, more or less, is worth paying for the remote start? My dealership told me that i'd have to pay around that price range if i wanted to have a remote start installed on my 2020. They also said that the 2021 key fob and its capabilities for the remote start. A friend of mine (he has an 18 mustang) also paid the same thing when he want to bestbuy to get a remote start. Does the $600, more or less, make sense for this?

It could be a regional thing but $600 sounds kind of high. I believe other forum members have paid about $300.

I am down with a group purchase as well! I guess I fell victim to an unscrupulous sales rep or just uneducated because I was told remote start and UVO were included for the life of the vehicle. Guess not!! Darn it.

Exactly....your response is one that I hoped would show up! That's what's scary about the whole "UVO cloud sourced" concept.....when you tell the UVO app to start your car, the start signal is coming from THEIR server to your car. I much prefer a direct signal from my fob to the vehicle , less chance of a "hack". All of that said.....the only time I have remotely started any of my vehicles has been in the winter to warm 'em up and help get the Ice/snow moving off.....given the cost of getting a direct remote start system installed, I think I will go back to the "old school" method of just going out and starting it up!!😁

What if your car remote start controller unit has something similar to IMEI for cell phones. Then you can just swap your remote start provider like you would cell phones with a service provider. That would be pretty cool, just hop to the cheapest provider when the annual plan runs out.

It really does not matter. If they want it, if they really want it, they can take it. Even if your car does not come with remote start, you would be surprised how many will start remotely.

You would be god smack how many cars that require a key can be started with out the key remotely. It is quite scary.

I was at a conference last year in which a Tesla was put up to be hacked. You opened it they would give you a discount on the car, you started it they would let you have it. The keys for the Tesla was not even in the same country. It opened started and drove off in under 20 minutes from the start of the competition. The actual attack took less then 30 seconds. And Tesla's' are considered hard to get into by most standards.

If you have any type of transmitter in your car that can receive a signal, you have a window cracked open. If you leave your vehicle out of your sight for 10 seconds, any good hacker can drive it away with out being in it. Not joking, they can just slip in place a fob on your obd 2 port and they then can start it up, and remote drive it away.

Almost all new cars can be remotely stopped now. Hackers can send a kill code to your car, then wait until you walk for help, pull up, open the door and drive off.

In terms of security, all car manufactures are playing with 2020 technology with 19th century security. They get away with it because hackers will only take x percentage of cars a year and most cars are covered by insurance.

One day in the future though, you could see a person wanting to rob a bank, hacking all cars in a 5 mile radius to crash into each other and then escaping by simply walking away. It is completely possible to do right now, just have to get someone that really wants to do it.

I was at defcon a few year ago. A guy that worked for a security agency set up a camera and wireless listening center at his work. With security experts. In 3 days he could start everyone car remotely, he made copy keys of all the keys on everyone key rings including car keys, including physical home keys, and even managed to get a copy of all the keys to his building.

How? Every time someone would take out their keys, the camera ai would lock on an take pictures. He would then index the key from the pictures to make a copy. The wireless listening station just recorded all the signals between fob and car. After 3 days he could copy their signal.

PS if you want to prevent anyone from taking a picture of your key ring, get key organizer and keep the teeth pointing in.

Once again, if they want to, they can. There is very little you can do about it.

True story Ramsey has already done it. I seen it.

it gets really weird when you look at some of the stuff that is predicted. Simpson's trump election.

Jules Verne predicted that Americans would get to the moon first launching from florida in 1865. If you want to go down that rabbit hole google moon gun by jules verne. He got the shape right, he got the size right, he was with in 150 miles of the real launch site. He was very close to distance and time.

Bottom line for me......I cannot prevent " superior tech bad folks" from doing what they will do, but I can make things more difficult.......I will not subscribe to UVO or other various "tracking apps I keep the fobs for my cars in what are referred to as "Faraday bags" ....they are named after Michael Faraday and prevent casual drive by hackers from accessing your fobs and opening your cars. I refuse all offers for "remote this or that".......here's the one thing that WILL prevent ALL, but I don't do it ( yet!): open the hood , disconnect the battery.....nothing will happen! That being said....I would love to have a "breaker pull switch" on my car!

Received a "sort of" reply today... said they were going to do something, but weren't specific as to what...

If we were to get a bunch of people with T-rides from 2 forums to do a group buy, would there be any special pricing available? My thought is you create a 'coupon code' that can be communicated to forum members... There are already about 9 people who have expressed interest...

Your thoughts?

The question was whether you have considered a coupon code for Telluride forum members offering some type of special pricing?

Guess we need to wait to see what and when anything happens. Going to give them the 3 weeks - so my next follow up will be 7/15. I'll post an update when I hear anything.

🤞
