Dealer Markup

I have attached a couple of pictures from the exterior and the interior and I will try to send a few more this evening when I get home and have access to my WiFi Network at home 🙂.
And a fellow VA Telly seeker to boot! Congratz. It looks fantastic.

Well damn, I had been all over those "colors of the Telly" threads and completely missed it. Thank you!

edit: Hmmm, non-Nightfall looks great on this combo...hope I didn't make a mistake getting Nightfall on it.
I believe the Dark Moss with the Dune Brown interior with the Prestige package is a great combination as it comes with the dark headliner which looks really good. I like the regular SX rims better than the Nightfall rims personally as I think the black rims really set the Dark Moss color and really go well with it but just my opinion🙂.

Yep, thats my top pic but I'd rather have something sooner than waiting many months. I agree tho, the normal trim looks great on that dark moss.

I do agree with you that any Telluride sooner is better than waiting many months and the Nightfall is not all that bad. What part of Virginia are you in as I hope it is not in the Northern Virginia area with the mostly $10K markups for the SX Telluride?

Yep, NoVA :) I had my rude awakening already though, and have a Moss / Black (because of toddler) on hold, possible arrival mid sept. MSRP from out of state so I'll be paying shipping but its better than paying 6-10K markup.

I'm the opposite. I'd rather wait a little bit to get exactly what I wanted. We do have to look at these things for years. I can see not wanting to wait if you have a pressing need for a vehicle though.

I get what you mean - it's more of an indecision thing on my part. Both look good to me, I saw the moss / nightfall in person and it looked really slick but after seeing this moss / non-Nightfall...good to have choices. The interior indecision is related to folks saying sometimes the lighter seats are harder to keep clean (or rather show jeans dye rubbing off, kids messes, etc a lot more). 1st world problems basically.

The below VIN was created 2 weeks ago and is listed on the dealer's website as coming soon in their inventory so it appears to not be a sold unit right now because it is in the Nightfall package and is an SX with no Prestige package or Towing Package. It is Ebony Black with Black Leather interior and this dealership is in-state (VA) about 4 to 4.5 hours away from you in Northern VA and they do sell at MSRP with my discussions with them when I was looking to order but I ended up ordering with my dealer in Salem, VA.

Much appreciated. I do have a Moss / Black / Prestige / Nightfall locked in right now (out of state, MSRP + ship). Just curious what's going to happen in the next week or so when Aug. rolls around. Thank you again!

I went to see the Telluride for the first time today. The dealership I went to, which will remain nameless, didn’t use a standard markup, but added over $3,000 to the MSRP with items such as security system, nitrogen filled tires, and a paint/fabric protection. Needless to say, I won’t be buying from them if they don’t remove those charges. I can wait another 2-3 years when my next lease is done to take a look.
One dealership wants a non-refundable deposit and is charging $7-8k over MSRP. Salesman at old me it was an “Addendum”, that theirs was better than other dealers, and that this dealer had no control over it. I bought a Mercedes GLC300 three days later.

Sounds like a dealer to stay away from.

Rockville MD wanted 5K markup. For that price, you can get the Acura MDX which is a much nicer car. Or save 5-10K and get the Subaru Ascent, which has better safety ratings. No KIA is worth that.

Cerritos CA marked the Telluride SX $12k. They were going for $55k
I see you went to the same place I did. Test drove 2021 SX. When I got done, my wife said this costs 62 thousand? I said no way, it should be around 49 with the included stuff. Sure enough, it was 62 and change. I had to laugh. They have plenty on the lot and now I see why. I want one, but with Georgia plant back up and running, I can wait until either this dealership comes back to reality or shop somewhere else. Not that much in a rush.

MDX has color combination limitations, cabin not as large, and no captain's chairs option that I can see.

All the dealers in the SF Bay Area and LA Area are charging anywhere between $2k - $6k mark up above the MSRP. I called a dealer in Houston, TX and they are not doing that. CA is the only state that it is charging extra for this car. I guess is the law of supply and demand.
I just went to my local dealer in Tuscaloosa Al and they said ALL DEALERS were adding a 5000.00 markup. Needless to say I purchase a different vehicle. Thats price gouging and shouldn't be allowed! They said they were doing it because they knew they could get it. Maybe they can....but it won't be from me! Actually, I'll will probably NEVER even consider purchasing a KIA of any kind again!

Most dealers in NJ are marking the SX up $10,000 or more over msrp. I was pretty taken off guard but was able to talk them down a little but and talked up my trade-in nearly 4k so it came out to like 4k over msrp. Which I feel ok with. I ended up getting Gravity Grey, Grey interior, Nightfall & Towing package.

Which dealer in NJ did you order from?

I didn't order one, they had some in stock. It was Cherry Hill
I see even I talked to the sales manager there and he told me they have to charge me markup so I let it go. If you would have inquired in this forum you would have found dealer in NJ selling at MSRP.

Anyways congrats on your Telluride! Do share some pics if you can. :)

Its not limited by state, we have saw NJ dealers charging $20K over MSRP. I have two dealers within 10 miles of me in Maryland, one is charging over MSRP, once is matching kia.com dollar for dollar. If the dealer is charging extra, just look for another dealer.
I live in Delaware, the dealership are charging 5000 over and I had a dealership in PA try to charge me 8,000 over msrp in a telluride lx...
