• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I may be getting dumber, but I cannot find any worthwhile info on texting. I can send a text from my phone and the reply comes up on the touch screen, but whenever I try to send one of pre-programmed texts I get a message "Text not sent." It doesn't seem to matter if I am driving or parked with the shifter in park. I gave up on Android Auto as it does not support Message+ or Google message. It only wants to display Google maps or Poweramp.

An update. My Pixel 3 is the phone I am using on the Telluride. It worked just fine on my 2014 4Runner Limited. Yesterday I tried my wife's Samsung S8+ and it worked just fine. So unless I hear anything else I am going to assume that the problem is with the phone and not the Telly.

What about if you try using Google Assistant by pressing and holding the voice command button on your steering wheel to send a text?

Thanks for the idea. I'll give it a try.

My wife is using a pixel, we don't have the Telluride yet but I do know she hasn't been receiving text messages since a software update on her phone. Maybe it's related, maybe not. I have been trying to get her to come back to the iPhone lol.

I can't use Google assistant very well because I live in the rural mountains of western Maine and cell service is worse than spotty. During the 43 mile drive to the town with the nearest traffic light I only have cell service for about 20 miles and even that comes and goes.

I talked to my local (2 hours away) Kia dealer's Bluetooth "expert" and he told me that I had to use Android Auto. I asked him how that would help with selecting automatic text replies from the Telluride's video screen and he admitted that he had no idea. I did load up Android Auto, which required an update to the Google App, but I could not not reply to a text using the preprogrammed messages. As soon as I get a response from Kia as to why all I see is a graphic of a car cutting doughnuts in the middle of the screen when I try to log into the Kia Users site I will question them about this.

I did find that Android auto is built into Android version 10 and above. I suspected that this is why the text reply function does not work with my Pixel which is Android 11. But the Pixel does do text replies over Bluetooth on vehicles that are not Android Auto compatible. I tried disabling AA on my phone but that didn't work. I also turned off AA in the Telluride but that didn't work either. And the adventure continues.....

@backwoodsbill, Google Assistant shouldn’t require internet service to work just for sending a text message. As long as you have cell reception it should allow you to send a regular SMS text. It’s only using the phone’s processing power to transcribe voice dictation to text. If you have no cell reception in the location you are driving, it is not possible to send texts at all, even direct from your phone.

Don’t rely on the pre-written response messages if it isn’t working. Just press and hold the voice command button on your steering wheel until Google Assistant activates, not UVO. (You may need to used the USB data connection to your phone if bluetooth doesn’t work for you.)

Say “Send a text message to [name]” then immediately followed by “I’ll call you when I get home.”

In terms of the Kia owner’s site not working, if you are parked in an area that does not have strong enough signal for cellular internet service, the UVO connect features will not be able to load info about your car or remote start.

My question would be: if you don’t have cell service, how are you sending a text message anyway?

Haha! I've never seen it described that way but it definitely made me laugh.

I do have cell service and the latest version of Android 10 and Android Auto on my phone and haven't been able to get UVO to send text responses to my phone to be sent out, whether connected via Android Auto or bluetooth. It should work...but it isn't. Not sure whether it's my phone or UVO or what. I know Android Auto has been buggy for years and Google just started tacking some long standing issues. Hopefully it gets worked out soon.

After going back and forth with Kia I sent the following letter to Kia and my dealer. My dealer (over 2 hours away) called me this morning and they want to completely wipe the computers involved (they told me that there is more than one) and reload everything from scratch. I told them they could do it when I come in for my next service. Besides, it's hunting season where I live (it snowed last night) and I've wasted enough of my time on this issue for now.

Thank your for your reply. As Android Auto is built into the Pixel3’s operating system it cannot be deleted. There is an option to disable Android Auto, but that did not fix the problem. Since I am able to reply to texts with the Pixel3 connected by Bluetooth to other automobiles I question that the phone is at fault. To replace the operating system on the Pixel3 with a pre-Android Auto version would be extremely time consuming . I am extremely busy this time of year and it will be weeks before I have the free time to do this. Also I spent almost $50,000 on the Telluride and do not feel that it is my responsibility to find the cause of this problem as I am using a mainstream cell phone.

I am also sending a copy of this email to my salesperson at Charlie’s Kia in Augusta Maine.

Below is a synopsis of the issue.

Texting issues with 2021 Kia Telluride SX with the Prestige package

The problem is that after receiving a text message using Bluetooth and pressing the reply button which brings up a list of quick replies and selecting a reply and pressing the send button a message comes up the says “Message Not Sent.”

The phone is a Google Pixel 3 running Android 11 which has Android Auto built into the Operating System. Android Auto works fine between the Pixel3 and the Telluride. It does not have the ability to use pre-installed replies.

Using a 2019 Toyota Rav4 or a 2014 Toyota 4Runner which have a similar interface for replying to text messages the replies were sent while using the Pixel 3. Neither of these vehicles supported Android Auto.

Using a Samsung S8+ connected to the Telluride replies to text messages were also sent. The S8+ does not support Android Auto.

The Pixel3 does have the option to disable Android Auto. After doing this, replies to texts still were not sent.

I have updated the software to the lastest version. (living in rural areas is fun. It took over 5 hours to download.)

Hi BWB. Picked up a Telluride today, and seem to have the same issue. Will keep checking back here in hopes that one of us has found a solution. I'm running a Pixel 5.
