2020 Telluride AWD rear end jerking thumping and vibrating

Plus mine is like butter. Smooth like room temp butter until you get to like 55mph that's how I know for fact something suspect is going on.

Hey all, I just got a new 2021 EX Wolf Gray Nightfall AWD. Car is absolutely gorgeous and is turning heads all over the NYC streets!

I do have some concerns though. I’m coming from a Durango RT with a hemi so I knew going in the Telluride is going to feel different and more polite. However right away I noticed that I feel a lot of feedback through the gas pedal and floorboard. My girl in the passenger seat says it feels smoother than the Durango so maybe it’s just the driver side. I also feel like the brake pedal is a little wobbly when you move your foot to it.

I’ve read a bit on this thread and my issue is constant, not just at 70ish mph, it honestly feels a bit smoother at higher speeds that driving around town. I just feel every single bump, unevenness, etc in the road through the pedal and it’s driving me nuts. Is that just how the Telluride drives? My tires are at 46 psi so I’m going to lower that and check. Thanks
Definitely too much air in tires.
You're not imagining the vibration. Most of of feel it between 60 to 75.
Good luck getting it fixed by Kia.

Day One: Rode with the Service Manager - he stated he definitely feels the vibration on multiple road surfaces.

We spoke about the Palisade TSB and he said that is a good resource however this more than likely feels like tire issues. More vibrating during a cold start, etc. etc. He mentioned Driveshaft issues have an iconic buzz or humming sound - for those that have gotten driveshafts replaced can you advise on what he may be talking about?

He is going to Road Force balance all of the tires and figure out what's going on...

The scary part...I believe they gave me a 2020 Sportage as a loaner - has the same vibrations during a similar MPH window.....

I am be SPEAKING way too soon right now but this might just be how their vehicles drive...?

Very possible. I think it’s important to note that some people are complaining of a “rumble” or “humming” at higher speeds and getting a vibration, which is described by many to be felt the most in the seat or thigh area. While others of us are curious about the vibration in the gas pedal, I have no vibration issues outside of the gas pedal. I brought this up in another thread and immediately was directed to this thread, which makes sense, but I was already well aware of this thread and I think the two issues most likely come from different sources. I’m no expert, just my two cents. I can say that I recently put some winter tires on and immediately after driving it home it seemed to feel better. But now, it feels the same to me and I would tend to agree, that typically the vibration in the pedal is worse after a cold start. It’s really more of a nuisance than anything. I don’t feel unsafe by any means but this thread with the driveshaft issues had me concerned it could be more. I already had the service manager drive it and said everything is normal and blamed the 20 inch rims for most of it but I’ve always had 20s on my suvs and have never felt that in the pedal. I’ll address it again at my oil change appointment but long story short...you may be completely right that this is how they drive. Problem is, I’d assume there would be a lot more complaints about road “feedback” in the pedal, I’m not sure how else to describe it. I’ll certainly be curious to see if anyone finds a solution.

What are the chances that Kia just bought a Sh*tty batch of tires and they are the ones catching heat for it?

That's what I originally thought...figuring maybe it was the Michelin tires. My winter tires are Conti Vikings...neither tire is a slouch and I know that typically you'd get a worse ride from a winter tire but I still have the same issue.

the gas pedal shaking would annoy the crap out of me to be honest...not to say that my ass and thighs shaking is fun but my pedal and steering wheels are fine.

They had given me a Sportage but I did not feel the vibration. Probably because the road noise was distracting me. lol
I've had 3 of their Sportage's and did not feel any vibration but I believe they are front-wheel drive which will feel every little pebble in the road.
I really think the T's have a vibrating issue and don't think it's our imagination.
That was the first thing they did to mine was a Road Force Test. This is Kia's pattern.
Mine is going this afternoon to Driveshaft Specialist and they will be keeping it overnight to perform their tests including a road test, observation from underneath the vehicle, and another Picoscope if needed. I should know something tomorrow late. I just hope it's an easy fix and not where one item results in having to replace everything for it to work right.
I have not heard anything back from Kia yet but did tell the dealership that I would not be selling them my vehicle until I find another one. They had two SXP's on their lot but it appears in the big cities, the dealerships are charging a hefty markup price which he called, Market
Adjustment. BS!!! They are marking these vehicles up to $7 to $10k because everyone wants one. Supply in demand so to speak.
I bought in a small town that did not have a Market Adjustment and found most of the dealers in smaller towns don't price gouge consumers.
I won't do that. To me, it's dishonest to do that to people and I refuse to give them my business. I guess if I buy another one, it'll be in a small town. lol
I wish you luck. Keep all your documentation from the dealership.

As the story goes they road forced balanced the wheels. Will ask the techs for a detailed explanation of what they found. Meaning did they need to add any weights, any tires out of round...did they rotate them too?

I love how they are like it's ready for pick up without going in depth. Guess that's common for any service manager trying to get rid of you.

Was Kia Teck Line there?
I dropped mine off today at the Driveshaft Specialist shop and should know something tomorrow on it.
I think I told you they road forced mine and replaced my right front tire. That's the process they go through. I'm sorry to sound so gloomy but it sounds like a de Javue.

No they called Tech Line before working. That is the normal protocol for the Telluride. SM said they can't freaking drill 2 more holes for my rear license plate because they would have to get Tech Line back on the phone. Talk about Kia being "tight" on this vehicle.

My SM was in his later years and highly experienced. He says when he talks to Tech Line they listen since he makes sense. He said the ultimate goal for him is to fix issues, period. Kia Tech Line normally doesn't get in his way because he pushes all of the facts.

Let's see.

Sending out a field rep to the Northeast would be nearly impossible.

I hope it works out.

^ That's the best description for what I was feeling. It was not really audible, just something I could feel in the seat when it kicked in. Felt like switching from a freshly paved road to a slightly gravely one.

Yep. Based on my experience, every single warranty repair on the Telluride has to go through techline for instructions. Mine started with road force balance as well, then moved on to road tests with the driveshaft disconnected (confirming the issue was there), which then led to several rounds of parts replacements. My repair turned out to be exactly what the Palisade TSB called for, only it took two driveshafts and two couplers to get it right.

Did they try telling you the road forced worked and you had to bring it back some time later and say look it's not gone?

They are asking me to pick it back up tomorrow which I'm OK with as I'll give them the benefit of the doubt but if I still feel it I'm bringing it right back.

Nervous to hear what a driveshaft specialist tells @Bev tomorrow...

No, the road force didn't fix anything so they held on to it, went back to techline, ordered parts, etc. They ended up holding on to it for 12 days (the first time).

I think you had the best dealer anyone could have asked for with this issue to be honest. Glad it fixed it!

Yeah, all things considered they've been really wonderful. I live 30 miles away and they do pickup/dropoff for me, and have brought out brand new Sorentos (2020) each time as a loaner. It has been annoying to have a total of 21 days in the shop, but they've really tried hard to make me feel valued and confident that they were giving this every bit of effort that they could.

If only they could fix my camera flicker...

I apologize in advance if this is a highjack....

My brand new 2021 EX Nightfall with AWD has a sort of "pulsing" going on in the rear end. It's not so much a vibration, although there might be a minimal amount. It's more of a sound, that increases with speed. It's present in some form at all speeds. It's not very loud, and the stereo and road noise drown it out.

The low tire pressure light tripped with a recent cold snap (Florida). I added a little air but now that it's warmed back up outside, the pressure is high. I'll drop the pressure to see if it has any effect.

Any other ideas?

Could it be your temporary paper plates flapping in the wind?

I had to nail down a weird/similar noise and found out it was my temp plates.

Thank you.

No, I have my permanent tag. I fear that it's related to the issue that others have had, but just not as severe. But then again, no noticeable vibration, even in the crucial 65 - 75mph range. Just sound.
