If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 2024 Telluride Recall -- ENGINE REPLACEMENT !!

Update to my message above this. Emailed and texted the dealer and manager of Port Charlotte KIA. No response for 6 hrs. I know Sat is busy day at the KIA dealer. At 3pm, I sent both a cancel order. Immediately got a response and guess what? The car I put a deposit is in the manufacture dates(10/24/2023) of the engine problems. My hunch was right and I was about to get boned by KIA of Port Charlotte Florida. Thanks you all who put up correct info. KIA knows about this problem and is letting dealers sell these cars anyway. I now have a bad taste in my mouth for the brand and sorry to those who enjoy your Telluride. It blows away the Pilot driving wise and really wanted one. Be careful out there. If anyone wants more info/ DM me. I will keep my membership for a week or so.

Good Morning. Brand new member here. I put a deposit on a 24 P X Pro yesterday. Kia of Port Charlotte in Fl. I wanted an Xline but saw dealer incentive group of X Pro's on lot up to 5,000 off list. Total sticker was $52,768. Now Im finding out about engine recall. I'm beginning to think maybe dealer knew and these cars being discounted. I searched VIN. No recalls at this time for mine. I looked at sticker for dates with no luck. Any advice you all can give?
Thanks, Joe
Look at the door jamb of the one that you are interested in for the date of manufacture. If it is not in the range of the recall, you are fine......

The fact that Kia will allow these engine recall vehicles to be sold, only to then lock the new customer into a months long process requiring forfeit of the vehicle and WITHOUT a guaranteed rental reimbursement is exactly why I will never buy a Kia ever again. I really love my Telluride and have had no issues thus far (23 SX X-line at 14k miles) but this company just completely leaves their customers for dead if there are any issues.

I was gonna buy one that was discount $4500 but I looked it up on CARMAX and it shows an open recall… NHTSA didn’t reflect this! When I called the dealer confirmed it was impacted by the recall and said they couldn’t sell it (then why is it still on their website?).They said it had such a high discount because it had an older manufacturing date KIA allowed them to give incentives to sell it (Sept thru November 2023). This date also happens to be the range when the recall issue occurred … You can decide if you believe this is all a big coincidence or not.

Just to clarify, if your vin doesn’t show as having a recall on Kia site or carmax, are you good? Mine was manufactured 11/7/23

That date is in the problem window. I would contact your dealer. Sad kia did this. Good luck.

Update on this disaster:
I got a call from my SA this morning. He said KIA is now allowing Service Centers to place "placement" orders for new engines sent to Dealerships. He told me he could place the order and I would be the 35th person to get a new engine. I said no, as I dont want to be the first guinea pig in their shop.
The other problem is they are extremely backlogged and have no estimate of delivery to the 2,900 vehicles expected. This sounds like a disaster in the making. My theory is the NTSB is going to step in and issue us all a full refund. The fact KIA is not telling us all to stop driving a vehicle who's engine could explode at any moment and possibly injure or kill people, is ridiculous.

“whose engine could explode at any moment and possibly injure or kill people”

I must have missed that part, I’ll have to watch more TV to see all the exploding engines killing people:rolleyes:

Here’s what will really happen…..it will stop working. Let’s not get fully hyperbolic it helps no one.

If you don’t want to accept the offered repair your choice is exactly one, sell the vehicle before it stops working, however, if the NTSB steps in as you hope, no one is buying until the repairs are made. That’s the law. Your suggestion that you would be a guinea pig is nonsense, while it may be the 35th Telluride engine replaced, engines have been replaced since engines were made. You are going to give yourself an ulcer over a car repair.

Edit to add: zero chance you or anyone else gets issued a full refund, that’s just not how this works, and by not getting the repairs you take away your options under the Lemon Law. Schedule your repairs immediately.

They have drugs that could help you with this.

Have you ever changed an engine? I'd guess not. It basically involves disconnecting a bunch of hoses and wires, then hooking the engine to a cherry-picker and removing a few bolts -- engine mounts, transmission, etc. Pull it out, then reverse the process with the new engine. Nothing complex or risky. I am too old and lazy to volunteer to change one of these engines but I would not be afraid to do it. I've done it a couple of times in street cars and many more times in race cars.

"possibly injure or kill" is a bit hyperbolic as is "explode.". If a valve spring breaks the associated valve may drop down and meet the piston. From there the valve head may break off and may damage the piston or the cylinder head face. Apparently at least one of the Kia failures involved a small hole in the block or head. None of this risks anyone's life. Consequences/aka driver error like running off the road and hitting something I guess could increase risk, but I think that's part of a very low probability and hypothetical error chain..

Reread @44Dan44's post #27 above. Nobody is going to give you a refund or a new car and the likelihood of your being inconvenienced by a broken valve spring is minuscule. Chill, man.. Chill.

Edit: NTSB doesn't issue refunds.

Lets try common sense for a moment, shall we? If the valve springs fail and sends everything into failure, causing the block to have holes in it, what do you think will happen to cars BEHIND you on the highway doing 75mph when 9 qts of oil are spread all over the road. The same is possible to YOU driving as well as rubber does not have any traction in an oil slick.
I suggest you become more educated. Go read the several Reddit threads on this. Several people have already had their engines blow holes through the block. A few resulted in major accidents.

Have you ever changed an engine?

Yes Boomer, I have. More than I can count. I was a C-130 Crew Chief for 13 years out of the 24 I served. I cross trained into Combat Communications after my Crew Dawg days. I have a lifetime A&P certification. Do you? Didn't think so.
Now go have a fresh Ensure, change your Depends and Shut Up.

First - If you have 9 quarts of oil in your Telly, you are a dumbass. Second - post links about major accidents from engine failure. I searched reddit and found none.

Hyperbole and name calling makes you a really, really, small person. What are you compensating for?

gladesteen is now blocked in my profile. I suggest the same for rest of you.

Shouldn’t be long now.
April 5th is when the official Safety Recall notices go out to 2,900 KIA Telluride Customers.
I contacted my NH AG office / Lemon Law rep today and he was SHOCKED to learn that KIA was allowing customers to drive around with engines that "might" effectively destroy themselves from a factory defect.
After I explained KIA is giving Z E R O guidance for us involved through this, he started taking things seriously.
Lets see what happens. I cannot be the only one with 777 miles and 4 months ownership who feels this way.

Is Kia going to supply loaner cars for affected owners of the engine valve problem?

Why no response about loaner cars while repairs made?
Because no one really knows. Dealer specific regardless of any guidance they may receive from Kia

Also loaner fleet is a money loser for dealers, they’d rather not have them.

Not being able to use your car is a money loser too. Not like I keep spares.
I really like the Telluride but may be my last, glad I leased. Will be watching to see how Kia handles this situation. Funny thing is I drove Acura MDX,s for the last 20 plus years with absolutely no problems, thought I’d try. something else for a change.
