• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Auto-Off

We almost had a disaster this past weekend. Had guest from out of town looking for a house. We were rushing from house to house as they were here for just 2 days. We pulled up to a house and parked in road in front of house. Lots of distractions going on. Hubby hit the button to open the back and it didn’t open. He opened the door and as he stepped out to see why, the front driver door still open, the car restarted and stared going forward. He ran jumped baked in and hit the break just short of crashing into a road sign. The car was off as he had his foot on break , didn’t realize it was still in drive. OMG panic mode hit us. If driver door is open it should automatically TURN OFF. Very dangerous situation. I hate that feature and now we will always shut it off immediately after starting car. Wish there was a choice to permanently leave it off. Lesson learned. Thank god he was quick enough.

Just curious because I’m having trouble envisioning this situation... but how did he get all the way out of the vehicle before it restarted? The moment you take your foot off the pedal the engine starts back up almost instantaneously. Glad no one was hurt and your Telluride is ok!

He stepped out it took a second &restarted, it was a bit hectic but it had a slight pause as he was Out do the vehicle when it restarted

That's the main reason why I turn on the "auto hold" feature every single time. Stuff like what you experienced is rare, but when it happens things could get really ugly.

I'm glad that no one was hurt. Huge lesson learned and thanks for sharing. I'll certainly keep this in mind.

Not sure that’s possible. However, there are conditions where Auto-stop will not engage, such as fan speed of greater than 3 or when you stop by lightly pressing on the brake pedal. Perhaps you are meeting those conditions?
Fan speed is irrelevant. My fan was on 5 and was still shutting off, ac on set at 72.

My husband did a test just out of curiosity. On our street which is a small side road, he put the break on and then opened the car driver door, as he waited just a moment the car started back up. I believe if the driver door opens it should stay off. Please if you are on a safe no traffic road try it and see if it happening in all. We are curious.

I fixed the problem

Sometimes my auto start button works and the car shuts off perfectly fine. The auto start light turns green when this happens. Other times the auto start light turns yellow and the car does not shut off.. anyone know why this happens ? Is something wrong ?

I. Notice that too when the AC is working harder in very hot temps.

IMO, this dumb function is not worth the .3 MPG that you save. Can anyone think of any negative affect of wedging something in there to hold the button down? Electrical contact or switch issue or something (not much electrical knowldege here) Just concerned of any long-term issue of keeping the button down. If no issues, I'm doing it!!

Certainly agree. The manufacturers are doing this to save $$ on fuel economy penalties. So it ends up costing us (the consumers) more money without actually helping anything.

It has become second nature, I get in the car, buckle up, start engine, hit the auto button. Automatic.

STUCK a piece of plastic card to hold the A-off down never have to worry about train no one the function will remain off all the time and after restart engine

Keeping coming back to the thread. You will find more and more stories of how the auto-off almost caused or caused an accident. Seeing how the auto-off can't be disabled the Telluride is then not for inexperienced drivers and non-regular drivers of your Telluride.
In older vehicles you could creep forward by just slightly letting your foot of the break as the idling engine was enough to creep forward. But not with the auto-off enable. It is now a lurking forward experience. KIA if you are reading this forum, this is your wake up call.

Here’s another scenario: one car household, both you and the wife carry the key, you both get in in the morning and drive away for work, you think your key’s in your pocket, but it's not, you were able to unlock and start the engine because your wife’s next to you with her key, you drop her off at her job and say goodbye, you go on your merry way to your job, at the next red light, the engine shuts off, light turns green... no key no engine restart and no go, you are now stranded at a busy intersection in rush hour traffic, like an idiot.

Edit: I believe the Tell is smart enough to sound an audible warning if the key has left the car... but still, this CAN happen.

Just MHO, so don’t get all defensive and bend out of shape please.

Yes, but just the first half and not the standed like an idiot at a busy intersection during rush hour part. I soon discovered I didn't have my fob before I drove away, and yes with the wife. 📢🦈

Just tested that with my husband in the car with the only fob in my pocket, hubby at the wheel...Not only is their an interior & exterior continuous warning sound the message fob is not in vehicle appears in the drivers display where mph etc is displayed. Started after being about 4 steps away from vehicle. But you got me to go test it LOL
