Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

I was recently trying to get a factory paint flaw corrected. Ourisman Kia in Alexandria, VA is my local dealer, but not the dealer I bought it from (5 hours away). Of course, I get the automated survey from Ourisman after I took it in last week for inspection (where the service manager openly told me they couldn't do any better to fix it) and I filled out the survey honestly and objectively. This morning they called to say they refused to work with me any further to remedy the problem because they didn't like how I responded to the survey. So, I would add Ourisman Kia in Alexandria, VA to the bad dealer list.

Huge Pet peeve about dealerships and how they try to game the system with there biased surveys. I have had salesman tell be straight to my face like they are going to cry if they don't get their 10's. And its usually poor or average service. You did the right thing and you saw how it helped you.

Gossett Kia South Memphis (Mt. Moriah, although they will sell you one at MSRP, they will put you through the ringer. Purchased ours last year in Nov 22'. Told them that I would use their financing and when it came back the rate was higher than USAA. Keep in mind that it was going to be only my wife on the loan. So she jumps on USAA and instantly gets a better rate. Oh but wait, they can't take USAA because it is not one of their lenders and they wouldn't get their money right then and there. Oh and wait you can't use the military discount because I am not on the loan when the military discount clearly says that your spouse can use it. This dealership is a joke. They took forever to get my paperwork to my DMV in AL which resulted in a late fee. They did not care to reimburse me for that fee. I finally get on the phone with the GM and tell him my experience and he then tells me that oh you can use the military discount. It is now March of 23' and I am just now getting my rebate from them for the military discount. I'm not saying by any means that I am trying to get a handout because I am in the military, but I would like to see is dealers honoring what they have on their websites and making sure everyone in the dealership is aware of their policies. Every time I would call and get an update either the manager (Jessie) or GM (Jeff) were out of town or not available. I would leave multiple messages with very rarely getting a call back. It took me to get in touch with the other Memphis dealership to get the issue resolved. My advice is that if you want to purchase from this dealership, please be sure to have your financing in order before you go and show up with a check from your financial institution or cash.

Dolan Kia finally has what was to be my Telluride (Wolf Grey fully loaded), but with taxes and required extras would be 58k. And they only offered 40k for my Highlander with 500 miles. I'll stick with Highlander (paid 49k including taxes and all) as it would cost me too much switch now.
I ordered a telluride from Dolan…. a 2022 finally arrived 16 months later when 2023’s were out, I passed. I ordered 2023 at Arapahoe in CO. Got it in FEB 23. Dolan swears they just charge MSRP, but they have minuscule allotment so no chance of delivery. I still have 2023 on order from Dolan but won’t take it if it arrives. Arapahoe had all paperwork done ahead, one thing to sign at pick up. Paid my plane fare and tank of gas. Great dealer, Love my car!!!!!

When I bought my 2022 Telluride in Oct.21'.......Kia advertised 1.9% financing on their website, for "well qualified" buyers. I have a 827 credit score. When I sat down to negotiate, I also told them that I would usually finance with USAA and /or my credit union. They never volunteered the military discount information of $400 off. I originally told them that I would use USAA at 2.3% and the salesman comes back and says ....we can match that 2.5% rate. I had to tell him to check his hearing. I went back home to get the 2nd set of keys for my trade in and the title. I then remembered the 1.9% offer from Kia. I took a cellphone picture off my computer and went back. He already had the paperwork filled out , everything except the final stuff with the finance officer. I told him to change it from USAA to Kia Finance at 1.9%.....he tells me that I don't qualify ! I tell him that he already said that my FICO score was exceptional. He asked for the title to be signed over to him and I told him, "no way". I will not be signing anything over until ALL the paperwork is approved by ME ! If I would have signed over the title BEFORE we were done.....he would have screwed me and my title would be now be in limbo. ALWAYS keep your title papers until you are completely satisfied. I traded my 2012 Suburban for 18k and found out they sold it for 30K !!! They also got me to pay $7000 over MSRP. I do love the car......but I hate the dealership and will NEVER buy from them again. When I got the survey, I told them exactly how I was treated. I have bought many cars using USAA's emailed bank check. It only takes an extra day or two to clear. If they say that they don't take USAA, I walk away.

Stay away from Cherry Hill Kia, NJ. Charging 10k over MSRP with 20 allocations. Clearly price gouging even when there they have an abundance of them coming in.
A year later, I was able to buy at MSRP from Cherry Hill Kia. Hilariously enough, they still have market adjustment stickers on most of their cars showing $20k markups (a Kia for $71k - LOL!), but they were willing to deal. Seems like they get an awful lot of cars and mine happened to be sitting for a while, so I think they were happy to get it sold. Overall, it was a good experience dealing with them - we reached an agreement before I drove 2 hours to the dealership, I asked them to put it in writing before I left, which they did, and they held up their end of the bargain with no drama.

I’ve been shopping for an SX w/P for about a week now and Jim Ellis Kia of Kennesaw said they may have one inbound. I had to visit the VW dealer next door, so I said what the heck and told them I’d stop by.
One employee followed me around when I arrived, presumably since we had said hello to one time prior as we were window shopping. Then I sat down with Natasha, one of the managers. She had a $48k SX worked up with ~$1500 in market adjustment on the paperwork. I figured I would give her a minute to give the pitch... then as she’s going over the numbers she excuses herself and comes back with the same paper and $5k of market adjustment. I thanked her for time and said I was no longer interested. 🤷🏼‍♂️
I understand supply and demand but this just rubbed me the wrong way. Oh well, I’ll buy from someone else.
Consider Toyota Highlander (not hybrid), I got mine 4k under MSRP, great car and service, it last forever. The hybrids you won't get deals like this.

Horrible experience thus far. Has turned me off from this vehicle purchase. Firstly, the sales guy was uneducated about the features of the Telluride. I had to explain to him what the features were. I knew the features based on the 30 YouTube video reviews I watched. The sales guy didn’t know the vehicle had auto-off, he didn’t know the six comes with the 10 inch screen, he didn’t know details of the prestige package, he didn’t know about the lane change assist, or the camera parking features. I asked about the auto-start temperature control system which he responded he’d have to check into that. Basically I learned all the features and was sold the vehicle by the YouTube video reviewers. I placed an order for a six prestige. The salesman and his manager told me the vehicle would be in in 3 weeks. I challenged that timeframe as I told them I’d think due to popularity, I thought it would take longer. They insisted the vehicle would be in in 3 weeks. I left a $1k deposit and proceeded with the order. While completing the paperwork, the sales guy gets a call from his son. He then did the worse thing ever. He out loud, verbal led refers to his son as the n word, but he used the actual word, after he got off the phone with him. I could not believe it. I was so turned off. So unprofessional. I completed the paperwork, left my deposit, and left the dealership. Its been 3 weeks and no word from the dealership. In the back of my head I knew three weeks was a stretch but I thought these are the professionals and they know their product. Yesterday I contacted the salesman and he told me that there has been no update in their system as to when the vehicle will be delivered. I somewhat had to remind him who I was. He left off with me that he would continue looking for the SX model for me and will call me back when one is available. I don’t need a call back when one is available, I need a call back when the order I placed for the model and features I want is available, being manufactured, being delivered. Thus far, my first Kia purchase is not going well. I am minutes away from canceling my order and realizing maybe Kia, the Telluride, and this NY dealership is not for me. I hate to associate this bad experience, this bad purchase, this bad salesman using the N-word in front of a customer and overpromising a delivery with the Kia brand but i can’t help doing so. This has put a really bad taste in my mouth killing the excitement I had for the Telluride purchase.
I had terrible experience too....my car was due to arrive and I had vin number and price at MSRP.
Then found the car listed in Alaska for 7k over msrp. I ended up Toyota Highlander at 4k under MSRP. It's great proven car and will last forever. I've been driving it for 4+ months, could not be happier.

Moritz Fort Worth - Awful Experience - Holds your car hostage to low-ball your trade-in

Moritz is one of the dealers in DFW that sells at MSRP along with Kia of Frisco. I purchased my '22 from Frisco and my '23 from Mortiz. After 6 months of waiting for my '23 Telluride the below is what I experienced. Trust me, order yours from someone else.

- I came in once the vehicle came in to finalize the transaction
- Mario Meza, the new car sales manager lowballs me on my trade-in, which is a 22 SX Prestige Nightfall with under 13,000 miles (he offers $45k when KBB for trade-in is over $50k, he also shows me a fake KBB value he achieves by not inputting all my cars' upgrades or the correct trim)
- After several times of the main sales guy walking away for 45 minutes at a time, Mario comes back for the hard sell
- Mario started by threatening me and saying he did not have to sell me the car and he would make more money selling it to someone else
- Mario then presents some BS numbers on why his trade-in offer is the highest they can go
- Mario then says he will refuse to sell me the car if I don't give them a perfect survey from the manufacturer. This is following by someone giving me a sheet telling me the responses I need to give on the survey (kind of defeats the point of the survey and certainly not what the manufacturer is intending)
- After wasting most of my day I just give in as I've been waiting for this car for so long.
- The dealer than immediately lists my trade in for $11k more than they gave me for it and sell it in a couple of days

Punchline: Order a new Telluride with Kia of Frisco. Moritz Fort Worth will hold the car you've been waiting for so long hostage to make you take a terrible trade-in offer. Net-Net I wouldve ended up better off buying from a dealer with a market adjustment.

Ya you should not have given in. Did you order the 2023?

KBB and the others are NOT that accurate for trade in values. There are many books to take into consideration. BUT, I will tell you that MOST dealers have a subscription with GALVES.COM. This is a paid service that tracks nearly all vehicles sold at auction. That is where your traded in vehicle will end up. You buy your own one week or one month subscription for a few bucks and look up car values until it expires. I bought my 2018 Chevrolet ZR2 Colorado pick up for $43k out the door from a Chevy dealer. Drove it for 3.5 years with 19k miles. Looked up the Galves value that stated up $43k for excellent condition. I sold it thru ALGO.com for $40k ! The truck only cost me $3k for 3.5 years ! This was when there were hardly any used cars available, so i did get a good price. With that said, I traded my 2012 Chevy Suburban Z71 with 60k miles into Kia for $18,500, saving me about 2000 in sales tax on the new Telluride, that they hit me for $7k over sticker. I found the truck for sale at a Pennsylvania dealer asking $30,000 !!!
Use Galves if you need a correct value for a used car. It will give you a good idea if the dealer is asking too much.

Stinks you had such a poor experience, I hope you completely ignored their recommended "report card". As an FYI - while Kia of Frisco will claim to sell the vehicle at MSRP, they have a mandatory $5k package which might as well be a market adjustment.

Thomas Kia in Highland, IN - The dealer's site indicates "Total Price : $45,080" (nearly, but not quite equal to MSRP) - you can find it for this VIN: 5XYP3DGC0PG393967

The dealer will not actually sell it at that price. They're requiring a $5k market adjustment, $2k paint protector, and $3k "VSC" (whatever that is) which is not reflected in that price.

Vehicle Service contract which is a package for oil changes and other services that are not a requirement. Tell them to take them off or kick rocks.

I just don't understand deals like yours. Why trade-in a year old car with 13k for the same car? I know it's not my money but some people love throwing money away.

Contacted Demontrond Kia in Houston about a car and I believe initial price was MSRP plus $6K package and $2K markup (my notes are all over the place from calling different dealerships but it came out to something around $8-9K) before TTL. I have the car on order at Fort Bend Kia, who sells at MSRP, so I'm just looking around if something comes up quicker at MSRP.

I dealt with one guy the entire time but never got the guy's name because he mumbled it every time and I couldn't catch it.

Biggest issues with them/him:
  • Told me if I could get paperwork saying the price was MSRP, they could negotiate with that. Provided paperwork and still came out to $54K before TTL.
  • Told me all dealerships are marking up and if they are selling at MSRP, they are lying. Still said this despite seeing the advertising on FB Kia's main page about no dealer add-ons or markups. Even admitted he could see it on their site while on the phone with me.
  • During the second call where I provided paperwork, I asked if that car was taken yet since they said it was inbound. He said "Oh, that car was sold to another customer. Guess you should have put a deposit down on it the first time, huh?" I don't care to spend over MSRP so no, I wouldn't have put a deposit on it anyway. Incredibly arrogant response.
  • They didn't even have the car in the first place! So he was lying to me when he said that it was sold. I found the car at a different dealership, same VIN and all. I physically went to look at it and this dealer said they just received it off the truck that morning. It was still available but at a markup so I left it.

Ron Tonkin - Portland bad dealership, don't trust them. Was talking to a Salesperson Iiel Schumacher and told him I wanted to buy a car on the lot, got a vehicle proposal and agreed to the price (the price they had listed on their website so noone was paying more) After 2 days he sent an application which I filled out immediately, then he tried to sneak in an extended warranty shady, and I had to keep calling him to get the process moving. Then he sat on that for a while. He didn't answer today so I called the dealership. After an hour I got a phone call back from another Salesperson saying they sold it a half hour ago and then he hung up on me. I have been nothing but kind and patient and communicative. I mean I waited 4 days to try to buy this car. We have excellent credit and were going to pay cash. Absolute bull crap and terrible business ethics.

I agree that is horrible service. Years ago a jeep dealership I was looking for a car at called me a few days after signing a lease with another dealership and when I mentioned that they didn't say well please think of us for service or in the future or congratulations they just hung up. I have never returned.

I hope you find the car you are looking for and for the right price, without the BS.

Also, expect the dealer to leave money on the table by selling at MSRP, but squeeze them for every penny on the trade because your used car is shown to be worth as much as the new one on some website. You're allowed to disagree with their trade offer, just take your car elsewhere and get that $45k you think it's worth. They are not obligated to give you that much.
