Canadian SX Limited - Extended wait times

Have been super Chill so far ! But the whole experience and wait time without any updates has left me with a bad taste. All dealers in Canada are in the same boat with the SX-L . Just spoke with the dealership and they dont have an answer -> Pointed them to this bulletin --> https://tellurideforum.org/attachments/20190622_195902-jpg.1929/ and they can't confirm or deny .

Just not vibing KIA right now !

I would switch dealers if they can't be honest with you - they are probably just afraid of losing your sale. Mine had no issues confirming for me that the bulletin was indeed a fact and there was no solid time frame on any SXL w/ Nappa being produced other than the ones that were already slated for the production line. Aug 2019 is also the time they expect to see their allotment of SXL's arrive.

Hello Everyone,

First, I am very grateful for this forum and I really wanted to speak my word, but felt I was going no where with Kia Canada. We got super excited hearing about Kia Telluride and decided to go with it. Our local dealership (Milton, Ontario) said, " we have an SXL ordered for us and it should be here soon !! "

This was on April 11th, when we placed a deposit and got a Bill of Sale with no VIN . Interesting fact, when we were placing the order, the guy showed his screen , which clearly stated 1 Kia Telluride SXL - In Production - ETA August 2019. That was flag right there and we asked about it, but they reassured that they will be able to track down a car faster and have it delivered prior to that ETA.

I had to call them every other week for an ETA (Which is another flag, coz you start questioning the Customer Service and say why do I have to keep calling you for an update ?) - We called KIA Canada, who also failed to give us any update and no regards in calling us back . In June, we had some email exchange with the sales manager, who assured us that the Bill of Sale has been forwarded and Kia Canada would reserve a car for us.

Today, we find out that both the General Manager and Sales Manager are no longer with the Dealership, and we still do not have an ETA for the SXL. We did hear about the Nappa Leather Shortage but if you see Kia Canada website , they now have 4 Trims ! EX - SX - SXL and SXL w/Nappa.

So at this point we are really questioning,
Should we still wait at it has already been 3 months ?
Can Kia just give us a SXL as we dont care about the Nappa ?
Should we back out and get our money back ?
How do we get more inside info like from a Rep or even a Distribution Manager who knows what is going on ?

Sorry for the vent but had to let it out as it is really frustrating !!

Same situation going on for us in Toronto. Placed our order for Black exterior and black interior Sx-Limited (Captains chairs) May 27th. Was told “our” car had an estimated arrival date of June 26th (apparently the dealer had ordered this car for himself and now we were getting it). Called back mid-June and we were told the car was now estimated to arrive Aug 18th. Last week told September or October and then last night we were told it would arrive November or even NEXT YEAR! Dealer has blamed it on the nappa leather issue. Just had our 3rd kid- are in need of a 3 row car and were excited about this one. We’re beyond frustrated and not sure what to do.

Wow, that is really unfortunate.

Options are to get a non-Nappa leather Telluride, or get a Palisade which is very similar to our Tellurides.

I just received a phone call this evening from my dealership here in Ottawa. I ordered my SX Limited in mid-June just before the change to the SX limited models. He told me tonight that they have not been able to even order my Telluride yet as they've shut down ordering for SX Limiteds. He told me that I could still get one without Nappa leather around October-November if I decide to change my order to no longer include the Nappa leather however if I do want the Nappa then it will most likely be in the new year when it arrives. I thought he was calling to tell me that they've received the VIN but instead he tells me that they haven't even ordered it yet. Frustrating indeed. He also told me that Limiteds have not been released in Canada yet which I know is untrue (because of this great site) as people out west are getting them.

That is pretty bad if they didnt even place your order for you (or they placed it not knowing it couldnt/wouldnt be filled until now). I would direct them to autotrader where there are a bunch of SXL listed (all out west at this point I think, maybe 1 or 2 in Quebec). They may be able to source you one coming to Ontario or Quebec if they arent all spoken for.

Finally got a VIN for my SXL. Hopefully wont be much longer now for delivery. I was originally told mid-August so it looks to be accurate at this point.
Was this with the Nappa leather and when did you place your order?

Yes nappa, and order was mid May. However the Telly I'm getting was a dealer allocation already as the one I originally ordered (gray nappa) wouldn't have been available until the fall they found out after the fact. Offered me their allocation which only difference was interior colour.

Ahh ok I order mine around the same time and was told November. So I have to wait until then. If it doesnt come by that time I will be asking for my deposit back and seeing what else is out in the market

One more frustrated buyer here, happy to have found this forum.

We tried the SX and loved it. We didn't get one of those 2 on the lot because the dealer in Markham told us that he had 2 SXL already ordered and if we were to give up on the Everlasting Grey, pay now, we could get a While one with Nappa "in the next few weeks". It took a few days for them to "check out" out trade-in and on May 18th we settled on the 7 seater, white, top trim with Nappa, and put our money down.

Summer plans were changed to finally travel to the east coast, as soon as the kids are done with school, leaving on Jun 28th, so wife and I can add the weekend to the time off.

With May 18th being a Saturday, no Spider sense triggered us when the manager said "the VIN is not available in the system at the moment, I'll call you back next week, they are always updating something on weekends".

By mid Jun no one had called us so I started texting the sales rep asking for firm date and reminding that we never got the VIN. She said I'd hear back from the manager, who'd left for the day. No manager or anyone called back that week so I started calling her cell and the office, leaving messages for someone to confirm we're still good to travel by end of Jun. When I finally got her on the phone she said that due to the issues with the Napa leather, the delivery date has now been pushed to Jul.15th. They refused to offer a loaner or anything else that'd get us in a safe car for our trip east.

Another long silence and I started calling in early Jul asking again for VIN and date. It took again a week of voice mails, texts and begging the front desk to get the manager to call me back. Finally spoke with him on the Jul. 11th and got - "it's crazy with the Telly, things change all the time but it should be soon" message. I explained that friends are coming from Europe, we've pushed the travel plans to Aug.9th and I'm OK with any SX Telluride, with Napa or not, Everlasting Gray, White or whatever colour but we need to make sure we're travelling on Aug. 9th. He said - that's a much easier task and I won't be surprised if your car is delivered by that time as the other of the 2 SXL white ones was picked up just last week, your's can't be too far in the making.

Then again silence, so I did my 2-week before the trip check. SMS back from the sales rep that she had no update but her manager will call me, hopefully with good news this time.
No call back on Wed, Thu, Fri or Today at 5pm when I saw this forum thread.

I know I'm just sharing one more story and don't expect any of you to have an answer, but I'd appreciate if you have any ideas for me, well, better than "rent a Toyota Highlander out of your pocket or cancel your family vacation".

Thanks, M

Unfortunately I dont have any advice to offer, but I share your frustration. I don't think the dealers and Kia were expecting the demand for the Telly that came, especially for the top model. From everything ive read here the wait will be worth it in the end.

My dealer tells me that SXL isn't even in Canada yet. Goes to show you that dealerships really have no idea. I told mine that maybe they need to join this forum so they can gain some knowledge on the product they are selling.

I'm hearing far too many of these stories. My recommendation would be to look at the Palisade. They are very similar and their prices are similar as well.

If you can get past the looks of the Palisade (maybe you'll like the looks better) then it might be a good choice.

Keep us posted and good luck!

One available in Brantford

Thank you @13_FST
I've been Subaruing for the past 3 decades and if Ascent wasn't such a let-down I'd have probably not looked into switching brands. With Kia Canada and the dealer being totally unresponsive, I'm looking around.
Friend's family just picked up a Mazda CX-9 Signature - looks awesome, delivery was on time, updates since ordering were "more frequent that needed", price is also $53K and they negotiated down a bit.
If the Kia dealer didn't tell me that one White SXL with Light gray Nappa was suddenly available due to someone walking out of the deal mid-May, I'd have waited for the Palisade, to at least check out the top trim's fancy gauges changing colours :)
Had I known that July would end with half of the kid's summer vacation gone, without even a date for the car, I'd have made other plans, picked the SX that I tested, or even chased the few Demo/2nd hand ones that already popped up on Kijiji.
Is there a better availability of the Palisade? Better feedback in the forum you linked (will register and check myself later)?
What does it take to get my $2K back from the Kia dealer? Never had to go through this and the "SALES FINAL" is bold and kindly highlighted at the bottom right end of Kia's Purchase Agreement.

Sales final is ONLY valid if they were able to provide you with a car on the agreed upon time frame. The fact that they couldn't makes the agreement null and void.

If they resist, talk to their GM. If they still resist, threaten with a lawsuit and complain to Kia Canada. That will easily give you your full deposit back. This is ridiculous!

Yes, there are way more Palisade around than Tellurides. And no, I wouldn't consider any other vehicle as Kia/Hyundais are the best considering the value you get.

I'm very sorry about your dealership experience. If you can hold off then get the Telluride. But if you cannot then Palisade is an excellent choice as well.

I saw that one and read as far as:
Dealer MSRP Price $56,603
Dealer Price $56,604

I thought the laws of supply and demand didn't drive greed so badly in Canada... but maybe Trump is slowly taking over the great white north.
How can they say MSRP when the M stands for Manufacturers?? So really it's the dealer price not MSRP as there is no such thing as a dealer MSRP. The price in the ad isn't too bad really. Once you add on taxes/levies, colour fee, and freight to the MSRP, it's $56229. I sent my dealership the link and asked if they could get it for me because that is the exact one I ordered and they said they aren't available in Canada yet. Guess the ad is fake!! Lol

I live outside of Toronto and just took delivery of my SX Limited on July 23rd. So it's not true that they have not been released. I ordered my Telluride May 4th. I had originally ordered it in Gravity Grey and black Nappa interior. I got a call in early July saying they made a lot of limited's in Dark Moss and could get it within 7-10 days. If I wanted to wait for the Grey I would be waiting a lot longer. I decided to take the dark moss. It's crazy the delay with the Telluride!!
