• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Cold start screeching noise

OK, as the OP I hate to tell you that nothing has happened, I don't see any TSB about this issue nor any update from other owners. Apparently Kia is trying to ignore the issue since only part of their vehicles is affected by the cold weather. What I can tell you is that Kia is very strict on warranty repairs, I recently have two pieces of plastic trim parts replaced, and I needed to sign paper work for each part the dealership replaced. I guess Kia is not gonna easily admit a problem of which the solution might involve opening the entire intake manifold.

Now we park in a garage so that solves the problem partially though I think it's stupid to say this...
Could try this DIY fix by greasing the belt. Some of the commenters on the video said it worked for their new cars as well.

Hey folks, my SXP recently had screeching noise from the hood when I start the engine first thing in the morning, it lasts about 10 seconds then fades away. It happens more frequently when it’s freezing cold. Did some search and the most possible reason seems to be loose engine belt that slips in cold weather, but this shouldn’t happen in a 1 year old car. We’ve been very satisfied about our Telly and this is the only issue we’ve found.
Will have the first oil change next week and also have the dealership look into this, hopefully it can be corrected and I will post update.

I'm having this same issue. I live in IA and park in my garage so it only makes the noise for about 5 seconds and then stops. I have a 21 SXP with 13k miles. This is the first winter I've had the vehicle.

Has anyone reached a solution for this issue?

Hopefully KIA can finally come up with the "cure" for this.....my 20 Telly SX P has close to 34K on the meter and has never made the noise during the 3 winters I have had it.

I'm experiencing this same issue on my 2021 S - going to bring it in and show them this thread

Same issue for.me as well this a.m. cold start screech and I have just over 6700 miles 2021 Telluride outside Temp 25* in NY

Same with my 2021 Telly. I’m on Long Island and it was 23 degrees F this morning. Will only do it when the temp is below 30. She was at the dealer today and they said everything looks fine (same as the op).

One thing, when I started her this morning, the noise began and when I hit the break, it stopped. Wonder if there is a connection there? Further, I have a K&N air filter. Wonder if that is doing something with the air intake?

The dealership of course will say no problem was found because simply no code can be scanned. Would you please submit a complaint to the NHTSA? It would be great if you attach a video showing the noise. I'm not sure if there are other ways to raise this up.

Sure. Will do.

My Sorento 2019 does that. I will record this and give it to the dealer since I'm in for oil leak.
1st oil leak was the oil pan at 15000 KMs, now at 21500 KMs, it is the time chain cover.
One thing for sure, wont own past the warraty, and I'm done with Kia.

I have a 2021 EXP and I’m experiencing the same intermittent issue. It makes a squealing noise when I start the car myself or use my key fob/app. They could not get me in for an appointment for another two weeks but I am very discouraged by reading the other posts because it seems to be something they are not able to diagnose if it’s not happening while it’s at the dealership. Has any one of you received an update from the dealership and has this been resolved I’m hoping someone has some thing they can offer up as useful information when I take my vehicle in.

Well add me to the list as well. 2020 hyundai palisade limited with 10k on the odo. Just had 5-10° nights, when I started it, I heard that exact noise. Never heard it before at 30° but since that 5° day it happens now at warmer Temps.

Same problem here. It was 5 degrees this morning. The Telluride was parked in the driveway overnight. When I first started it, the whistling noise was so loud we could clearly here it inside the house. It lasted about 20-30 seconds, then faded away. At first, I though it was a belt noise. But based on all the other posts in this thread, clearly it's nott

Have a 2021 Telluride LX in Colorado, same issue, sounds like a ringing jet turbine that wakes everybody up on the block when I cold start on frozen mornings. Dealership had it for two frozen mornings and claims they could not duplicate the sound and no one has been in there with this issue. I'm filing Kia and NHTSA complaints with videos and two service visit printouts. Cover your ace people, we can sue the shit out of them.

Now we have Palisade and Sorento on the list. I'm curious if there are threads in their forums discussing a similar issue.

I have a 2020 Kia Sorento SX (3.3l v6) and you can add me to the list. Here are some videos of my issue:

The sound appears after about 5-6 seconds and like everyone else, the cart needs to be sitting for 12+ hours in very cold temps (ie. -15c or below).

My dealer here in Oshawa will be taking the car for the weekend and trying it a couple of mornings. In the Sorento forum I'm in, someone suggested that the alternator would fire up in about 5-6 seconds after starting, so maybe something associated with that perhaps?

In any case, this thread has the issue documented the best so this is why I created an account to share my experiences. Same engine so there is a common component with the issue.

I will 100% report back if the dealer finds anything. Problem is they basically get only 1 shot a day to hear it, and even then the weather has to cooperate as well. But I'm going to suggest the alternator and possibly a pulley or bearing associated with it.

20 SX - Just had same issue crop up. Cold start - screeching noise for about 10 - 15 seconds.
I'm debating on taking to dealer as it seems like it could on be recreated on a start after prolonged cold. Will take a video to demonstrate.

Have been having the same issue with my 2021 Telluride EX AWD. Bought it brand new March 2020 so this is my first winter with the car and the high pitched squealing first started a few weeks ago and now occurs on most cold starts. Same sound as you are all experiencing. Sounds like a tea kettle boiling over. Lasts maybe 15-20 seconds. I live in CT and the weather lately has been in the single digits to teens fahrenheit. Will try to record it and show it to Kia when I go in for my next oil change. Will update if there is a diagnosis and resolution to the issue.

In earlier post on this thread - there was mention of a code popping for some on this issue. Wondering for those who have experienced this earlier last year (2021) if there has been any resolution / updated info. from KIA, etc?
