Dealer Markup

I went to see the Telluride for the first time today. The dealership I went to, which will remain nameless, didn’t use a standard markup, but added over $3,000 to the MSRP with items such as security system, nitrogen filled tires, and a paint/fabric protection. Needless to say, I won’t be buying from them if they don’t remove those charges. I can wait another 2-3 years when my next lease is done to take a look.
Hello , I work at I-25 Kia located in Longmont Colorado , we are actually one of the only dealerships that sell Kia TellURides at MSRP, if you had any other questions feel free to reach out @ Dominic@i25kia.com

Funny! I just met a guy at a gas station in Orlando that liked my Telluride and wanted to shoot the bull about the truck. He just purchased from you in Colorado and drove back over the holidays. He said it was a Moss Green SXP.

small world !! We definitely push tons of tellurides through our dealership, we have about 100 incoming and of those 100 or so we have only 30 left available.

If anybody pays over msrp you need a slap in the face. You're doing yourself a huge disservice. Supply will catch up with demand.

@Cliv80 and @Crakkajakka15 If you can't find it elsewhere on the forums, when we ordered ours in October, Abeloff Kia in Stroudsburg, PA was selling orders for MSRP. I don't know if they changed since then. We ended up just calling around to a bunch of places and asked if they were marking up the Telly. We ended up going with a placer closer to us in NJ and got it for MSRP. A lot of the places were selling for $8k over sticker.

A $3000-$10,000 markup will pay for a great vacation with money left over, making it worth it to make the trip...IF you have the price, in writing and signed. Which you have to have in order to register your vehicle in your home state so you can bring the plates and registration to put on your new Telly.

Are dealers still jacking the price up? I’ve had ours for about a year and a half so I haven’t looked at the prices recently.

I should add that I paid sticker for our EX Snow White Pearl w/ grey interior, which usually isn’t a good deal, back in June 2019. Given what a lot of others have gone through with the extended wait times, maybe I lucked out.

Lots of them seem to be. Here is SC there are a couple of good dealers and a couple of turds.

Yep my local dealers are not budging on $5k markup

Well I just looked up the dealership I purchased ours from and it would appear as though they are permanently closed.

Kia of Sussex

That’s insane! I didn’t buy mine locally. The dealer I drove up to were the nicest folks. They had the truck cleaned and paperwork in the glovebox before I got there.
Yep and all 7 dealerships in the state is under 1 management 🤦🏽‍♀️ That’s why I ordered from Cali. Even with the shipping it’s still cheaper 😁

Same. Kia in Cumming Ga won't budge on $5K markup. Also $850 doc fee and ~$100 for govt fees. Are you guys able to get them to drop and just pay MSRP + tax/tags?

Maybe if the dealership I bought mine from sold them above MSRP they’d still be in business.

It's been 2 years and supply (even with increased production) still hasn't entirely caught up with demand.

There are Cali Ford dealerships asking for $10k above list for the Bronco Sport.

Wonder what they'll be asking for the real Bronco.

I just returned this evening from a trip to Stevens Creek Kia here in the SF Bay Area (Sunnyvale). I am looking for an SX Prestige with tow package. The sales guy was completely disinterested and bordering on rude. When I asked him the price, all he did was wave me towards the $9500 markup sticker on the window. I'm going to look into getting one from out of state, or just going with my second choice.

I'm working my way through these forums, but any experiences with buying from out of state and registering in CA would be very much appreciated.

TIA!

I bought one and grilled the dealer all the way up to the general manager and the answer was generally the same. The demand is very high, they don't make enough money and dealers are strategically adding on to get the money to make it profitable. "Kia" wasn't the term he used, he used "they said" when he said they authorized 7 grand in up selled junk. I too went though the WHY THE F*** do I need this crap shpeal and I feel like I grilled the honest out of them. They ended up telling me it was pure profit after I got them to shut up about how great the upselling was.

For the short term, There's not a lot of vehicles available. When manufacturing ramps up, we should see this come down. Until then, take my words and the dealer add ons with a grain of salt.
That makes no sense when many of us paid less than MSRP for our Telly's. Those dealerships didn't lose money to make our sale. They are clearly making money. And since l bought our of state, they aren't making up for it on service.
