• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... @DarkMossJustin

Gibson is in Corona but I dont know much about the operations

Edelbrock used to have most of their facilities in Torrance but they recently shut down a bunch of operations in CA and are only keeping their design/dev teams in CA and taking the manufacturing else where. I will reach out to my development friend at Edelbrock and see if there is an appetite for something like this, not sure where the company focusing efforts.

You can also use this as leverage in negotiations and say you will take this user group to a competitor to develop another exhaust

Yes, let us know what your friend at Edelbrock says.

In the meantime, I’ll find a few contacts at Gibson and keep chipping away at Borla’s “offer”.

Please post any updates, good or bad or TBD here 👍

Justin, may I suggest that when you contact Borla you mention that you are a member of a Kia Owners Group with X-number of members, and that a small number “y” of those are reaching out to Gibson and others as Telly944 suggested. If we like the pricing and the characteristics that we receive, we will publish our findings to the rest of the Owners Group, which could actually result in a significant sales bump for the manufacturer.

It’s also possible that Borla already knows about this from this public forum, considering corporate marketing departments often have watch alerts set up for their corporate name for damage control purposes.

We have 13 parties?

Is that correct?

So let me count everyone up:

Let me know if I listed you and you're not in and if this list is correct or needs correction in any way.

If they accept our terms, we're going to have to do a standard Group Purchase Agreement and digitally sign it somehow.

Hopefully they don't force us to use a group bank account, otherwise we'll have to figure that part out ourselves.

#2 @bcjenkins
#3 @chopsueyboi
#4 @soNburst
#5 @BasilFawlty
#6 @ashuride
#7 @twincam23
#8 @Socal949
#9 @RockOut
#10 @Atlanta
#11 @Telly944 (hopefully they let you and me pick up our exhausts directly. we can always ask them)
#12 @Nightsky93
#13 @slickzigtheruler

Again, I'll put together a friendly proposal for a group buy that they may accept or decline and even if they decline, we can draft another proposal and see if they like the second one, and third one, and so on.

If they won't budge from $390, 25 minimum order, then we're stuck until more people are in.

For this first go, I'm shooting for $300, 10 minimum offer, (hopefully 12-13 are committed)

We'll accept $330 if they throw in shipping and those crazy California taxes.
Dont let me out 🤬

@RockOut:

Anything is possible.

This forum is so easy to search and comes up on Google’s first page for many topics.

That being said, the market is the market and someone at Borla must have studied business subjects like consumer behavior and economics and accounting besides just engineering and operations.

Brands think they have all the power, but brand switching happens all the time. Look at how many of us went from non-Kia brands to Kia because of all the great judgements and decisions that Kia made resulting in the Telluride (2020-?).

Maybe we blew the element of surprise by discussing this on a public forum, but most negotiations seem more like a sequential game (turn-based) than a simultaneous game (rock-paper-scissors).

We can see how they react and get a better read on if they’re willing to even meet us half-way.

I have no idea of Borla’s accounting numbers, raw materials, factory overhead, cost of goods sold, of how they manage costs.

That being said I’m personally valuing a product that produces some extra sound in Sport Mode at $300.

If Borla can make this happen for us, they make a little money, ten or eleven or __ of us get a fair price for an exhaust, win-win.

If not, I can live with Telly’s stock exhaust until direct competitors come up with awesome sounding exhausts or I go into the CNC-machined custom exhaust business 🥳

If they want $330 each for a minimum order of 10, we better get something (taxes & ground shipping) for the extra $30.

I will let y’all know how it goes, good or bad or however else, as well as any developments with other parts manufacturers.

If they refuse to deal with me, there’s always their “offer” and single units for around $550 retail and over $600 direct from Borla HQ in Oxnard.

Dont let me out 🤬

I was just counting up people who responded to the thread.

I can’t see names attached to the poll, that’s why I asked for direct responses to the thread.

You’re in! 👍

We have 10+ and if Borla goes for it, great, I’ll collect real names and contact info offline so that we can draw up a Group Purchase Agreement.

We’re still waiting to get to that point, but hopefully Borla accepts our counter-offer regarding price/quantity/payment 🔜

Yeah I’m in too. Can I make a PITA suggestion though? I love the sound of the Tork exhaust but they said they didn’t get enough interest to make it. If we are reaching out to other companies could we include them?
Here’s their product (I like the black tips too but maybe that’s just me)
Either way at $330 shipped I’m in lol

Borla video sound clip for comparison.

Tork sounds better on my speakers Don't know

Tork sound deeper. almost NO resonator at all looks like straight pipe

I went ahead and voted "Yes" but I wish there was an "I'm Interested" option.

I like the thought of improving the exhaust sound but if we can't get a really good deal in the low $300's then the factory exhaust is fine for me right now.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah I really like the deeper sound. IMO goes better with the visual of a truck / SUV. But on one of their YouTube videos they said they didn’t get enough interest to end up making them. Depending on what company will play ball, I just wanted to include them in the running. Somehow their video quality is worse but I think their product sounds better haha

I second that notion
