If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hand caught between drivers seat and center console

Happened to me yesterday in my Kia Optima. Wife was in the car, she ended up having to call 911. Fire Department extricated me in 10 minutes using a long flat metal tool to move track back to free my fingers, and seat over to free my wrist.

I bought these. Waiting for them to arrive from China!

These arrived and I installed. They look good and fit well.

I knew a person, will not say the name to protect the innocent, so this person, who should remain nameless, got their hand stuck in the "black hole" so badly the seat had to be unbolted and removed. Sigh, by the fire department. You see, the person really did try to pull the hand free, but the hand was not coming free. So when there was a mention of blood and at a public rest stop, well the fire department was called. Not by the person that got their hand stuck. The person was trying to explain that the fire department was unnecessary, if only someone would go into the trunk, get the tools out of it, and unbolt the seat. Nope fire departments. Lights and everything.

5 minutes later, hand was free, blood soaked carpet, and one dislocated digit, but self respect was never found. This was almost 20 years ago, and the person that shall remain nameless, still has scars from it.

NEVER CHASE ANYTHING INTO THE GAP.

I got m
Man I just did that last week, if you drop your phone Do Not try to grab it by sliding your hand in there, specially if you are driving you might meet Mayhem! Lol

I got my hand caught Between the car seat and the console yesterday! I thought I was the only one! It was a horrible incident. I was in the Chic Fila drive through and dropped my glasses down between the seats. I had to get the attendant’s attention so I could get some help. Before long, we tried moving the seat forward and backward, up and down with no luck. After multiple people at Chic Fila tried to help me I started losing feeling in my hand, so they called 911. I asked them Please not to mess up my new car, so they tried a BP cuff first, then I suggested they unbolt the seat, which they finally had to do to get my hand out. It looks like I tried to slit my wrist, but other than that and the utter embarrassment. I guess all is ok. I never ever had this happen with my BMW or any other vehicles I have owned. From this forum, it seems like I am not alone. I love my new Telluride, but advise anyone who owns one to never reach for anything...No matter what it is until it can be reached from under the seat!!!

Interesting situation yesterday. My phone slid down between the console and the drivers seat yesterday. Went to grab the phone (was very tight) while driving but could not get my hand back (even without the phone). Seems my hand got stuck on something under the seat lining. Unable to move it forward or backward had to literally pull my hand out with force which left my wrist scratched and bloody. Fair warning. If you drop something don't do what I did and instead stop, get off the seat and reach under the front of back of the seat to get the item.

Almost the same thing happened to me though my hand never got stuck. I dropped my credit card in there and it was a fight just to get my cc back lol

I purchased a pair of car seat gap filler from amazon which was useless. it was a pocket type which allowes you to store things, but they eventually slide down the gap and you have to put your hand down there to retrieve it (read PTSD). I ended up chucking those for something cheap from ebay and has been working great. They come in different color so I'm sure you can match them to your seats.

p.s. My episode occurred while I was driving my daughter to school last year. My cellphone slit down from my pants pocket right into the gap and I automatically reached for it. I had to drive with one hand and successfully pulled my hand out eventually with a mighty effort (I was prepared to see rips, cuts and bleeding - too macho to call 911 or stop by fire department just across from her school). I saw this posting soon after and found out that I wasn't alone.

Oh wow, thanks for sharing. Definitely an accessory to add to the list once the Telly comes in.

Instead of gap guards, I use plastic long V shaped "Gap Catchers" - As Seen On TV for $6. Things fall in and the catcher can easily slide out and back in again. I have also seen them in discount stores.

I just did this today and ended up with a fractured wrist lol

I have one of these grabbers. Maybe I should keep it in the car! CE8EB716-2F57-4B89-B96D-AA78E92F1FC1.webp

I used a piece of HD gray foam pipe wrap and stuffed it in there. Been over a year now and it works fine, Total cost ~$2.

The same thing happened to me today. I reached for a piece of paper I dropped between the seat and Center console and couldn’t get it out! I had to drive to a police station and have a police officer get a piece of wood to pry my arm free. My arm was a mess. The officer asked if I want an ambulance. But the humiliation was already too much. There are more and more people this is happening to. Kia needs to address this before someone gets seriously injured. If I hadn’t had help I’d still be stuck. This was in a 2021 Telluride. Love the vehicle but not the death trap seat design.

Putting your hand between the seat and console while driving in any vehicle is dangerous to you and anyone around you. If it’s that important; pull over and retrieve it. Sitting on the seat closes the distance between the seat and center console; you jam your hand/arm down there and get stuck.

I learned my lesson the first time I reached in there to retrieve something. The Home Depot foam solution worked for me too, lol. Point is no one expects to get stuck like that. Thanks to others for the warning.

Thanks for the warning! What first came to mind when I read your saga was the movie Trains Planes and Automobles when John Candy (Dale) tried to take his coat off while driving and got both arms stuck LOL. Sorry you suffered the scratches, and thanks for the warning. I'm sure I'm going to drop something down there eventually.
