If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hello,
I have a Gravity Gray SX coming in any day now (San Diego) and I am having second thoughts about paying MSRP plus an $1800 package the dealer wants to add. We're now talking a little over $50k for a Kia! I know the reviews are great but my wife and I are seriously thinking about getting an Acura MDX SH-AWD for almost the same exact price. It's not as sexy as the Telluride but I've always heard that you should't buy a car off of emotion. The economics of this car are terrible! Am I crazy?

I found a dealer that didn't add any of that nonsense, and got them to throw in accessories.

My dealer dropped the extra add-on charges when I asked ... Ask for KIA financing and they should give you an extra $1K off. But don't pay it off totally for at least 6 months otherwise they will tac it back on. We got the S version and love it. I did a ton of research before buying and the "Telly" is the best value. Also consider how long you will keep the car. We used a KIA to trade in and that had 89K miles over 9 years. I'm planning to keep the Telly for at least 10 years. With the warranty and all they have a valued product. The only thing I worry about is if South Korea gets Nuked by North Korea. But someone else will pick up the parts replacement.

What is the $1800 package they want to add? Is it a must or they won’t sell u the car? I got the exact same car a week ago (gravity grey SX, not prestige) and I will say, it’s phenomenal! All the extras that you get with the SX are awesome. The layout and space in the vehicle itself are super practical and comfortable. I spent months researching vehicles and test drove many of the competitors and the Telly won outright for me. I would try to negotiate with the dealer and see what they can do for you. I financed some of the car and got the $1500 Kia rebate. Also, some dealerships offer $1000 conquest rebate. You should ask if yours does... good luck! Gravity grey SX is siiiick.

BTW, I agree that the KIA emblems are not cool. I purchased the stick over emblems from this site that make it look like a Lexus.

This response was hilarious! Thanks for your input.

They want to add some type of wrap for the car, a type of lowjack feature, and a special brake light in the rear of the car. No, they will not sell me the car without the added crap. They did offer me the $1500 incentive....but still!

Just an FYI...you don't have to wait 6 months to pay it off. They can't come and collect the rebate for financing after you have signed the paperwork. The dealer probably told you that because if you pay it of before 3 months, then kia finance won't pay the dealer. So the dealer loses out, not you.

2nd, the Telluride is made here in Georgia, so parts availability with no South Korea shouldn't be a problem but it would be a problem for me with the Stinger.

Paying over msrp is stupid and insane. I would tell them that they will need to remove the options and give it to you at msrp or you will simply go get the mdx. If they refuse. Call kia support, complain until you get up the ladder. Make sure they understand what happened and why you are walking away. And walk away. Go get an MDX.

Just make sure kia knows how the dealer treated you. It is going to be up to us, the buyer, to make sure bad dealers get kia's attention.

I agree with you - having a hard time justifying the price - I ordered an SX Prestige in early May at MSRP minus $2500 in incentives - that would put it at about $45,000 before tax and fees. I'd like it to be less, but I'm willing to go for that. For comparison, before taxes and fees, I've been offered $41,200 for an Ascent Limited, and they're now taking about $8k off a fully loaded Atlas SEL Premium (bringing it down to about $43,000). Mazda CX-9 Signature at $40,000 or less. My friend recently got a base model 2019 Acura MDX (2WD) for around $37,000 (about 8k off list - pretty standard for Acura).

I am thinking about the Sport Hybrid MDX - but even with a discount of $8-9k, it'd be similar to the final price as the Telluride - and the Telluride's infotainment system is better than the MDX, I get Captain's Charis and real Nappa leather, ventilated seats, folding mirrors, etc. A fully loaded MDX with captains chairs stickers around $60k, but maybe could be had for about $50k (?) - still well above Telluride. If Acura had replaced current MDX infotainment with the version in the current RDX (1 screen), I would certainly work a deal on the MDX. Another alternative might be to lease an MDX (I'm sure an update will happen within 2 years as they transition RDX tech into MDX) after negotiating down 1st year depreciation on a new 2019 model - and wait out this Telluride craziness.

Still might do that if the Telluride quality doesn't live up to expectations or if the price gets too high. I think there is incredible value in all trims - but if price is a concern, then ordering a non-prestige SX, EX or an S should be a consideration. Just have to find a dealer willing to take your order at MSRP or less - and negotiate that up front.

The Palisade is another great option - but the Limited trim without discounts makes it much more than the Telluride! By end of year they might be willing to deal on Palisade. The Palisade SEL FWD with all options ticked is around $42,000 - that's a good value and foregoes the better leather, digital dash, ventilated front seats - among a few other minor options that the Limited adds for ~$4800 more. But then, you may as well go with a Telluride EX if there's no discounts on Palisade!

With your $1800 of dealer adds it becomes even worse for the Telluride in terms of value. I'd walk on that offer and try another dealer - or just go get that MDX. Since you are in California - it will be difficult - I think California is one of the last states to receive Tellurides - I thought Texas was bad. And, if you want AWD - it's even harder in a Sunbelt state. They are really pushing the FWDs here because they're more popular. Same with Palisade though.

That’s ridiculous. I actually agree with what Gwyn said. The fact that they won’t sell u the car unless you buy their add ons is crazy. I would call their bluff and tell them you won’t buy the vehicle unless they drop the extras. But I wouldn’t go buy the MDX.. I would just start making calls to other dealerships to hunt down another SX Telly. Buying a car is a huge decision. You spend so much time using it. If it’s the vehicle you know you want why would you settle for something else... Also the Telluride isn’t just any vehicle. Have you seen all the YouTube videos? It’s litterally crushing it in reviews. And I can speak from personally owning one now, it completely lives up to the hype. Every once in a while a product comes along where everything came together and its just the bomb. The Telly is that product... There’s a reason why everyone is so excited about them. If things fall through tomm, I recommend calling all the dealers within 2 hrs of where you live and ask if they have any SX Telly’s coming in their inventory in the near future, and if they do, go in and put a deposit on one ASAP. Hope this helps.

No you are not crazy, By the way I am a happy owner of an EX in white with light gray leather interior. Living in Florida with dogs, the 3 zones of a/c and ventilated seats and 18" wheels made sense. I came out of Toyota highlander sport. I also have other a 911, harley and Goldwing. when you start with the numbers you are talking aboutyou have to remember the new highlander will be out in Dec. and a limited in 2019 was 42,400.00. My Dealer fee was 0 and I usually get 10% off, unbelivably resale value best in class reliability etc. I am a baby boomer with a long memory and an auto enthusiast. My EX was37ish plus 1045 shipping, plus 1200 factory options total cost 39380.00. minus 2k incentives from manufacturer. ps-MDX is less reliable than the pilot.

I can speak to your situation.
I've had my SXP for 5 weeks.
I had a 2016 MDX SH-AWD Tech. package with 33,000 miles that I had for 3 years that I sold to a friend when I bought the Telluride.
Don't get me wrong...the MDX is a very nice automobile.
But I can confidently and honestly tell you that the Kia Telluride is as fine an automobile as the MDX, if not better. The Telluride is quietier, smoother, and more comfortable than the MDX.
The Telluride is easier to get in and out of than the MDX and seems to sit higher than the MDX.
I think one way to judge ones level of satisfaction is to ask the question..."Would you buy your car again after driving it for 5 weeks ?"
In my case the answer is , without a doubt or hesitation, YES.
Hope this helps with your decision.

Great to know, that's why I'm holding out on those other offers! Hopefully will have one in 1-2 months....

This helps a lot. I've been going crazy trying to figure out whether to go the MDX route or not. I also realize buying a car at MSRP is ridiculous but the great reviews from "auto experts" and consumers make me feel the that the Telluride is the way to go all the way.

I was between a new MDX - TECH for wifey.

She really wanted the captains chairs and I would have had to go up to the advance. The captains chairs in the MDX are great expect they have a console so you cant walk between making it much hard to get to the 3rd row. We ordered a White SX due in sometime in August. The other thing to keep in mind is Acura service can get a bit pricey. I have a TLX as my daily driver and I had to do a 50K Tranny flush and oil change it was $600

I ordered one, waited 4 months to get it in, they jacked the price so I reordered at a different dealer. I don't need the vehicle right away so waiting is no problem for me.

Seriously tho - find a better dealer. I talked to at least 5 in the northern Chicago area, and ended up going with one practically on the Wisconsin border (Classic Kia in Waukegan) b/c they didn't have any of the dealer add-on garbage.

Did you by change visit/talk to the McGrath dealer in Palatine? What a joke they were.
