If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... How to Lock My Telluride with Engine Running and Dogs in the Car

Wow, I’m jealous as I can’t get my 22 SX Prestige to work doing it your way. Would you be so kind as to answer these questions and then give us the details of exactly what you have for a car and the timing and distance from the drivers door you are when it works for you?
Do you have push button locks on the front doors?
Are they shut off in the brain of the car?
When it locks have you checked that all the doors are really locked?
Do have to be outside of key fob working distance?
Thanks in advance, another dog lover!

I didn’t try the open window/lock from door panel/race to remove arm; I was afraid of getting locked out or injuring myself.
Can’t get locked out if you have possession of the key inside the fob. Can also use the app to unlock as you have been doing.

The window is not supposed to close on your arm. If it senses any obstructions it is supposed to retract open again. Test it out with a rolled up jacket or sweater if you want to check. Also, there is a lot time after pulling the window switch up to auto close from the fully open position.

Not really sure what you what info you are trying to figure out from your questions. All Telluride trim levels have the same locking mechanisms.

If you use the Kia Access app to lock the car while the engine is running, and you are out of the car, has nothing to do with where the fob is. The only scenario where the fob matters is if you start the car remotely from the app, the car will shut off if the fob is not nearby after you open the door. It is possible for somebody to drive off with your car if you started the engine with the push to start button and the fob is not in the car.

When locking remotely with the app all doors lock and you have to use the app to unlock, or the mechanical key on the door handle. The amount of time it takes sending the lock command from the app to the car will depend on the cell reception and how reliable the Kia servers behave that particular day. There have been times when the app servers are down for several days.

I have an aftermarket Viper remote start installed on my 2021 SX-P. I know it’s overkill but the fob has up to a mile range (realistically, I’ve never found the right conditions to work that far away but it does start my car when parked in the parking garage at my job where cell service isn’t always reliable for the auto app). I can also use the aftermarket fob to lock my car while it’s running without any time limits with or without the factory fob inside. The aftermarket system also has longer default times (not just the 10 min Kia allows) for those freezing cold mornings. It doesn’t interfere with my factory remote start and I can still use my Kia fob and/or Uvo.

I originally got the system installed because of my disgust with monthly payments - I did not plan to renew my Uvo subscription after the free trial. So it was a solution for my need for remote start capabilities that surpassed the mediocre range of the factory fob.

I used a very experienced, reputable local company for installation that backs their work. It’s not a job I’d trust to just anyone. I bought my car Dec 15, 2020 and remote start was installed Dec 23, 2020 and it’s worked flawlessly.

Could you share the part number of the product you purchased and what cost installed
Thanks

I believe it was Viper D9857V, which came with a 2-way remote fob (2-way communication allows you to know if your vehicle received and processed the command or not) and a 1-way remote fob. The install was done back in Dec 2020, I’ll look to see if I still have the receipt (I usually toss them once the warranty is up). I want to say the remote-start, wiring harness and install were around $350ish but it could’ve been more. I had them install the remote-start, a dash cam window and tail-light tent all at the same time for around $1000. I’ll update this post if I find an itemized receipt.

This was a previous discussion and the best solution I saw was leave your keys in the car and lock it with the extra fob in your pocket. Downside, of course, is having to carry both fobs out of the house with you, but it does solve the issue.
This does not work with the 2022 Telluride. I own one and I’ve tried it. Unfortunately, it does not work.

I am late to this discussion, but I just got a new puppy and this issue is suddenly important. I have parked in a shady area and left it running and unlocked and dash-shopped. It worked, and while I know nobody can drive the car away while I have the fob, they can still get into my car. So today I tried all of the suggestions. The two key fob method didn’t work; the car wouldn’t lock. I didn’t try the open window/lock from door panel/race to remove arm; I was afraid of getting locked out or injuring myself. But what did work was the Kia Access App. Key fob was was outside of the car and the app locked it while the engine and a/c ran. The key fob would not unlock it, though; I had to use the app to unlock it, too. I’m thankful for this solution.
Someone can drive your car away while you have the fob. They just can’t restart it if they turn it off, but it drives normally without the key inside.

If you have the my access on your phone you can lock and unlock your car with your cell phone, not the most convenient but it works

I've been able to find a work around using 1 fob and no app. You also have to have the auto unlock setting enabled. Not sure if this was enabled by default or not. This setting is different than the unlock when approaching. The one I'm talking about unlocks the vehicle when you reach for/ touch the handle.

I have a 2023 telluride. With the car running roll down the driver's widow, step out and take fob with you and close the door. Reach through window and hit lock button. Once doors are locked roll the window up and pull your arm out of the way. With the car running the buttons on the fob do nothing. The vehicle will beep for several seconds telling you there's no fob in the vehicle. Once you get back to your car to get in you need to reach for the handle with the fob on your person and it should unlock. I would say test this without rolling your window closed so you don't have to resort to the mechanical key to unlock the vehicle. Just in case you don't have this setting enabled or possible with your vehicle year. I believe you can also open the rear hatch with this vehicle locking method. Just have the fob on your person and press the button on the hatch. Pretty sure using the button on the fob will do nothing.

To the previous comment the car will technically run indefinitely without the fob present once it's on. Until the vehicle gets turned off that is. It will then require the fob present again to turn back on.

You can not lock the car period with a set of keys / remote in the car even with the second remote. Will not lock as it knows there isn't anyone in the car and the keys are in it. I've tried it several times

Hello, we have two Black Labs and like to take them with us in our Telluride. The challenge I have is there are times I want to park the car at store, run inside while locking the car with the engine and AC running. All the vehicle does is beep at me. Is there a way to override this feature? Thank you.
I just bought and wondering the same
