If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... EX has a $1898 protection package added
SX has a $2598 protection package added
For orders no added packages. But you would think if someone is buying a Telluride they would want to protect it!!

So you just proved my original point....your prices listed in here are not the actual price!! Typical bait and switch salesman!!

Not really. I might think someone would want the OPTION to protect it with your package or more likely one that's priced better. Either way Jurassic3k is right. This is typical bait and switch.

If you are spending that much your going to want to protect it! And these are selling before they get here!
I think most people...myself included who "spend" this kind of money on a vehicle should have the choice of what type of protection they want to further spend their hard earned money on. Especially the educated consumers in here who likely can find the exact and/or better quality add-ons for half the price themselves instead of relying on a salesman/dealer to tell them what they need and force them to buy it only to pad their pockets with just a bit more profit. You got caught trying to bait and switch....whoops forgot this > !!!!!!

Why I hate buying cars. Im supposed to pick one up tomorrow for my wife. Already have a "guaranteed gentleman's agreement" w the dealership. Ive warned the Mrs. that there's probably a 50/50 chance I come home w out a car, because I'm not playing the bait and switch game. Finges crossed.

His statement, "And these are selling before they get here!" says it all. Because it's a hot item let's take advantage of people and take them for all we can because if they don't bite....someone else will. Wonder what other "protection" items they add on when you get to the dealership....vin etching, pin stripes, nitrogen, flashing third brake light? Actually I'm pretty sure they add that last one.

I was told $700 to tint the windows by one dealership. I told them I could take it somewhere on my own and pay $130 for limo tint, but their tint was "mandatory" at that dealership. They could shave off a little of the 3k MSRP markup, but the tint (which hadn't been applied yet) was non-negotiable.

I get it.....supply and demand. Im even ok if a dealership asks more over MSRP than Im willing to pay. All I ask out of a dealership is to be straight up from the get-go. I'll tell you what I'm willing to pay, and you tell me what the final out-the-door price is going to be. That way nobody's time is wasted. I wasted 2 hours of my time and a salesman's time last week simply because he didn't take me at my word from the very beginning that I wasn't paying $1 over my stated budget (which he promised he could do on the phone, during the test drive, and up until he had to "finalize" it w his manager).

I know there are dealerships that do this well...why there's a good dealer list here. Unfortunately, I've dealt w several others before I found that list.

It's partially us as consumers too...

They wouldn't be adding $16K markups and shady add ons if people would just stop paying for them. We have become somewhat of an instant gratification generation, unfortunately. DVRs, Hey Google...Alexa....Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc....We don't expect to wait for anything.

Just look at how many times people will ask to have their same VIN checked over and over like it's going to make it arrive sooner.

People who have the money to get what they want now and don't care about the price, or those who don't know any better, are standing in line for the dealer to give them what they want right here right now. Until that "gravy train" stops....This will be the new "business as usual" in popular vehicles.

Right, this dealer is undeniably shady and seems intent on defending his disgusting behavior. BUT they wouldn't exist if idiots out there had a single ounce of self control. Most people paying these markups I'd bet cant afford to in reality. Rich people don't stay rich by throwing money in a hole all day.

When chip shortage ends in the fall, the dealers that did these things will sink. I will never shop certain dealers ever again from this pandemic response some have given and I'm a frequent car buyer. I bet there are alot more like me out there that have been offended by the pathetic excuses and cash grabs at these places.

They will just be replaced by direct sales, its happening more and more and people are fed up with dealer bullshit. Look for large service centers without any salesmen in the future.
