• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Motor Oil

Just changed my oil this weekend. Used 6.25qts of Mobile One 5w30. For you/us, do it yourselfers, get you a 27mm socket for the canister. The 3.8 does not use a screw on filter. Dont use plyers or a cresent wrench, youll wear out the nut on the canister. And yes, there is a small panel that has 7, 10mm bolts to remove. This will give you full access to the filter and drain plug. I pulled mine up a couple feet on my race ramps an this gave me plenty of room. No need to jack it up. Easy DIY.

I changed my oil myself at 4500 miles with mobile 1 (5w30) extended performance and OEM filter. It meets the requirements. You will have to remove the panel underneath 7 - 10mm bolts no big deal. It took about 6 quarts.

Question, the manual says 7 quarts, My new EX has 400 miles on it, checked dip stick and it looks a quart light !!!

There may have been some left in the motor? I used 6 quarts to bring it up to top line on the dip stick. My vehicle also was a little on the low side maybe 2/3 of a quart low... on the lower line of the dip stick when I changed it......

I did my first change yesterday at 5,000 miles. Had to do it in a pinch before a road trip and couldn't locate Pennzoil Ultra Platinum so went with their "standard" Platinum. Might only run these first two oil changes for 5k each, but so far the motor is very quiet and running well.

I think that if you use what's recommended per the spec sheet....you should be good.

The owners manual states to use 5w30 with an ACEA A5 or above rating. It also states that if ACEA A5 oil is not available in your country you are able to use API service SL, IL SAC, GF-3, or ACEA A3.

For those who want the most thorough information available regarding oil, check out Bob is the oil guy. You will find more misinformation, than you will good information, on a car forum like this.

Does anyone know of a app, or something online where a person could log their routine maintenance like oil changes, with ability to save copies of receipts and everything?

Also... is there anything built right into car/dash that warns or tells you how many more miles until you need a oil change? My Chevy Cruze had such a feature.

I see UVO has a counter for oil changes, but I really don't want to subscribe to UVO after my free period is up.

I'm seriously considering buying the Kirkland synthetic oil, I've seen good reviews and it's cheap enough that I won't mind changing it long before a quality synthetic would be anywhere near used up. ( I plan on changing every 5000 miles after my initial oil change at about 2500 miles)

Fuelly can track all your fill-ups and maintenance. Your service interval is set at 7,500 miles from the factory for reference. You can reset that at your next service and then the vehicle will remember the new interval.

I use car fax app which allows decent tracking. Wouldn't give full endorsement though because it won't allow me to fully customize maintenance schedules and is bent out of shape because of antiques with short VIN. Apparently I am WAY behind rotating the tires on my motorcycle ;)

Apparently fuelly is Apple iPhone only and aCar is Android. Can't attest to them. I assume any of 3 would do your basics and more modern vehicles. I'm skiddish about most of my data being battered around by tech companies though, particularly my vehicle and everyday whereabouts

I use the free Carfax account. Anything done at most shops is automatically added. You can set maintenance intervals to basics of 3,000 5,000 7,500 etc or 3 months 6 months etc. You can go into the history to add receipts and notes or add any do it your self services. You can even set driving conditions as normal or severe for upcoming recommended services.

Is it perfect? No but it is free and they are already getting the records from most auto shops. And since it is web based, it doesn't matter what phone I have.

amsoil signature series synthetic oil is the best out there meets all requirements and then some and longest life out there

if kia uses a semi synthetic then i'll use the same...i want the piston rings to seat/seal properly...i plan to do all my own oil changes...my subaru chews up a quart of 0w-20 full synthetic every 1k-1600 miles so i have no problem running semi synthetic if i don't run into the same issues
