• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Oil Change

Most KIA dealerships use a "blend" rather than full synthetic and do not have another "option"......I have 2k on mine and am taking it in after Christmas for an oil change.....I am taking in my own Mobil 1 5-20 and will always do that going forward! My service manger quietly ( behind the scene) recommends that and does that for his own KIA!
Ah okay but you bought that one out of pocket instead of free oil change in the dealership sir right?🙂

Holy crap!! Thanks for the info.....If my dealer does that ....well, NO , they are not going to do that!

No free oil changes here....so yeah, "out of pocket" and I corrected the viscosity to "5w-30"

Ah okay, just wondering how we are sure that if ever we provide full synthetic oil for them to put in our car is that the one they are filling in, 😄 does anyone experienced that, they put conventional oil instead of synthetic

Canada manual says every 6k km....
Can confirm. I was just leafing through all the paperwork tonight and came across that little nugget of information, 6k km/6mo seems like a very, very short interval. Kia is justifying this by saying that Canada is considered "severe weather" climate. I would call BS, but the Tacoma I just traded was due to be serviced every 8k KM, so I guess this must be a thing that most manufacturers are doing.

Does this 'severe weather' rating affect any American vehicles? What about Alaska or states that are close to the Northern border?

That really annoys me, but I'll stick to the schedule. No way am I going to give them a chance to weasel out of a warranty claim.

P.S. 6,000km!!!

Need help , I had a oil change done , I noticed they cut a whole on the skid plate .thAt skid plate must be remove to do a oil change..

I know this is old but I forgot to ask... anyone able to take a picture of said skid plate? Alot of us could be missing that plate or have a hole as well and would never know the difference. I know I never looked prior to my oil change at the dealership. :(

Doesn't that cover have to be removed to change the oil filter anyway? I've changed the oil in my wife's Telly twice so far. Had to remove the cover. (sorry if someone else already posted this)

Good for you for checking.
I hate it when I have to rely on others. Especially dealership service departments. I always get the 11am call from the service writer suggesting the $200 "brake service". You know the one where they use an air hose to blow off the brake dust!

How many miles before your first oil change.
I did my first at 3000 because I wanted to put in mobil 1 ,now I will do it every 6000 and rotate the tires . That just me I have been doing it that way for 50 years. Can't break the habit

I agree, did mine at 1,500 miles and put mobil 1 in mine. I ripped open the oil filter and did see small metal particles in the filter. Nothing to big that would raise concerns. Will do future oil changes at 5,000 miles.
