Here is a chart that compares the price of the Sorento (V6 - AWD) vs Telluride (V6 - AWD) and also the price in the US vs Canada.

For the Telluride, the Canadian price is not yet available. I will update chart as soon as the Canadian pricing of the Telluride is available.

As you can see below, the price of the Sorento vs the Telluride is between $1000 to $2000 cheaper for the Sorento for the same trim level. But I am pretty sure that you can get a bigger discount for the Sorento than the Telluride. But I still think that you get more bang for your buck for the Telluride.

Because of our crappy Canadian dollar (1 US$ = 1.33 CDN$) a Sorento is actually cheaper in Canada if you convert the US price in Canadian dollar (15% cheaper).

Note: For the different trim levels, I have not done a full comparison of all options for each trim levels between the US and Canada.

Here is an updated chart that includes the destination charges for Canada ($1785 CDN) and the US ($1045 USD). I have also included the Kelley Blue Book invoice price for the US Telluride.

With these updates, the % of the price difference for the Sorento between the US and Canada, is now between 17% and 20% cheaper in Canada (taking a 1.33 exchange rate). This essentially means that if an american came to Canada and purchase a Kia Sorento in USD$, they would pay between 17% and 20% cheaper here in Canada. Of course I did not take into account the sale taxes and duty charges.

I just talked to a sales rep. in Canada (Laval, Quebec) and he told me that the Telluride will only be available here in Canada in May or June 2019. As for the price in Canada, it will only be available around those dates.

Canadian pricing has now been released: 2020 Kia Telluride: Pricing Announced

Here is an updated chart that I did that compares the Canadian pricing vs the US pricing for the same trim levels (In this chart I take into consideration that 1 US$ = 1.34 CDN$).

As you can see, a Canadian Telluride is actually cheaper here in Canada than in the US when taking into consideration the exchange rate. This essentially means that if an American came here is Canada to buy a Telluride an paid in US$, the price different would be about %13 cheaper (of course I did not include the custom/duty charges to bring back the Telluride to the USA).

SXL looks like a decent buy but it's gonna have a cut throat competition justifying that price tag. A 50k price would've just killed everything else.

Any US citizen that lives near Canadian border looked into buying a Canadian Telluride? The Canadian trim levels are different than in US market. They are all AWD and include terrain modes for sand and mud. Wondered if it was even possible to buy a Canadian model?

Any update here?
I am from US and am here in canada for work for one year. I have to purchase a car here and am considering telluride SX. It’s a little cheaper but there are three differences,
1.) no captain seats
2.) no black rims
3.) warranty is 5 year vs 10 year in US
Of course 3rd one is major but besides all this does anyone know whether it’s harder to sell/trade a Canadian vehicle in US?

The SXL has 2nd row captain seats , press your dealer for the black wheels a good dealer will get aftermarket wheels for you ( check discount tireusa they have some great black wheels that you could buy down there and bring them up .........warranty,thats a big reason the cars are cheaper here , same as the Stinger

Well I don’t think the dealer will get me any discount on anything else. They are selling me car on msrp plus hst no other charges or fee, which all other dealers are saying is a very good deal. This SX is readily available and SXL will take a long time. I need a car ASAP. For the price I am fine if I don’t get the black rims, captain chairs and additional 5 year warranty.
My main concern is whether Canadian cars actually don’t sell well in the US market.

Ask KIA USA what the issues are with getting a US warranty when you move back , the cars are the same and its easy to convert them to Miles vs Km ..................good luck

Called them. They said I will get to keep my Canadian warranty of 5 year when I take the car to US with me.
I am told by a couple of dealerships (Audi) in south that there is a general consensus there that because of weather conditions up north, Canadian cars don’t have a good rapport down there and buyers don’t want them.
