In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Remote start

I talked to my dealer back and forth yesterday and today, they really did their due diligence. They talked with their Kia rep, talked with other dealers, talked with UVO, talked with their aftermarket partner.

Here's the jist of the conversation:
1. He's had several complaints from Kia owners in general that UVO is unreliable.
2. They're making improvements to the UVO app and it may continue to get better. (I agree with this, it's better than it was a year ago, but still far from reliable).
3. He thinks the $22.50 a month is ridiculous too but has not found any internal Kia program to cover the cost for mad current or future owners.
4. There is NO OEM factory remote fob or kit in NA. Anybody selling you one is full of it.
5. There are a few aftermarket kits for this vehicle and the company his dealer partners with is $450 installed with an extended range key fob button. They have been using them for a decade and the amount of returns to their dealer is minimal.

I lease and have about 2 years left. So I can either:
1. Hack the CAN like I did on my last GM car to issue the remote start commands (hardest option and I'm feeling lazy)
2. Do it myself for ~$140 and risk my dealer warranty (which I am unwilling to do right now with the kits being so young for this car).
3. Dish out $450 for an aftermarket kit fully installed and completely forgo the app.
4. Get the aftermarket install AND the aftermarket app for $650 + $6 a month.
5. Just subscribe to UVO for two years for $500...

I'm leaning this way: I have two months until UVO starts charging me. IF UVO becomes mostly reliable, I will pay for it and we'll see what I do on the next one because I am definitely going to get another Telluride.
You forgot the save my money and just start the car normally option.

I personally don’t get the appeal of remote start. Yes, it is nice at times, but I see people throwing a lot of money at remote starting here and I struggle to see the value at the prices being paid. I can deal with a hot or cold car for a few minutes.

Remote start is handy for warming it up or cooling it down.....that said, I will NOT be paying a horrendous monthly fee to do that. Of the 30 new cars I have owned in the past 52 years, the last 6 have had that capability at NO cost. I will simply go back to what I always used to do....go out to the car and start it OR tolerate the cold or heat for a few moments while heat/AC comes up to speed. UVO is a ripoff......love the car!!

I have read on the Kia web site thst the the Telluride comes with remote start as standard as long as you have the UVO app and subscription. When I asked the Kia dealer they said it does not have remote start. Does anyone know what the answer is?
I just recently bought a KIA Telluride.. I find that answer they give as deceiving and I am disappointed in KIA. They do NOT tell you that eventually you will have to pay a monthly fee for the app service. I have had continual problems with the app. When I said I wanted a car starter, I wanted just that - to start my car - quickly.. Now, I have to log on, wait for it to update, hold my breath to see if it will work. I am now paying extra to have a 'regular' car starter remote installed.

I'm being told I have to have a key fob that remote starts the car. Not sure I'm confident in this answer.

The only remote start is using the UVO app on your smart phone; there is NO OEM fob remote start for the US - unless you install an aftermarket device that then allows for using the key fob.

As suggested in an earlier post:
Everyone upset about this outrageous cost (especially when Palisade and overseas Tellurides get key fob remote start) should email their complaint to:

Suggest making a UVO package with only remote start (with heated accessories activation) for not more than $50/year.

I purchased my SXP in December. I use the UVO app to remote start my ride. I agree with many that the app is slow. I also agree that after my 1 yr. complimentary subscription ends, I highly doubt I will be paying the possible $200+ to keep that service. My dealer installed a 3rd party remote start kit by Pursuit - Model PRO9051Z . It was added to my total purchase so it had no extra cost to me. The only downside to this aftermarket remote start kit is that once I open the door, the car shuts off. I wish I could get around that but I've read that this has happened to others with different model Kia's. Anyone else have the same experiences?

Sounds like the remote they installed either don't have the "take-over" feature, or they didn't program it.

Viper, Compustar, and other brands have these features that can be programmed.

I'm considering either Drone Mobile or Viper Smart Start as an alternative to UVO once my free subscription ends.

I'm curious at to what this entails.

The other link took me to a "google shopping page"

I'm very tempted to burn $120 on this and see if it works, anyone else???
I'm 50/50 on whether or not the product is legit.🤷‍♂️
I found this fob and it's only $67: https://www.diplomacykey.com/home/left-sidebar/product/5e03938dc90bfe0b808e7ea5

It is identical to the stock fob with the remote start button located on the side, for a total of 5 buttons. It says it is for a KIA Seltos, but the regions listed that it will work in are North America, Canada, and South Korea.

Yeah it's a bummer for me. Especially since the dealer I purchased my T-Ride from is close to 2 hrs away. So I am already tired of taking the ride to them for service. I know I can go to any Kia dealer closer, but again this was included with my purchase. Is there a way I can program it myself? I went to the website of the remote start maker but no where do they mention "take-over" capabilities.
It's like a gift and a curse...I'm glad I got it and 8 have an option after my subscription ends. But it's soooo wack to get to my ride and it cuts off when I open the door. I'm afraid that if I let them tinker with it more, something else will have an issue. LOL.
For me, this was my ride that I wasn't gonna do chit to it....I wanted everything in it from the jump (that's Jersey talk, don't mind me) 😁

I was told by my dealer that it was about $5.00 - $6.00 a month. I did add the remote start to my key fob but still waiting on the part to come in. They have to add something to the vehicle.

I was told remote start could not be added to my fob. I do not like Yvonne app!

Oh well played there Lucas, well played. Loved the Telluride dig 💪
You have to have fun with it. We hear frustrated owners on the daily.

@Audioi How can you do it for free? The dealership told me they had to order a part for it and would let me know once it came in. Once it is installed its supposed to be a button combination on the key fob but it has to be programmed.

Did you ever get the key fob and part for your Telluride programed and working?? If so can you share factory part numbers?

Does it mean we can expect it coming with 2021 Telluride?

Like others have said, I wish they had this as an option on the key fob. Alternatively, I wish they had a one time fee for full use of the app. I would have done either. As crazy as it sounds, I'd rather plop a chunk of change down upfront rather than pay a per month subscription fee.

I'm w/ you here, tired of subscriptions. I have an app on my Porsche Cayenne e-Hybrid that I've used maybe twice. You could adjust interior temp, charging time, and some other things. Novelty wore off quick on using the app. They charge $119/year for base services on it. So was like... eh not worth it. Figure the same will happen w/ the Telluride once we get it. The remote start is stupid via app only, but who knows by the time mine comes they may have it on the fob.
